{[The Forgotten Farm]}

Far from the rest of the valley's inhabitant's nearly forgotten by time --and too close to the protective man made barrier-- in the thick growth of forestry and great, fallen monstrosities is Bishop's Farm.

The first thing you notice is the lack of anything resembling a farm. Short, thin trees and bushes grow all over, something that may have been a fence post. An old well and the stony foundation of buildings covered in charcoal rubble and old timbers, supports and sheets of metal. It was obvious the monsters of the forests and caves had hit this farm hard before the town's people had put up the barrier.

The only thing that still seemed to be alive on the large plot of destroyed land was the large, handsome peach tree and a few herbs and flowers worth selling.

{[House Details]}

Bishop's Camp
A sturdy lean-to constructed of scorched metal sheets, a few charred timbers and a large piece of canvas now sat atop the foundation of the once handsome home. The materials had all been organized into what could be recycled and what could be sold or tossed for scraps. A small fire crackled near the shelter where clothes were drying or maybe a stew or piece of meat was cooking. A primitive and improvised shovel and handsome rifle lean against the shelter, nearby a fridge lay down like a trunk: storing the inhabitant's valuables.

Beside the 'camp' was the beginnings of a well on the mend, a deep hole that had been cleared of debris and all the filth paled out. Around it a sheet of steel forced into the ground in a circular shape, canvas covered it with a rock at each corner to prevent contamination.

Collapsed and the only thing resembling a building. Much of the steel sheeting has fallen off and the silo is almost entirely collapsed.

Bishop Arrives
Winter, 5th
1AM

Clip clop. Clip clop. Clip clop. "Rrh-hh-hh-hh!"" The large horse whinnied as the reins were tugged by his master's strong hands. Weeks, traveling, fighting off small goblins twice before he'd made it to the valley and encountering few people as he made his way to the farmland he'd heard of.

A long journey and Bishop was finally here. He rode his horse up the gentle slope, past the tilted mailbox and beneath the wooden arch who's label had long faded. Through thick weeds and over debris, some of which -His knight's training and combat experience told him--where crude weapons and armors at one time. His steed seemed uncertain but Bishop lead him on, down past a cluster of moss covered, broken down crates. A small burnt out building and then a larger one, with the remnants of a silo and fencing around it. That must be the barn. Eventually finding where the house used to stand. Rubble, debris and just broken down mess atop a sturdy stone foundation. He dismounted and tied his horse to a broken tree.

"This'll do. This'll do." he told himself. The foundation for a good farm was there, it had potential. Obviously it had once been successful and it could be again. It was late, he would build a fire and start work in the morning.

Working
Winter, 5th
6AM-11AM

Rising early only a few hours after getting to sleep Thomas started his work. He started by finding a post that was still strong enough to not give. With a sheet of metal bent around a thin pole - He'd improvised a crude shovel-- he dug a two foot hole for a hitching post. Tying a length of rope that was at about eight feet to the post. He cleared the ground of te icy shell and would tie his horse here to graze on the frozen shoots he could find. It didn't take much longer than an hour to accomplish this. He discarded his guns, his saddled bags and all his extra gear into his tiny shelter and covered his valuables with his sleeping furs. "Well, that's done let's see what I can get done today.." He would start with where the house once stood. So off with the cape, his sword's scabbard was replaced with a sturdy hatchet as he looted the remains of the burnt out home. He stacked usable timbers on the corner of the stone foundation, the ones he could not use, on the ground near by. He would pull all the nails and tacks from the wood he found, depositing them in his cooking pot for now. After some time of digging, separating usable materials from non usable he finally made a precious find. And old refrigerator!"Oh wow. This is perfect." he chimed. The small fridge was of a tough steel finish, it was unlikely it worked to cool things, but it was storage. He cleaned it out, finding nothing edible he tossed all the rotted foodstuffs into a heap away from his camp and saved all the containers. The nails finding themselves a new home in a foggy glass jar. He'd finally cleared the foundation and surrounding area of the home and organized everything. Scrap metal was in a pile, usable metal another. Like the wood. The fridge being his only real find.

He cleaned his pot and melted some clean snow in it for drinking, then more into which he added a handful of chucked, seasoned and dried meat. Setting it to a simmer and digging up some less than glamorous potatoes from the trashed fields he chopped and added them too for a rather primitive stew as the result. Feeding a potato to his horse he rested in his lean to, his wet clothing removed to dry near the fire as he changed into a rougher shirt and a dingy captain's coat. He'd sit, looking out at his land.

Scavenging
Winter, 5th
2PM

After lunch he'd rest for an hour, replaced his socks and boots before he went to work on improving the condition of his well as best he could. It wasn't safe to drink right now, he'd have to find a way to clean it. For now he placed some of his canvas over the opening, the moisture from the evaporation of the well's water would simply fall back down. A slow purification process but it was proven. He'd have to clean the canvas a few times a week.

Satisfied with his work he melted himself some snow, quenching his thirst and bottling up the rest in one of the old milk bottles he found and placed it in his bag. With his hatchet, a strong timber and some water he crossed the path and began to sift through what he figured might have been a tool shed. It might have been near or built directly onto the barn but at the moment he was unsure. He didn't have the money to rebuild this whole farm now. He'd have to work the land to make money for the barn. the point now though, he was looking to see if any tools had survived. The work was hard without the proper things he needed and the more money he could save be finding things, the better.

He of course, found more usable timbers, containers and even some sort of modular fencing.. perhaps for segregating inured or birthing animals. He could set that up later and put his horse in it at night. For now it was stacked against the fridge he was using to store his gear. So far, nothing exclusive to his needs. He'd keep searching until he ran out of daylight if he had to.
