Edwardian

This was a fifteen year period before the modern costume took hold. Hats and sleeves were large while skirts continued to thin and for the first time in history to rise. Although freedoms were being enlargef in women's dress, restrictions also grew. The corset became longer and tighter, bending the spine into an unnatural S-shaped position. Hobble skirts made a brief appearance that allowed for only small shuffling movements. This style did not last very long and by 1920 fashion said farewell to all of the restrictions of the past. MMC has many designs from this last brush with pre-modern fashion.

Please keep the posts in this thread relevant to Edwardian fashion.
