"Wh-what is this?" The Noodle's eyes flickered back and forth between her owner and the choice before them. She shook her wings nervously, feeling as if she'd rather be home than go through either. She tucked her tail between her legs and stared pitifully at the human.

"It's fine, it's fine..." Jymei, meanwhile, had adopted an attitude of nonchalance. Sure, neither of them had been to the shop for a good long while, and to come back to something like this before being able to get in the swing of things may seem daunting, but it didn't really bother her. "Come on, let's go."

With a push, Jymei moved Aeshaeta to the stairs of light. "You go up that way. I'll go down the dark." Aeshaeta watched miserably. "B-but!" she protested, "Do we have to split up?" "It gives us a better chance," Jymei retorted evenly, "Just think of it as a normal road, you'll be fine." And, without another word, the human began to follow the path to the darkness.

Aeshaeta, while not a fan of scary things, was hardly one to remain unhappy long if she could avoid it. Soon, she had a spring in her step and was humming softly to herself as she moved along the lit path.

Jymei- Bring the courageous one you take the dark path, leaving your fox to what you assume is safety. You are in a creepy hall that slowly descends into the earth like the stairs do in a quicker fashion. A long walk leads you an area where you can feel it's opened up. No light is there to guide you but cinnamon scents waft from the right. The left has the earthy smell of a newly dug grave.

#- Go right.
#- Go left.

Aeshaeta- The willful neglect toward what may await you changes nothing as you pluck your way down the staircase and cross the hall with ease. The light suddenly is gone here and you lost your sense of direction. However, you do remember there were three ways to go.

#- Go right.
#- Go left.
#- Go forward.
#- Stay here, whimper, and hope the light comes back.
#- Scream like a barbarian.

Jymei glanced hesitantly around. Sure, she tended to act brave, and sure she could see well in the dark, at least better than most humans, but...the smell of the earth seemed rotten somehow. It made her want to gag. "Next thing I know, those damn giant flying cockroaches will come flying at me through some crack..." she muttered to herself. They were, after all, the thing that disgusted her most.

Yet then a new scent lent itself to the mix. At first it was faint, then it grew and grew. Cinnamon! While not her favorite flavor, that being lemon or simply sugar, Jymei really did love the spice. And it certainly beat the alternative: the strengthening scent of rotting bodies and shallow graves. Without any hesitation, she followed the lovely smell as if it were a trail in a cartoon.

- - - - - -

Of course. It would just have to get dark when she was having fun. Why couldn't Halloween things be more...bright? More happy? She imagined a little stuffed bunny sewn up to look like a zombie in the most adorable method possible and smiled lightly to herself. Sure, stuffing was coming out at a couple seams, but she'd still want one.

"Three ways..." Aeshaeta muttered to herself in an attempt to avoid thinking of the more gruesome type of zombie. Yet she'd never been very good with decisions. She spun around a few times, deciding to go which ever way she faced, and realized too late she would not know which way that was. Now she was alone, lost, and in the dark. She huddled in on herself, whimpered slightly, and hoped desperately the light would return.

Jymei- You continue down the bright path, seeming almost in a trance-like state, only to snap out of it as your next choice comes upon you. To your left, that foul reek of gravesoil assaults your nose. Ahead, the light and cinnamon scent still beckons. To your left, there's a short corridor. And - though you missed it before - to your immediate right is a little alcove with a glowing yellow crystal on a shiny silver pedestal that is just begging to be taken! What do you do?

#- You love sparklies! Go try and take that crystal!
#- This is the second time that smell has come up. Maybe you should take the dark path.
#- Stick with what you know. Walk forwards and don't look back.
#- What if there's something down that little hallway? Let's go check it out!

Aesaheta- As you whimper, the light flickers back on--before suddenly winking out again! It does this several more times, and you could swear you hear the echos of some dark laughter. You try to keep your cool, though you may not be able to for very long. Is the laughter getting louder? Is someone coming?! Is someone breathing in your ear? Do you hear the evil laughter again?

The halls feel like they are closing in on you. Can you hear your own heart pounding? If you can, chances are someone else can, too. It feels like every moment, someone is getting closer! What do you do?!

#- Flee in a random direction, shrieking like a banshee! [Randomize 1-5]
#- Curl up in a tight ball and hope nobody - gulp - eats you.
#- Cautiously feel your way forwards. [Randomize 1-3]
#- Cry loudly and hope someone takes pity on your poor, defenseless soul.

Jymei followed the cinnamon scent happily and willingly: who, after all, could resist such a delicious scent in such an environment? And it hinted at food...that sounded lovely. Yet...from the corner of her eye, a brief flash drew her gaze. A crystal...and a shining pedestal...

Who could resist that either? It was not that she had a particular care for the worth, but she had always been one to point out and desire shiny things: jewelry, glass, a random coin, a thin sheet of metal, or even metal roofs on a bright day while on a drive. Something about the shimmering tone of a reflective item drew her in and hypnotized her. "S-shiny..." She muttered happily to herself. 'I'll just grab the shiny,' she reasoned, 'And continue...no problems...Shiny...' And she reached forward, grabbing the glowing crystal.

--- --- ---

'...It just had to be me.' Aeshaeta thought miserably. Not just did she have to deal with the sudden darkness, but the flickering light made it impossible for her eyes to adjust to either. And not just that...she was growing paranoid.

Knowing you were being paranoid, however, does not alleviate the feeling. She'd heard of people hearing voices, and that they were generally sent to some special place. Jymei had even, a few times, mentioned voices...yet Aeshaeta herself had never heard them. Evil laughter she could deal with: she lived around Jymei and Maeta. But, with this flickering light and...

What was that! A footstep! It was certainly a footstep! Yet it seemed strangely flat, not echoing even slightly in the hall. And another! But...that could not be. No...certainly...that was not true. 'No one's coming...no one's coming...no one's coming...' yet thinking the phrase over and over didn't help the evidence provided by her increasing sense of panic and paranoia. 'I came the lighted way to avoid this...' she thought miserably to herself, not daring to even mutter anything aloud. She could hardly hear her thoughts over her own thundering heartbeat. The blood rushed in her ears and seemed loud enough to be echoing off the walls...and maybe it was. Maybe that was that odd extra dimension of sound.

She whimpered for a moment. Yet remaining defenseless would only assure that the Something would eat her while she was down! She cried, yet uncurled. Noise! Something like that might scare it off! And then she could get enough of a head start to flee...

She jumped up and screeched as loudly and as high pitched as she could, and took off running at once.

Jymei- You are engulfed in a vortex as soon as you touch the crystal and sucked into an interdimensional space. You spin but are prefectly still and feel all sorts of other contradictions. You vaporize into being and land safely on your paws. Vines wrap some of the walls here and it is distinctivly chilly.
A crystal like the one you just touched is behind you and no way are you doing that again. You head forward and are faced with a choice. Ahead, to a dead end where something is trapped in the vines or to the right where the foliage gets thicker.

#- To the vines Oh oooh!
#- Let... us go right and as far from the freaky crystals as possible.

Aesaheta- You flee like you are on fire, screaming like a witch all the while. Soon enough you OQWHWDJKHJDS---
crash into someone.

#- Scream and run.. AGAIN.
#- Apologize to the thing.
#- Greet it.
#- Cry.
#- ATTACK.

"...Neh?" Jymei said as the odd sensation ceased. It had been fun. Not something she'd do again, yes, but fun. However she found herself somewhat disappointed: she'd only wanted to collect the shiny, but now the enticing cinnamon aroma was gone and not soon to be recovered. Now that there was not even the hint of it being an option, she already found herself growing hungry.

She took a moment to survey her new surroundings. She enjoyed the aesthetic the vines added, thinking they made for a softer feel to this part of the "basement." Yet...ahead...there was something logged in the vines. And...did it just squirm? She was unsure. The prospect of finding what may have been in the vines, and perhaps tormenting it depending on what it turned out to be, proved to be too tempting to pass up.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

"Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-!" Aeshaeta's scream was cut abruptly short as she ran into something. Someone. A new shriek ripped from her lungs, this one not contrived. However, running into the person had stopped her and she found herself unable to muster the will to regain her momentum.

"Sorry sorry sorry!" she repeated hastily, crying a bit. This was why she hated the complete dark: it was almost certain what she'd run into was horrible, scary, and irritable.

Jymei- A gift sits in your hand, despite the chances. A small set of beads. Perhaps maybe next time we shall remember to give you the chance prompt. However, free gifts shouldn't be looked in the mouth, and now you continue on. You have three choices in the dim light. To your left the path grows dark, straight ahead is another dead end, with more vines, and to your right the smell of must and grave dirt continues.

#- Take the left path.
#- Head towards the vines again. [ Randomize 1 - 12 ]
#- Take the right path.

User ImageAeshaeta- Despite the fact the zombie that appeared before you was...well, a zombie, his eyes seemed to be kind...in a creepy way. He smiles, in an attempt to relax your frayed nerves in the flickering light. With a swish of his tail that prompted you to follow him, he proceeded down a hallway, to leave you trailing in his wake.

#- Follow him.
#- Shriek and wail and crumple in a heap.

"Ooo! A free gift" Jymei said with a grin that was not entirely innocent. And, of course, the opportunity to grab something more presented itself and was too good to pass up. She headed toward the vines once more, pocketing the beads as she went.

--- --- ---

"A-Ah!" Aeshaeta was afraid, to be sure, yet to see the being in front of her, even if it was a zombie like this one was, was not nearly as frightening as being unsure of what it was. She breathed a sigh of relief, in fact. After all, the zombie was not that bad: he did not immediately attack her for her brains, and even seemed almost sociable. Besides, she lived with Maeta and Jymei, and he could hardly be much worse.

She chose to follow him. Not wishing to upset him was certainly a part of the reason, yet more important was the fact that he obviously knew where he was going and she didn't. And she'd rather not be plunged into darkness again.

User ImageAeshaeta- You choose to follow the zombie, following his tail that swishes in front of your nose as he leads you into the dim halls. Somehow, you have the strangest sensation you've been turned around, and a few long minutes later, your suspicion proves to be true as you're brought back into the basement, and the Zombie fox is fully exposed in the light. He sits down, the tip of his tail twitching slightly, as if he's pleased.

A blurr forms to the right, all fuzzy with darkness...and then...someone appears.

Jymei- As you reach into the vines, you manage to grab onto something just as a black haze surrounds you. Suddenly, you feel weightless, very much like when you had touched the crystal, but not so dizzyingly fast. INstead, it seems to deposit you down gently, leaving you grasping a tiny bowl fragment...and blinking.

As you recover, you notice your own fox, Aeshaeta, sitting with a...a...zombie? He seems to be smiling at you, and even offers a wink. It's plain to see that even with you both safe at the outskirts of the maze...he will not be leaving you.

...congrats, and welcome the zombie into your home?
