I don't want this to turn into like a religious debate of who's religion is right or wrong but anyway here is the subject matter.
During the 80's the catholic church became angry because Modonna wore a very "revealing" outfit on stage as she wlays does but for this preformance she wore rosarys (sorry if that's spelled wrong). Now I'm not up to code with this but I do know rosarys are used in religious pray I believe. it's a prodominent religious catholic thing.
So anyway what do you think.
Do you by wearing thing such as crucifixes and otehr religious symbols when your not the religion takes something away from the object?
ANd aslo what is your opinion on using fashion as an expression of things such as social commonataries or other views.

For a while, religious paraphernalia has been fashionable. Rosaries, crosses, and such no longer seem to indicate faith, which is both ironic and odd in my opinion.
I'm a Christian, so I wouldn't wear religious articles of another faith (though I might wear a Star of David because I'm pro-Israel). I don't generally wear crosses either though. I have one that I put on a velvet ribbon that I wear when a friend visits because that is our tradition (long story), and another tiny one on a gold chain that my grandmother gave me, but I always forget about wearing jewelry, even if it is religious.
But I think it's ironic when non-religious or even anti-religious people wear such things. On the one hand, it is labeling them, but on the other, it turns something sacred into something secular and demolishes the difference which is no good in my opinion.
The sad thing is when people don't realize what the object means. Those scarves that were popular for a while, for example, are really a political statement supporting the Palestinians, but the average hipster doesn't know this and blithely rocks the scarf.
I think it's rather callous to turn everything into commercialism.

Personally I thought it was a little retarded how everyone went to pieces about the Madonna thing. I mean she grew up in a Catholic church. But that aside, I feel like as long as you know what you're talking about, and aren't doing just because its popular, then great. But yeah the whole thing of doing something or wearing something because it's in is stupid. It's a bit like people who wear band T-shirts and they don't know anything about the band. I've seen people who can't name one song by said band but thought the shirt was cool.
