About the new luxury shop Dernier Cri. It changes the equation of vending a bit. So I have a question that I would like answered.
Its a major gold sink. People will probably be selling their '03-'04 items to buy these.

Will this raise the price of the classic DIs MCs or will it lower demand for them?
Your input please.

I did post in your other thread, but I might as well repeat myself here.

The big thing about old MCs is that *they will not be making any more of them*. If they do, Gaia lied, and not being able to trust Gaia will change the vending equation FAR more than anything else they could ever do. So for now, I'm going with trusting them that when they say MCs are available in that month and never again, they mean it.

So if people are selling off these items and the price lowers, I will consider this a sale and do my level best to take advantage of it. The early items are simple, useful on avatars, and have a cachet that a non-limited item will never have.

The store items can and will be reissued. And the price drops on everything that has been reissued.

So yes, I think this store has the potential to temporarily lower demand for older MCs. But they're simply too available and more than likely will be available again. Which means over time, they're just not that rare....all they'll say is you have gold, not that you have taste smile .

I'm not sure what will happen to the prices of MC's. Usually when there's less money in the gaia economy newer items go down in price and expensive items go up up up. With all the gold that's been rolling into the economy I've been waiting for a goldsink like this for over a year now... (I actually think gaia overcompensated on the idea with the extreme prices... but that's a whole other topic to discuss elsewhere).

Anyway, sure the shop says that the items are Limited Edition, but who knows if they might be available in RIG's later on. The shop is too new, we have no idea, so I think a lot of people are playing it safe and monitoring the situation before jumping in. That's what I usually do anyway. I don't have 6 mil to play around with, but if I had old MC's I definitely wouldn't trade them for these new items just yet. It's already established that MC's will never be mass released again, and the true value of these new shop items is still up in the air, so I would think that old MC's are still a better investment.

I'm with Saison...I think the prices are just too much out of reach for too many Gaians for it to be an effective gold sink.

I know the shop's been open for just over a week, but in my forays around the forums, I'm just not seeing too many people wearing these items, which usually means they're not being bought. I'm comparing this to when they came out with the Elegant sets - which were expensive, but which a whole lot more people could afford, so they did.

There seems to be a psychological barrier at 1 million gold - people will spend 750K, 900K, but the minute it hits that 1 million, they balk. I've watched a lot of items hover just below, then stop selling when it price moves over. And I think they failed to take this into account.

(There's another barrier at 100K.)

I am also thinking they misjudged the very high end market. Folks who have that kind of gold to throw around don't tend to throw it around - they're investors and hoarders and know the economics of what are essentially store items. They're NOT going to say "oooh, shiny!" and spend mindlessly because that's not how they got to that point.

For a gold sink, you need to get the "ooh, shiny!" people, and that means a lower price point.

So I'm still keeping an eye on these items, but I think they overestimated their market.

Very nice answers.
Whatever purposes the admin had for this its a learning experience for all sides. We'll see if they change it around a little next time items are released there.

Maybe next time it will have more reasonable prices so more people would buy. Maybe more poses. If the next prices are simular then maybe it wasn't intended as a gold sink but something else.
