(( This is a thread made to continue the action of Crosshaven labs ))

(( Just so we know where we are at ))

She felt the stabbing pain of guilt in her gut as her mentioned listening to people call him "it" or "thing" knowing full well that she had referred to him on such a manner for a long time and it had not been till this whole mess began that she had begun to acknowledge him as a human being. "I guess I have been as wicked as the rest of them" she said her gaze lowered in shame. The forgiveness she had felt before waned, it was one thing to doubt someone's virtue or lack of it but to deny the fact that it may posses humanity was a despicable act indeed. "I doubt it will come to that" she said in response to his talk of their freedoms, but she knew she only lied to make him feel better. Perhaps not lie but voice out her own hopes in an attempt to make them more tangibly realistic.

"Let me get you something to drink, it will help with the dehydration' she said as she stood and walked to the kitchen, head lowered arms crossed over her chest. It was as well light as the rest of the place with all sorts of electronic gadgets and she quickly busied herself with most of them.

The electricity that surrounds the room starts to flicker like badly timed christmas lights, as if the devices were malfunctioning for some reason. The tell-tale streams of red manifest almost violently as Elenca pours herself through the portal door, her line of vision already fixed upon the ancient as he sits in repose. Her gait is steady and sure as she approaches him, her blood red eyes roaming over his blanketed form with just the tiniest flicker of unease.

"Ancient..." Her voice is lightly accented, and the title rolls out of her mouth like something elegant and bold--yet suspicious at the same time. Her dark staff rests upon her hands as she clasps them behind her and varying amulets decorate the valley between her breasts. She has one pendant that shines as red as her eyes, the magic deep and virulent. Elenca seems every bit the battle mage she truely is, and her menacing appearance would give one pause should they decide to foolishly provoke her.

((I had a hell of a time posting...first I had no idea you moved the thread (and to think..I rolled a three in the labyrinth thread to even find you...) then I kept forgetting to ornate my posts as my character is known for...geez.))

He is about to ask for some sweet joice, when Elenca appears, and everything begins to flicker...He looks at her with appraising eyes. In his face and expression, there is a sense of timelessness and uncommon perspective. He is not afraid of her. He shows no apprehension, and is quiet.

He weaves his fingers together to rest on his chest. He wants to know her intentions. He wants to be able to gauge if she means to exploit him, or assist him. He is more likely to trust her because he can sense that she is of a more potent liniage, closer to the Ancients. But that also being the case, there is more at stake.

He waits, eyes on her.

Elenca stands silent. Her slim jawline works back and forth, red eyes traveling his body from head to toe. She seems for the first time uncertain, unsure of herself or the situation. She hides it well, glossing over her unease with a general look of superiority. She cocks her head to the side, her lips quirking into a half smile.

"So it seems that I have found you old one...." She chuckles a little, though the sound seems forced. "I have been sensing your presence ever since I have arrived in this "halfbreed haven". The only thing that was pure...potent, uncorrupted...." She pauses, strangly overcome for a moment. "Your mere presence is disrupting things...the balance...why have you come here? How did that child find you?"

"The balance. It is the impurities you speak of that changed the balance, though I wouldn't call it corruption. I sense that there are only remnants of my line alive now. To answer your question, I did not come to this place by choice. I was found where I slept in the earth, and have been held prisoner by their god machines until now."

He sits up slowly, as if the act of moving is still painful. "Come and sit with me for a spell. Tell me your story, little Elenca. Tell me where you have been and what songs you have sung." He speaks to her like she is a treasured adult child.

"Sit...with you?" She flounders for a moment, completely disarmed by the ancients request. He was nothing like her father described...nothing. She stands there inanely for a moment, unsure how to proceed. Finally with a slight frown marring her cold beauty, she gingerly approached the couch and sits delicately on the edge, almost perched as is she were to flee at any given moment. It is clear she is unused to intimate situations, and is considerably uncomfortable with how genuine he is behaving.

"Why do you look so unnerved? You are the first person I've met here that has recognized me.

I see, you've been fighting a war, haven't you? You've been carrying a burden. You hate them, don't you?

I understand why."

"Do you truely understand ancient one? They squander their gifts on mindless pursuits, thinking themselves "special" just because of some frivolous power. They are weak, thin blooded, hardly worth more than the muck that they tread upon." She spits these words out in seething anger, yet almost giving him a glimpse of the bitter sadness she has carried all these years. A sadness she has never given the proper reason for. She stops speaking, taking in a deep breath to calm herself. This was some sort of test wasn't it? Some sort of condition to prove she was his equal? Then she better get a hold on her emotions....

Elenca changes the subject swiftly, and delved into other matters.

"Why did you contest to being lead around by that halfbreed female? Why did you not destroy them for all that they have done to you? Surely back in the ancient days you would never allow such travesty to go unpunished?" She leans a little closer, her crimson eyes imploring as she struggled to understand the creature before her.

((oh my! Elenca is actually having a "civil conversation."(by her standards anyway) Better mark that down somewhere...lol))

He wishes he could heal that bitterness; as he sees it, it gives her a kind of strength, but keeps her from ever finding contentment, peace with herself.

"When I awoke, I was starved for energy, and weak, and they were pumping stinging waters into me that made me stiff and cold, and restrained my gifts. Were I not what I am, I would have died a hundred little deaths.

I don't excuse what they did, but I know the cause.
They were afraid of me. They knew not what they did.

Destroy them, Elenca? It would have been wasteful. My heartbeat is the natural cycle of birth, aging, and passing away--you know this. For me to destroy them would have been frivolous and self-serving. I revere life, Elenca, and I am very hesitant to take it away before its time."

((yeah, and I think it's the first time she's spoken to someone that honestly empathizes with her.))

Elenca stayed silent, biting back the flippant retort that was attempting to escape her lips and common sense. She knew what ever she said, she would sound like a child...she WAS a child to this being, a fact that seemed to mollify her anger just a bit.

She sat back on the couch, a little more relaxed, though she knew it would not be for long. That female was going to enter the room at any moment, and this...peace, would be shattered. Elenca looked to the side, at the electrical devices surrounding their languid position. she stared without really seeing them. She was gazing at something else.

"Whatever I say...will sound foolish to your ears. My reasons for my misery, hatred of the halfbreeds...I spent so many years cleaning up after their mess. One of them would get too powerful for their own good, ruin the world around them, kill everything, destroy all that provided order and balance. I took care of it. I had too. That is what my father wanted. I find the worlds that are overrun with the halfbreeds...and I...cleanse them. They get a fresh start...a new begining." her voice drops bitterly. "Only to rise again and repeat the same mistakes over and over....It never ends..."

He listens to her, intently.

When she quiets, he replies. His face is almost parental, but his tone of voice is not condescending. "They are foolish, aren't they? And such is the nature of man. There is beauty to it as well. Brief lives spent struggling, scrapping to hold onto and protect the things that are important to them. Many of them squander their lives investing in temporary comforts, to no end. Their greed can poisonous. Their powerlust, relentless and destructive.

And yet... these tendencies exist within us all.

They are the remnants of our great race, Elenca...They have the blood of the gods in them, and yet, they don't have the benefit of our age and culture to help them use their gifts wisely.

They have a place in the balance of things. We were kings once, and we fell, and it is their age now. For now.

It sounds to me like you are trapped in a cycle that you can't break out of, re-living it, over and again. It sounds to me that you are fighting a war that no one can win."

The sudden sound of crashing ceramic interrupted them. She stood there, her jade eyes wide her face very pale, shaking as if caressed by a too cold breeze. She panted slightly for it was all she could do, too shocked was she for words. She had been standing there for a few moments unable to utter a sound until finally the mug she had been spilling on herself fell from her hand. Still she stood there, mute, her leg was burt from the hot liquid and her heart threatened to beat out of her chest but still she stood there, looking at them. She was sitting on her couch talking calmly to him. Her mind quickly rephrased that, there sat the person she had broken out of the labs for fear of what might happen if the person sitting beside him got her way. She felt light headed and for a moment wondered if she had stepped out of the kitchen and in to a dream.
