Chapter 1: Present Day

Rose awoke to complete darkness. She could hear the swoosh and crash of the waves from outside the window. But no light shown through them, none ever did. They were boarded up for the sole purpose to keep the light out. But there was not much need for that since she never went out during the day. She couldn't, not unless she wanted to die a horrible painful death. She could not venture into the bright light of day, she could never see the blue skies, nor could she feel the warmth of the sun. Rose, you see, is a vampire. A vampire with a little secret. She was bitten when she was but only sixteen years of age and does not remember the soft feel of the sun on her face or the light; even the soft glow of the bright blue sky was lost to her. It had been four hundred since she had been turned, a four hundred years of darkness. Too most four hundred years of life seemed like paradise but to Rose it was a nightmare. Eternal life as a sixteen year old was not the life she had planned.

Slowly the black oak lid to the small coffin creaked open. Rose was very short so the coffin only took closet space compared to a full-grown vampire. Rose took her time getting up. She wasn’t waiting for it to be night. She was fully aware that night has fallen. She was hesitant for another reason. She rose from the soft cushions of her sanctity and climbed out of the coffin onto the cold wooden floor. She gently closed the lid stroking the top of her long time home. She opened the tall closet door reveling to her a small room not bigger than an average living room. It was bare, dusty, lonely. No pictures, no lights, the only furniture was an old armchair in the corner and a medium sized table in the middle of the room. On the table papers were staked neatly, each paper a map of the changes of the land around her. The house was small but big enough for two, although it was just her, alone. For some time now Rose had been alone. There was a time where being a vampire had been a good, happy thing. Where she had friends, companions, and someone who she has always addressed as father. But that was a long time ago.

Rose crosses the room to the kitchen. it was a fair sized kitchen for this sized house and was kept neat, neater than the room that is . She went straight to the fridge and took out a cup of what a normal person would say would be tomato juice. But it wasn’t, it was crisp fresh blood. Her fangs enlarged as he sweet metallic liquid rushed through her mouth and over her tongue. AS hard as she had tried to not drink blood at first she had not been able to resist the deliciously sweet taste or the rush of energy she got with each sip. Though she hadn’t been able to succumb the challenge of not drinking blood she had for some time now been able to keep herself from drinking from humans. Not since she had attacked someone and killed them.

It had been not to long after she had been turned, she snuck off away from Trevor while he fed. She didn’t like watching him feed at first. She felt like a traitor watching someone feed upon a human, to take in their life’s energy until there was nothing left, until they were just an empty shell of a human, no present, and no future. She would lie to him telling him she was off feeding herself, but the truth was that she wasn’t she never did. She only fed on animals, and she only fed when she most had to. Nights were the thirst would be so unbearable she had no choice but to find blood anywhere she could. This was one of those nights. She had left before Trevor had started feeding; she had to leave before she smelt the mortals’ blood, before she saw the crimson liquid running down their neck. She was stumbling through the woods desperately trying to find an animal, any animal. A shake in the bushes, which surprised even Rose has sounded behind her. Without thinking she leapt forward to catch the animal before it could escape her grasp. But instead of an animal it was a man, in his early twenties. She landed right on top of him and knocked him over onto the ground scraping this arm. “ Well hello to you too Miss.” The surprised man said looking up at Rose. But she didn’t answer all she could concentrate on was his arm, the blood dripping down it from. The sweet smell of his blood was calling out to him, drawing her near. She drew closer to the wound sniffing the air; she touched the cut getting his blood on her finger. She slowly brought it up to her mouth tasting it. “ What are you doing!?” the man almost yelled trying to pull away. But it was to late, with that small taste Roses’ eyes flashed red and without warning she threw her arm around the mans neck and sunk her fangs deep into him. His screams would be able to be heard for miles but Rose heard nothing. The only thing she felt was the warm blood as it rushed into her mouth, it was like nothing she had ever tasted before. She wanted more, she didn’t want to stop. Before she new it the man lay limp in her arms. When she realized what she had done tears started to run down her face. Looking up Rose saw Trevor but feet away a mixed expression on his face. Happy she had finally fed from a human but sympathetic of her feelings. From that day on she had only drunken animal blood or human blood or small amounts of human blood that she would snatch from hospitals or morgues.

She sipped at her "drink" slowly savoring every last drop. She crossed the room back to her charts stacked ever so neatly on her square maple table. She smiled looking at the many charts remembering making each and every one. There was a new one on the top not quite done yet. Making the charts had been her "fathers" idea. He said knowing ones surroundings led to a long and peaceful life. So even when she was separated from him she kept making charts every year incase anything changed. Rose reached down and picked up and old map with two initials on the bottom, R.K. (Rose Killson) and T.N. (Trevor NorthWood). At the sight of his name Rose almost shed tears. She missed him so much. That life, before all the trouble started was the happiest time of her life and now she feared it would never be that way again.

Chapter 2: The Turning

The man Rose has called “father” for most of her eternal life was not her father at all. His real name was Trevor NorthWood, an adult vampire with parental and goofball feelings and a fearful anger. He was also the vampire who has turned. He had found her half dead in the woods. She had been out exploring when a wolf attacked her. She tried to fight it off but it was no used the wolf had almost killed her before being scared off. That was the first time she had seen Trevor. He was covered by shadow and spoke slowly to her as he knelt beside her, “ you are about to die my dear, I regret to inform you of this. I will give you two choices. One I can save your life, give you a new one. One, which you would never imagine. One where you will have to leave your home and come with me for all of eternity. Or I can walk away and let you die. Which would you like?” he gently stroked her hair waiting for her answer. Tears here running down her face by now, she didn’t know this man, she didn’t know what he was talking about but she knew one thing, she didn’t want to die. She nodded her head sadly knowing that she wouldn’t see her family again no matter what. “ Very well.” was all he said

He had not done it to harm her or kill her; he had bitten her to save her from death. The feeling of being bitten was a sensation of many mixed feelings. As his sharp white fangs sank deep into the soft tissue of her neck it felt as if he had only pricked her with a pin. The first thing she felt was the rush of her blood being sucked out. It was as if a dame had been opened and the water was rushing down the river at a rapid rate, but the dame was her skin and the river her crimson blood. It kept flowing out faster and faster, she felt as if he had betrayed her. That he was going to stuck out every last drop of her blood, her life force. She was going to die regardless of her choice. But suddenly when Rose could feel herself slowly slipping away into the darkness everything changed. The feeling of it made her jump in surprise, causing Trevor to clutch her arms to keep her still. Blood was now not rushing out but rushing in! Blood was flowing in through the wounds in her neck. This sensation she felt was new, it was amazing, it was a new life for her. With each flow of blood she felt stronger, more alive, the more blood pumped in the better her eyes adjusted to the dark. She liked the feeling; it was warm, comforting, safe.

When Trevor finally released her she felt tired and dizzy, but at the same time she felt wide-awake and steady. Her eyesight has rapidly increased so that now the pitch darkness of the night looked as bright as day. She looked up at the moon as she sat there on the ground, its soft glow radiating through the dark sky. A firm hand gripped her shoulder, “ How are you feeling?” She turned her head around to see Trevor standing behind her helping her up. She had not realized how deep his voice was before. She could see him clearly now, he looked nothing like she had thought. She had thought he was an elder gentleman in his mid forty’s possibly more but now she could see she couldn’t have been more wrong. He was young, 19 maybe his early twenties or so he looked that is. He was tall, much taller than she and had medium length black hair. She nodded, “ amazing actually.” She said in a strong British accent that would lessen in time but still be noticeable. “ I thank you greatly for saving me dear Sir. I am eternally in your debt.” She curtsied low bowing her head. To her surprise he laughed, chuckled at her gratitude. He’d learn later that she wasn’t the person to laugh at. “ Oh my dear you have no idea what eternity is until you’ve lived it and I assure you, you will.” Rose knew exactly what he meant, “ I’ve been turned haven’t I? I mean it’s painfully obvious that you’re a vampire. I knew it as soon as you started talking to me, then when you gave me the choice you just confirmed my suspicions. I suppose now I can’t go into the light, or see my reflection, or walk through a moving river ever again.” She said calmly staring back at the moon. Trevor laughed again, “Heh, clever girl. Yes am and a vampire as you also are now. No you cannot go into the light of day, I wouldn’t recommend walking through moving water without a boat, but that last one is a lie. It was made up by some scared human who thought that vampires had no sole; therefore without a sole we could not have a reflection, because a reflection is a glimpse of your sole. But we do have soles, and we do have reflections.” Rose turned toward the border to the town, “ Well we better leave before they realize I’m gone. My Aunt will come looking if I’m not back by dawn. Oh and will you pick that up for me?” without a replay Rose started walking. Trevor looked down and there was a book at the base of his feet, one that had not been there before. He picked it up and joined Rose. Later he would learn just what secrets that book held and what troubles laid ahead because of it. “You should know,” he said appearing next to her. “ I am Trevor NorthWood. May I be graced with your name?” She didn’t look up at him she just looked ahead, “ Rose. Rose Killson.” “ Well Miss Killson I believe we are going to be good friends. Good friends indeed.” Rose didn’t reply she just kept walking forward. Walking away from her life’s home, away from her family, her friends, and into her new life. One of which she would never have imagined.
