During a race i get tried and feel like slowing down. What are some things you do and tell yourself to not slow down and push yourself.

Make your goal to catch up to/pass the person in front of you. If you pass them, try to catch the person in front of them next. Gives you something to think about rather than just feeling tired.
If you run out of people to pass, then you're doing quite well in the race. Try not to let anyone pass you. smile

i've never really had this problem... I'm a wrestler so I never learned the meaning of being tired or wanting to quit, but if I feel like crap I usually chant the name of my gf or someone on the team better than me. Sometimes i even sing songs to myself. Rock that is. Rock rulez!

Having a song in your head helps an awful lot, especially if you forget the words(for me anyway)since you try so hard to remember them, you forget about being tired. 3nodding My friends always tell me to think I'm running away from murderers, while needing to go the bathroom, while trying to save my dog....It kinda works aswell. xp Looking down at my feet while running helps me,because you just forget about how long more you have to run.

when i slow down i think of such things like:
-the faster you finish the pain will be over with faster -i know i can do this so i should just continue on even if it is painful or like -i've been through this before

Usually when I run a race I like to think of how much I just want to stop. And that just makes me think, wow In only 2/3 or however many miles, ill be done. So In like the last mile ill tell myself, common, one more mile and you can go take a nap, and pour water on your head etc. etc., it gets your mind off of running, and its true smile
