What is the musical talent to hip hop and rap?
All I hear is noise and fast talking.
Tell me where I'm going wrong.
I'm not bashing the music, I'm just confused on how it's defined a genre of music....
Any CONSTRUCTIVE comments would be nice.

Rap is, in my opinion, an evolved form of music where it goes beyond the sound into the actual lyrics. Creating what we refer to as lyricism, or rap. Rap always had a reason, originally, but it has rather fallen from its lyrical roots as of late. I don't need to go into detail really.
someone list some underground emcees, an it will probably cure up her confusion.
As a side note, you have to have a quick mind to listen to rap. Rappers will say meaningful things, but keep in mind its rap, so if your mind cant process the lyrics fast enough, well, thats a personal problem.

Aside from those links that Lone_Ronin gave, I'll give my own personal explanation. The I define hiphop music as Rhythm And Poetry. It's both these things at the same time. Some people people focus on one aspect more than others. For example, people that focus more on the rhythm aspect, may be categorized as Popish. While people that focus on the poetry side of it, may be considered conscious artists, or something to that degree. I classify Rap as Modern Poetry, or Street Poetry. Just like Shakespeare is commonly considered "Classical Poetry", Rap would be the modernized version, in my book. If you are able to read lyrics on a piece of paper, they can really be appreciated as poetic. Then you add the rhythm to the poetry and it suddenly becomes music at that point. Check out my journal for a good example of this. I think its link my third entry, I have streams in there that you can listen to. The entry is called "All Hail Good Music"

How are rockers screaming at the top of their lungs considered musical artists of any genre?
How are musicians who only play instruments and have no lyrics or singing skills considered artists of an genre?
Why do people constantly stereotype Rap? It's a damn shame.
There a series of dynamics to Rapping ranging from lyricism to performance. Flow, breath control, timing, pronunciation, it's all a major part of rapping. You need to know what you're doing, what you're saying and keeping it with a beat.
The beat itself is music. Instrumentals, those catchy drums and toe tipping tunes. If it isn't considered a musical genre, why do people sing a majority of their Choruses on Rap songs? Why is Hip-Hop & R&B often considered a single category or similar musical genres? I can keep countering your question with questions of my own, but I believe I've given you an answer and proven my point.

Well, let's get the musical fundamentals out first. We have musical composition which plays a major part in music. It's either the structure in music or it helps out in the structure. Rap does that, not only is the beat composing but rap is as well. The vocals play a major part in rap since it's mainly a lyrics-focused genre and rapping may not have a melody but as a composer, the rapper composes his lyrics into the music. But the beat plays a part in it as well. A beat is conducted to make sure that a rapper stays on any tempo they're most comfortable with and since it is a bit repetitive then it's simple. But most producers experiment to create an ambience that can set any mood they desire, even samples play a major part in this. Another one is musical improvisation. Improvised rap is one of the most key elements in being a talented rapper, it shows how clever you are when someone expects you to rhyme on the spot. You need to notice the punchlines, the poetic elements such as alliteration, assonance, similes, etc. to make a nice rhyme. Vocal wise, rapping is a type of vocalization. You do use your voice to make music, you just have a different method in conducting your voice. You have to have a certain delivery in which anyone can notice you and feel your presence. You can create the octaves in your voice, and also control the loudness of it. You can also control your tempo, meaning that not all rappers fast talk, they try to find a rhythm and stay on that. Instrumental wise, rap does have instruments, it's just that most of the time the producer/DJ is in control of them. (Besides rapping) Most of the instruments are electronic and it does include a sampler. So, that's all I feel like telling you since I'm bored and I'm worried that this computer might freak out on me. If you look at this, you can tell that there are perfect reasons why rap is music.
