Has anyone read his novels? The first book of his I came across was Sabriel. The first book in the Old Kingdom Series, back when I was in middle school. That's been yrs for me. I came across his Keys to the Kingdom Series end of last yr I think and though it's YA it was interesting enough for me to keep with it until the 6th book. The 7th doesn't come out until later this yr.

Though now I hear that they maybe doing a Sabriel movie. *cringe* lol

anyone enjoy his books or don't enjoy them?

We may be discussing Sabriel at some length at some point soon razz
That's if Graceling doesn't over take it; it's only 4 votes behind now.

My roommate has an extensive Nix collection. I've been thinking of picking one up eventually. Probably, Sabriel.

I've read the Old Kingdom books and most of the Keys books.
I really liked them all. I liked the Old Kingdom better though.
I also heard he was writing a new Old Kingdom book? I'm not sure if he is but I would love it if he did.

Yeah it's called Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen, though it won't be out until next year. smile
He has a companion story out for the series called: The Creature in the Case
It came in the collection: Across the Wall: A Tale of the Abhorsen and Other Stories.

I liked the Old Kingdom better as well. Though it maybe because I've always been interested in the subject of Necromancy in fiction.

It does sound horrible, but I really hope it does take it over. I don't really want to read another YA book.

-wills next year to come faster- I have a feeling I'll be re-reading them all in the near future.

I read across the wall. It was okay the Creature in the Case was kinda creepy though.

I had never actually heard of Necromancy until I read them D: I read them like 3 years ago (maybe 2 can't remember).

Sabriel is a good book. Though in my opinion I prefer Lirael I don't know I guess I like it better cause she is just learning the ropes sort of. It kind of builds up the suspense of whats to come and I like the cover art. The first and third book were ok, but that one is my favorite.

Sabriel was his only okay book, and everyone (even the reviews on the cover!!) thinks it's his first book, but it's actually his second. His real first novel is The Ragwitch. If you have any care for your own sanity, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. It is incredibly disjointed and I only read it because I was a semi-Nix fan when I was in junior high. I stopped being a Nix fan when I read his website, wherein he is extremely full of himself, and also rude to or ignores his fans (including me!) and I thought, "I don't want to support someone like this, especially when they're not even talented."

Either way, Sabriel should have been a stand-alone, but he just goes way too far into it and ruins what was only an okay story at first with bad sequels. I'm sorry to all you Lirael fans out there, but she annoys me because she's a whiner who's a wimp that just wants to jump off a glacier. I was like, "Go! Go!" but then she didn't jump, and then she was just annoying for the subsequent 800 pages or so of the rest of the series.

Nix wanted to make a Sabriel movie, but he got together a package of a screenwriter who he collaborated with to produce a script, a director, and a producer (I think, on that last) and pitched the whole package as a locked-together deal more than a year ago. Obviously, since the movie is not even in pre-production yet, this pitch failed.

Oh, well. I think a movie out of any of his books would not turn out well. Movies out of books just tend to turn out badly...they cut too many things out and add irrelevant scenes (poor Harry Potter).

An apology if I have offended anyone, for I did not intend to. Nix is just one of those writers who gets too full of themselves when they achieve success, and instead of focusing on improvement, they dizzy themselves in fame and think they're all that, which they're not (can anyone say Stephanie Meyer?).

The best writers are the ones who keep a level head. Rowling is a very good example of this. You never hear her brag and she writes Harry Potter side-books for charities, etc, and her writing is great! With every book it gets better.

I'll stop before I go too off-topic.
