Hey there, kigurumin. owo
I've been dying to make a kigumi for a while now, and while I was looking through patterns at JoAnn yesterday, I foun something that might help. :0

Some of you might've already seen it, but here it is anyway.

Not really a kigurumi, but they're animal pjs and there are a few different patterns.
To get a kigu look, I imagine you can get a larger size, even if you're already on the chubby side (the sizes are even loose for small).

I just realized I got a small by accident, so I'm gonna exchange it for a medium to get a bugger kigu look out of it. :3

Anyway, it's easily altered to become any animal or character. I'll let you all know how it goes when its done. <3

Edit: Also found this one. Looks better than the one I got, actually. o-o;
Course, mine was on sale for $2 at the time. lol

I think I'll be making a bun-bun or a fox. Maybe Tails. owo
The pattern's hood definitely needs altering, but other thn that everything looks perfect for a kigu. <3

Okay, so I ended up making Max (from Where the Wild Things Are) for Halloween.
I ended up using the McCall's pattern in medium.
The hood is smaller than the average kigu, and the pattern doesn't include instructions on how to put in the elastic, but you can figure that out.
I suggest using the size medium for an average or slender body type. If you're pretty short and small, the size small will fit better.
And if you're a girl, do follow the Miss' instructions, because if not you won't be able to walk or stick your hand out of your sleeve, unless you're very, very tall.
I actually had to take it in at the crotch and legs because I was swimming in it too much for my own comfort, but if that's okay with you then you need not alter the body's pattern. Some alterationa are already included in the pattern: Making the sleeves, torso, and legs shorter (for Miss'), and taking some width. Those are written directly on the pattern piece and they're easy to follow because they only require folding and taping before you cut out the fabric.
It shows you how to put in a zipper, but you can add faux buttons to the outside, or even real ones if you prefer them to a zipper for whatever reason. I personally prefer the zipper, although in the future I plan on adding faux buttons like Max's PJs.

Anyway, it all went well except that it was near 80 degrees that evening... When I started it two weeks earlier the highs were in the 60s, so I thought it would continue to Halloween night... I thought wrong. D:

Hello, my name is Julie. ^^ I'm trying to make a kigu myself, what do you recommend the fabric to be made out of for the inside? I was thinking of buying solid anti - pill fleece for the outside/body. I really want to make a bear pajama like from Serial experiments lain. : ) What do you think is a good fabric for making the face patterns? Also, how many yards do you suppose would be enough? This is my first time making a kigu, so I'm trying my best to look for tutorials/videos and this guild really helps.

I was thinking this fabric : Solid Brown Anti - Pill Fleece

Here is an example I found from other people's kigu/serial experiments lain :
