Chapter One;;
"Fairview"
The group has spent the day driving after their last job. They've just hunted down and performed an exorcism on a demon possessing a young girl in a rural New Mexico town. They've found themselves in Colorado, and are pulling into a motel in a small city called Fairview. Tired, they decide it'll have to do. They get two rooms, as always. One for the girls, and one for the guys. The time is one in the morning. As they part ways and head to their rooms for the night, a TV broadcast is airing. On most channels and a few radio stations, a message similar to the following is being played:
"Police are gathering at the scene of St. Mary's Hospital. Just one hour ago, several phone calls were placed to the local authorities about a man carrying a gun through the hall. So far, hospital security has been unable to confirm the situation, as no man has been found. Locals are advised to take caution and be on the lookout for a man in his mid thirties standing about six feet tall with brown hair. He is Caucasian, and wearing a business suit."
The report continues to cover the police and security at the hospital searching both the building and nearby area for this man.

He'd driven most of the way. Resa had tried to get him to let her drive, but it was his car, and there was no way that he was going to let her crash...er...drive it. He turned off the ignition. "Alright. Time for a semi-decent night's sleep," he said a bit sarcastically. It had been a while since the last time he'd actually gotten a decent rest. The job was like that. Some weeks his sleeping habits mirrored that of a Vampire's. Sleep during the day, and be up all night. 'At least Vampires get to sleep the whole day,' Reid thought. Some days the job was a bit of a drag.
"Wait here. I'll get us rooms," Reid said, and entered the motel's main lobby. He walked up to the desk and rang the bell. The manager came out, looking a little irritated to have to be awake at this hour, but he was nice enough as Reid paid him for two rooms with a credit card he'd taken out under a fake name.
"Thank you, Mr. Everett. Enjoy your stay," the manager said, handing over the card keys. Reid thanked him and left, checking over his shoulder as he returned to the car. It was a habit now. Hunting tended to make one paranoid.
He handed the keys to one of the rooms to Resa. "Night you two," he said to both his sister and Lark. He always had his worries sending Lark with his sister. Reid guessed there was still some part of Resa that refused to trust Lark, but his twin refused to say anything about it to him. Lark was a demon after all, one of the things they'd spent years hunting down and killing. They were evil, why should Lark be an exception?
She was an exception though, Reid knew. He grabbed his backpack from the trunk, leaving it open for the others to get there things. "C'mon James, let's go." Reid found the room number and unlocked the door, pushing it open. He threw the backpack onto one of the two beds and flopped down beside it. For a cheap motel, it wasn't as bad as some. In fact, it was quite cozy. Better than the last one, that was for sure. They were only staying the night though. Tomorrow they'd be off in search of a new job.
Reid stood up and went to turn on the T.V.. He needed some noise in the room, if only to make him less paranoid.
"...advised to take caution and be on the lookout for a man in his mid thirties standing about six feet tall with brown hair," a newswoman said, reporting from in front of a hospital. So much for less paranoid. Reid changed the channel, looking for more details. It had seemed there were several witness reports of an armed man moving through St. Mary's - the local hospital, but security had failed to locate him. It was odd, Reid thought, but probably just some whack job. Nothing paranormal or supernatural there. Reid sighed, laying back on the bed. Something still just didn't feel right. Maybe he wouldn't get any sleep after all. ╚══════════════✥══════════════╝ 'Cause life starts NOW, You've done all the things That could kill you somehow...And you're so far down B u t you will survive this Somehow because L I F E starts now...

James had, for the most part, been watching the flickering lights of the highway through the car window, elbow on the car door, his pale, peach hand propping his head up. His dull green eyes traced the movement of the slurring lights, sleeping slowly taking him. He couldn't wait to get into a bed and just sleep. He was nodding off when the car rolled to a stop. Unexpectedly James lurched forward, head banging off the back of the front seat. He yawned, recoiling against the soft interior of the car, eyes closed, mouth wide like a yawning cat. "Are we there?" he asked in a sleepy voice, the yawn escaping into his words.
One at a time, he rubbed his eyes of sleep, leaning forward, hands in between his legs clasped together. "Please don't tell me that we're stopping to fight some ghouly..." he mumbled, trying to wake up from his between state of awareness and sleeplessness.
Thankful, James unbuckled his seat belt, pushed the locking mechanism down to open the door and slid out onto his jelly like legs. He wobbled for a moment, having gained car legs and lost land legs. He placed his palm on the car door for a brief second before flinching away from it. If he recalled correctly, at this time of night, Reid was the kind of person to obsess over his car. That meant, any scratches, bumps of imperfections and he would go ballistic.
James stayed with the car as Reid went off to pay for the rooms. He was nodding off, arms crossed and head down when he came back out.
"C'mon James, let's go."
James wobbled once more, shoving his hands deep into his dark blue jean pockets, swinging foot in front of foot to gain momentum. He then dug into the trunk and pulled out his dark blue duffel bag, swinging it over his shoulder with ease. "Right Reid," he mumbled yawning once again. The erratic nights and days of missed sleep and awkward schedules had completely messed with his cycle. However much he disliked it, he had gotten used to the weird sleeping habits. At least he wasn't at the wheel... like Reid would let him anywhere near it anyways. Snapping himself awake, James walked slowly to the motel room, his mouth covered by his free hand.
James had tossed his dark blue duffel bag onto the old, squeaky mattress bed of the motel bedroom. He sat down on the end of the bed as Reid flicked on the television with the remote. James flopped down, arms stretched out on the mattress. He wasn't too pleased at the size, seeing how his arms were falling off the sides and that he had a tendency to sprawl out all over the bed like a star fish.
His eyes were closing slowly when he hear the sound of the television report. He groaned, wiggled up the bed, his head lands flat into the middle of the fluffy white sheeted pillow. He mumbled something into the feathered pillow and rolled to his side, staring at Reid through half closed eyes. "I going to guess that you want to check it out..." he muttered, head flopping back into the pillow once more. "And if you are... consider me a log. I'm so tired... I can... my eyes feel... like... lead...." with that he heaved a huge sigh and floated into a light sleep.
James was always a light sleeper, it came with the job. Therefore he hated two things; noise and light either of which would wake him up and keep him awake, in most circumstances unless he was completely drained, like that night. His chest expanded and feel as he shifted comfortably in bed. You always knew that it wouldn't be easy
To go back to the start to see where it all began
Or end up at the bottom to watch how it all ends She'd ridden the entire way with a pout on her face, her arms crossed angrily as she stared out the window as the scenery blew by in a blur. Furious that Reid wouldn't let her drive his stupid car. Just because she had nearly crashed it before in her haste, he completely refused to trust her with his beauty. Resale sighed heavily, loud enough to hint at her frustration with her twin. She was glad when he finally parked, her eyes heavy with the threat of sleep, quickly rubbing them to at least give her some more time before she passed out. It had been a long day, and she needed as much sleep as she could get. Hey, a girl needed her beauty sleep.
Resa followed Reid and the others inside the motel, stuffing her hands into the pockets of her jeans and yawning. As he went off to the front desk to buy their rooms, she took in her surroundings, slightly surprised by how...nice the motel seemed. She had always imagined them to be full of roaches and other obscenities (she'd experienced the worst of the worst). Grudgingly, she crossed her arms and glanced over at Reid upon his return. She supposed she would have to congratulate him on the fine choice of refuge. He did a good job, she thought reluctantly. Upon learning their room assignments, she couldn't help but stare blankly at her brother. Seriously? He expected her to sleep with some demon? She'd rather bunk with him, even if he was insufferable. Nevertheless, though she outwardly griped and complained, she reluctantly conceded and was soon walking off in the direction of the car to get her belongings, then off to her and Lark's room.
"Night..." She called behind her, casting a wary glance at Lark behind her. She still found it hard to trust the demon, though she never verbalized her thoughts. There was just something odd about fighting with the thing they were fighting against.
Throwing her backpack on the bed closest to the window, she plopped down next to it, sprawling out on the bed and relishing the softness of the blankets. Another point for Reid. It was too bad they'd only be staying for the night. Maybe a week here would finally help Resa catch up on the precious sleep she had been missing out on. Unlike her twin, she didn't have the ability to run on a lack of sleep. She needed it to function or else you'd have a very irritable girl on your hands. In the case of battle, it fit in perfectly. In the case of being in the same room, everyone tried to stay out of her way. Rolling over onto her side, she began to ruffle through her bag, drawing out her pajamas. A long t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Something comfortable for a comfy room.
Looking up at Lark, she hesitated. Though she appeared to be a girl, the demon inside her could be male, and Resa would just be flashing the goods everywhere. After a moment, she shrugged and began to strip down to her skivvies, pulling on her pajamas and leaping back onto the bed, now completely comfortable. She then pulled her hair back, holding it with her hand and beckoning Lark with her free one. "Hey, do you have a scrunchy or something?"
As she waited, she flicked on the television, immediately being accosted by a news report of some happening at a hospital. Resa rolled her eyes, sighing heavily. If Reid was watching this, she definitely wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight. "--the scene of St. Mary's Hospital...several phone calls were placed to the local authorities about a man carrying a gun..." Oh yeah, she wouldn't be getting sleep for sure. 魔 Larken Azlynya Elara Rulya Mavire Cyri the Demoness 魔 xxxOther cars were passed by, their vibrant colors blending into a streak in Lark's vision. She was sure that Reid was speeding, but at least Resa wasn't driving--that girl behind the wheel of a car was a nightmare. The light-haired girl, sitting beside Lark, had her arms crossed decisively. Tonight was going to be another one of those nights--bunking with the hot-headed twin of Reid was quite an adventure, at times. xxxShe chewed her bottom lip thoughtfully as the car turned a sharp corner and drove into the near-empty parking lot. Reid hopped out of the car and jogged off to go get the rooms. xxxLark opened the car door, taking care not to harm the paint job. Reid could be quite vicious about the state of his vehicle. The motel was backed by woods, and practically let off straight onto the highway. Cars zoomed past, tires spinning and the sinking sun reflecting off of bug-splattered windshields. xxxReid returned, tossing a room key to Resa. xxx"Night, you two," he murmured, not meeting Lark's eyes. She was sure that he still didn't trust her, not even after all the times she had helped. Resa unlocked the room door and took the bed next to the window. Lark sat down on the other bed. The mattress was unnaturally firm, and squeaked and groaned under even her light weight. She pressed a palm to the quilted bedspread and smoothed it out, plucking a dark hair from its surface. xxx"Hey, do you have a scrunchy or something?" Resa asked, beckoning with her hand. Lark shook her head, running a hand through her cropped hair. xxx"No, sorry." Resa flicked on the television. Some news report was on about a man who had lost his marbles. xxxLark stood and undressed, turning away from Resa. She had never understood modesty, but why would she? It wasn't like it was her body anyway. xxxThat's right, it isn't your body, the host's voice whispered in her head. Why won't you just leave? xxxLark sighed, inwardly hushing her host. Eventually, this host's soul would die, but she hadn't been in the body even a year yet. In her three-hundred years, she had not encountered such a stubborn host. She did have to admit, however, that the host's quiet commentary on daily events made for mild entertainment. xxxShe sat, nude, on the bed, and hugged her knees toward her chest. The news program was continuing, now focusing on some food poisoning scare a few states away. Lark wondered where their next case would be, and what sort of spook it would be. She chewed on her lip again, glancing over at Resa.

The news report had switched to the local weather, detailing normal fall weather: cool, partially cloudy, with a slight chance of rain. Reid was tired, but he couldn't sleep. It was happening a lot lately. Paranoia perhaps? Job stress, for sure. People thought CEO's, Government officials, and big time surgeons had high anxiety from work. Obviously, they'd never tried Hunting.
That was probably a good thing, though. It was best the world didn't know about the dark things that lay in waiting around each corner, under beds, and deep within dark places. For now, the world was relatively sane, compared to what it could be.
With a resigned sigh, Reid closed his eyes, attempting to sleep, but that peace did not come. Instead, Reid found himself among faint shadows that danced upon the walls, taunting him. They weren’t really moving, Reid was sure, but they seemed to be. Nothing seemed normal anymore. Just another perk of the job: paranoia. Reid was quite the paranoid one. Everyone was a threat, until they had proven themselves otherwise.
Reid sat up again, looking around the room of the motel with wary, tired eyes. Reid needed something to do. James would be out for at least a few hours, which gave him some time. It was still early, and dawn was hours away. Standing up slowly, Reid grabbed a motel key and headed outside, closing the door softly behind him. What were the chances that there was something to hunt in a small town that they had stopped in by chance? They were slim, and extremely so, but the very thought of hunting was enough to take Reid’s mind off of darker subjects.
The air was cool and refreshing, almost a wake up call to Reid’s weary mind. The very feel of being outside at night was enough to make him feel alive again. He walked to the car, grabbing a bag of supplies out of the trunk. It had all the necessary objects and items required for minor, regular tasks such as eliminating ghosts and the typical demon. More complicated than that, and Reid would need help anyway, so the rest of the supplies could remain. Besides, Reid wasn’t looking for trouble, he was just hoping it would find him.
Adjusting the backpack on his shoulders, Reid set off into the night, headed in the direction of St. Mary’s hospital. That wasn’t his destination; he couldn’t hope to reach it, search the area thoroughly, and return before dawn. No. He hoped that if there was something there, it would come his way. ╚══════════════✥══════════════╝ 'Cause life starts NOW, You've done all the things That could kill you somehow...And you're so far down B u t you will survive this Somehow because L I F E starts now...

He had scrunched up into a small ball with a pillow strangled between his arms. Mouth slightly ajar, James breathed silently dreaming of a land which did not exist in reality the way he had hopped. A disturbing turn in the dream startled him awake, his legs twitching and kicking outwards as he tossed his body to lay on his back. Springing out of the sleeping position, Jame sat up and took a deep breath, heart pounding in his chest. He muttered a curse under his breath ruffling his hand through his hair. Forgetting the nightmare, he turned to look around the room.
The light of the television flickered from commercial to commercial. James rubbed his eyes and yawned. With one eye he lazily examined the red, glowing numbers of the old alarm clock. It was nearing two in the morning. With another yawn, he examined the darkened room. The bed next to him, being the second double bed of the two, was empty and untouched.
James muttered a few words to himself before swinging his legs over the side of the bed. He stood up, bent over and picked up the pillow which had fallen softly on the carpeted flooring of the motel room. He placed it back in its original place before staggering to a tall standing position. Tucking his hands into his pockets he wobbled over to the fridge to investigate their food supply. Empty. He should have figured.
Stomach rumbling, he closed the fridge door, canceling out the flooding yellowish light. He then proceed to turn on the lights, and rummage through the near empty cabinets. After finding a box of half eaten animal crackers, James moved over to his bed and sat down, taking the remote to change the channel. He came across another news station with the whole story of the mad man at St. Mary's. Groaning, he put two and two together realizing that Reid probably couldn't sleep, and being that sort of guy, was out to have a look around.
James munched on the crackers as the details continued. 'Time, place, location... it would be too far for him to walk...' James thought, biting off the head of a Zebra shaped cookie.
After his little snack, not nearly filling enough, James stood up and walked over to the door. He slipped on his shoes and gave a gentle yawn. He was still hungry, and decided that he would grab something to eat from the vending machines downstairs.
James was at the vending machine, pressing the number and letter for the Mars bar he had eyed when something caught his attention. She was wearing a white top and jeans with long golden hair. James bent down and picked up his bar, unwrapping it as he watched the girl complain to the manager.
Curious, he made his way over to the two, munching on his chocolate snack.
"What do you mean there are no rooms available!?" she yelled slamming her fists down onto the check in desk. "Miss, it's as I said, there are no rooms left."
"I need a room. How much!?" She demanded with a hint of malice to her voice. The man shuddered but kept his ground. "There are no rooms left." He said trying to keep calm. "Fine!" she shouted muttering a curse word under her breath. She then grabbed her designer purse from the counter and stalked off.
James had finished his bar and walked over to the counter. "What's up?" he asked nonchalantly, pushing his wrapper into his jean pocket. "Nothing." Replied the desk jockey who turned around to sift through some paper work.
James shrugged and turned his head to look at the figure of the woman disappear into the parking lot. He hook his head and sighed lightly. He figured now would be the best time to gather information, since he was no longer asleep. "Has there been any unusual activity here lately?" he asked out of the blue, eyes wandering around the room.
"Yeah. Down at St. Mary's. I wouldn't got there though, not with all the police and such around. Not a great place to be." The man replied not looking at James. "Any deaths...?" He continued. "Not that I know of."
With little information to go on, James returned to his bedroom. Reid's thing were gone, for the most part, which left James with a sinking feeling. He didn't know what he was up to but he didn't like that he wanted to go in alone.

You always knew that it wouldn't be easy
To go back to the start to see where it all began
Or end up at the bottom to watch how it all ends Damn, no scrunchy. But of course, what could she expect from some demon in some girl's body? Resa stared at the television, ignoring the compulsion to glance over at Lark as the demoness began to undress for the night, stripping down to the bare necessities. She couldn't help but blush in embarrassment, wondering how Lark could possibly go naked in front of someone else, and so nonchalantly! Perhaps it was because she was really a he? Maybe. And also the reason could be because he/she was a creature not of this world, inhabiting the body of someone else that it could have cared less about. Even so...
Resa stared hard at the tv, forcing her complete attention on the news report and leaning her cheek on her hand to push away the redness staining her cheeks. After a while, the news report switched to something more 'interesting,' focusing on a food poisoning scare in who-knows-where. Boring. What really interested her was the news about the shooting in the city. She knew that, more than likely, Reid was probably watching and was thinking the same thing she was -- though she hated to admit it.
"He's gonna go after that god-damned shooter, you know..." she said aloud, glancing over at Lark. It was a fact, Reid loved to investigate things, and this seemed right up his alley. "We're going too."
Truthfully, Resa didn't like it when Reid went off alone, which was most of the time. She worried, though she would never tell him, and always felt the need to run off after him and, of course, take the lead. Nodding her head as she made her decision, Resa stood up quickly from her bed, ignoring her hair as it fell, unbound, to her shoulders. She didn't bother to re-change her clothes, finding it to be more comfortable in her shorts and bolted towards the door, grabbing Lark's hand along the way. In her haste, she momentarily forgot that the demoness was naked, whipping Lark to her feet and coming face to face with womanly parts. Of course, she knew what to expect, she was familiar with the female anatomy, seeing that Resa was female herself but, nevertheless, she immediately released Lark's hand and fell backwards with a blush.
"P-Put on some clothes! Dear sweet...why weren't you wearing clothes in the first place?!" She went off, her words flurried in a rush of babble and stammering, in the end only making herself seem more insane than usual.
"I'll b-be out in the hall...just come out when you're ready."
Without waiting for a reply, Resa left the room, slamming the door behind her and fanning her face to cool it down. The things she had to deal with. She sighed, looking towards the direction of Reid and James' room. Perhaps Reid hadn't left yet, though she seriously doubted it. Even so, there was a chance that James was still inside, hopefully sleeping. That boy could seriously sleep when he was tired. The poor kid didn't seem like he was getting used to the late hours that came with the Hunter job. One day, maybe. Resa looked behind her at the door momentarily, stuck between two thoughts. Wait for Lark and then go for James, or go for James before he possibly wakes up and leaves and then come back for Lark.
A dilemma.
In the end, Resa was off, running down the hall towards her brother and James' room, banging loudly on the door in order to rouse the sleepy rookie. It took a rude stare from another inhabitant of the motel to tell her that he wasn't inside, and that she was too late. That would mean that Reid was off looking for trouble, and James was off looking for Reid, more than likely. This couldn't suck any worse. Defeated, Resa returned to her room to wait for Lark, leaning against the wall and sighing. Could no one wait for the entire group?
