Summer was beginning to wind down, with the chill of fall nipping at its heels. Ceres, the keeper of the fields, was looking forward to the fall harvest season and the return of her apprentice, but her young companion, Persephone, was actually quite sad about the passing of the seasons. The adolescent greatly enjoyed the summer months that she spent lazing in her home territory, and while Ceres was anticipating the actual harvesting of the plants, the purple-and-white 'giet was nostalgic for the spring planting of them. So really, the picnic was her idea, even if the larger, stronger, winged 'giet was the one who spread the word. Any way you looked at it, the announcement had gone around that there would be a small gathering in the valley clearing at the bottom of the mountains, and that everybody was to bring some sort of food to say goodbye to summer. Ceres and Persephone had threshed a bundle of tritocale stalks, delicious and tender in the stems and tangily crunchy at the heads. They went excellently with anything, and they grew quickly- even though summer wasn't even out yet, they were edible at this stage. They were about the perfect grain, to go with the perfect day. Ceres relaxed, laying on her side, watching the stream trickle down from the mountains, while Persephone tracked down some flowers to decorate the clearing even more thoroughly.
Now, to wait for others to show up with their contributions.

"Come along now cev..don't be so prissy about this. It'll be fun, and they're will be girls there" chipotle couldn't help but roll his eyes as he said it, honestly his reason for going was the food, as he'd hoped his estranged friends reasons would be. Sadly though cerval had interest in one thing and one thing only..women..well himself and women so maybe that was two things. Crunching along softly through the soft grass as he made his way up the pass and into the low valley clearing at the edge of the mountain, eager to see ceres at the picnic. For a food lover like him picnic's were a delight, a chance to share recipes and delicacies, see what others of his own kind had managed to create. Maybe even get some juicy cooking secrets!
Cerval grunted gruffly through the pack in his mouth, eventually chipotle had gotten tired of his whining and complaining and made him carry the food. A large wrapped warm leaf containing a fresh salsa, another wrap snugged in next to it, about all he could carry, full of spiced meats. Even if cerval never quite understood the gentle and shy cooks ways he did absolutely love the way he made food. Always seeming to find the perfect way to mix vegetables into a meal without making them seem all..yucky...
"Ah, cev look!" chipotle grinned and plodded forwards to greet ceres and her friend, admiring the way the clearing was beautifully set and prepared, the scents of the bits of food already prepared and set out wafting to him, making him tingle right down to his toes. "Ah ceres, its good to see you..haha, this is my..uhm..my friend, Cerval!" he introduced, his bushy tail wagging softly.
Again cerval merely grunted and went to set the food they'd brought with the rest, eyes lingering on the pair..well at least chipotle had been right about one thing. There were girls there!

It was still quite early in the day, yet Ceres heard the first two guests arrive at the picnic. Rolling over to face the mouth of the clearing, she saw a pair of red male 'giets enter the clearing, carrying a pack that even from the ground smelled delicious. She was quite delighted to notice that one of them was her friend and cooking instructor, Chipotle. Clambering to her feet, she trotted to meet the pair, smiling at Chipotle and wagging her tail in greeting. "Chipotle! Hello! It's wonderful to see you again!" She nodded and flicked her ears at the other. "And Cerval; welcome! It's so good to have you here. Here, why don't you set that pack down and get comfortable." At the arrival of two other kom'giets, Persephone hustled from the flower arrangements to greet them. Unfortunately, she thought, they were both adults. There was no opportunity to flirt or play coyly here without seeming a brazen hussy. The white and purple literne peeked out from behind her instructor's wings, a few husks of seeds stuck in her silky fur. The male her mentor knew was larger than the other, but both were red; it looked as though they could be brothers, or perhaps cousins. As she was evaluating the pair, Ceres felt her bumping her legs behind her. "Ah, there you are. Get out here, you!" she commanded playfully. As the literne darted out from behind her to face the males, Ceres patted her head. "This is my apprentice, Persephone, just down from up the mountains. She stays with me in the spring for the planting and the fall and winter for the harvest and storage. This little get-together was her idea. Seph, this is my friend Chipotle and his companion, Cerval." Persephone nodded and bowed her head. "Pleasure to meet you, sirs."

Though he frequently lived alone, Kio was a social 'giet by nature. His son Mulga hadn't quite inherited that trait, though he wasn't exactly anti-social--just shy. So it wasn't in Kio's makeup to turn down an invitation to a party, even if Mulga didn't always appreciate being carried with.
Still, it also wasn't in the easy-going adult's nature to be on time, or even necessarily prepared. He'd spent the night before capturing tiny prawns by his seaside home, tossing them onto big, hot rocks to steam. Mulga had assisted, even though Kio urged him to go to sleep--it wasn't necessarily a selfless motivation, either. Mulga was spending the trek inland to the valley napping on his father's back, while Kio carried the bundled prawns in his mouth.
The gathering at the base of the mountains was small, and Kio was relieved he wasn't late. From the way they were socializing, at least half of the four knew each other--but that was fine; Kio was never bad at introducing himself. He noted the spot for the food and gingerly set down his package, before crouching and depositing the napping cub on the ground. Mulga was still fast asleep, and Kio left him by the food to approach the group.
"Hullo!" he called cheerily. He noted the pastel-toned winged 'giet who'd notified him about the picnic in the first place and nodded his head in recognition. "Thank you for inviting us." He sat down heavily on his hind legs, grinning in anticipation of a good shindig.

((Sorry I vanished guys -forgive meee-)
"I know isnt it! I brought something wonderful for you this time ceres, its home made salsa, and spiced meat strips" chipotle said with a wide grin, he had enjoyed making the food, but he knew more then anything else he would enjoy sharing it. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well persephone" giving a slight bow of his head to the younger female, she was such a cute thing. "Lucky you having a proper apprentice, did you two decorate this entire place? It looks lovely, haha I cant wait until more show." Chipotle truly thought the idea of having a picnic at this time of year was wonderful. Before everything started to get truly cold and snowy outside.
"Nice tah meet you indeed Persephone, you have a cute apprentice Mrs Ceres.." ceres wasn't bad looking herself, but so far as cerval could tell, chipotle was totally crushing on her, it was too cute.
Just as the two had been setting up they noticed another pair come along, an older male and what appeared to be his cub..unless it was another apprentice?
