Halloween is a great time to freely express yourself by dressing up as anything you want, so don't settle for those uncreative and expensive Playboy costumes, make your own. Shop at thrift stores, dig through you parents' closet, draw/paint on clothes or sew it all yourself! It's fun (especially when you do it with family and friends) and fricken' cheap!! And if in the end it looks like crap, who cares it's Halloween!!

I have no time to make a costume, but if I have to dress up, and I usually don't, but then now I have a boyfriend and a baby social life, then I'll improvise something- like being a murdered person and smear my face with fake blood or something.

A quick sample of the Halloween costumes I made last year:

User Image

We looked hysterical and I made it all the day before. We bought the shields and helmets at the spirit store and the red velvet fabric from JoAnn's. Then we drew some abs and pecks on old leotards (which unfortunately you can't see), borrowed brown bikinis for the bottoms and made shin and arm guards out of grocery bags, gold paint and string.

For this year, I'm thinking of recycling the shield by being a Viking. Does anyone else know what they're going as for Halloween?

Awesome costumes. =D

I don't even know if I'm going to dress up this year.
I probably won't be doing anything other than watching horror movies all night.
Maybe I'll dress up still, for the heck of it. If I do, I'll post pics. I actually can't remember the last time I bought something for Halloween. My costumes usually consist of clothes and stuff that I already have.

I have a picture of a costume I threw together a few years ago, though...

I also had a dagger in one of my boots, unfortunately it's buried under skirts. It was never really decided whether I was a pirate, gypsy, or whatnot. XD
I did a flapper girl costume last year, but I have no good pictures of it.

Those look awesome 3IX!
I always make my own halloween costumes - and I'm really bad for leaving it to the last minute as well.
I was a sailor two years ago - and I made it all the night before- I didn't sleep- but it was worth it! You can't see them in the picture- but my roomate drew tatty's all over my arms and back.
And I made this fem-bot costume for a burlesque show last year. Not halloween but still a costume. I made it the night before as well- and I didn't finish the corset in time - so I ended up binding it with duct tape. Also- those leggings seem a lot more transparent in the picture(eek!)

I don't know what I'll be this year. Maybe I'll go for something a bit more gorey this year.

You're fem-bot is AMAZING!! What materials did you use?

I make my own too. Much much more fun.

Last year I was a alien and the year before I did Queen Gorgo although I have no good pictures of that for some reason. But it took 3 hours to do my hair biggrin . The year before that I did Little Dead Riding Hood although I am not wearing my boots.

This year I am either being water (with my friends as earth, air and fire) or spring, winter, or summer (fall claimed already). OR if they bail and I go on my own I am being cupid biggrin just cause I want to make my own bow and heart darts!

I hope to make something. I just bought a sewing machine, and I'm still trying to get used to it(broke 2 needles...) I already made the designs, I want to a fallen angel and I want to make a costume for my husband too, so that we can match. heart

It's all made of PVC. The corset is a bit wrinkly, because I didn't have time to put another boning channel in. The cones are PVC glued to crafters foam(the same stuff you use to make pasties.) I just attached them to a bra I had - and presto!

I love your little dead riding hood costume Sandree! I was little red riding hood before - kinda. Nobody got to see my costume because I had a bad allergic reaction and had to stay home for halloween. (But yours is better)

Agh! Please don't say that. We're studying Romani culture in my foreign lit. class, and we've been talking about all those stereotypes people have.
It does look like the stereotype of a "gypsy," but not like a Rom. razz

Sorry. D:

I have a feeling actual Romani people didn't dress quite like that.
Of course, if you look for Halloween costumes, you tend to find "gypsy" costumes that are of that nature.

Now I wonder where the stereotype came from. =o
