His hair, which he keeps long, appears black in most situations, but can be seen to be blue if the lighting is right. His natural hair color, however, was a light blond - much more common for his ethnicity. He changed it to the navy color because of his position as Vadrisian priest. Although the Vadrisian priests have little distinction from the normal ones of the religion, they are a direct bloodline whose male population are to become priests. These Vadrisian priests are to die their hair using a specific extract - a combination of various herbs and berries - so that they can be identified even outside of work. The exact extracts used are a secret kept amongst the priests' lineage, passed from one to another. This improves the legitimacy of the die, as commoners could not simply make the die themselves.
xxxValian's eyes are also rather unique for a Wisteran. Rather than the normal range of pale blues, greens, and hazels, Valian has what could be called little other than golden eyes. Though not vibrant like the eyes of the Kes'sarrians, they have a shining undertone to them, albeit a pale overlay. These, too, are a mark of a Vadrisian priest, though there is no die that causes this to occur. The golden eyes of the Vadrisian's are a recessive trait, but is a necessity, according to their law, in order to claim the position of priest. Because of this, Vadrisian priests have become exceedingly rare, with Valian as one of the last. Any priest who claims to be of a Vadrisian lineage would be put to death if they did not have the golden eyes of the Vadrisians, even if they truly were of the lineage.
xxxValian normally wears the same type of outfit - the typical uniform of a Vadrisian priest. The top consists of a white, sleeveless shirt, form fitting to his body. His leggings are similar, though a dark gray instead of white.Around his waist is a half-robe of sorts, white and silky, with a more rigid blue material around it. Much of the rest of the outfit are ornaments passed down from generation to generation. The black gloves, the gauntlet, the foot guards, the cross around his neck, and the sword are all relics passed down from his ancestors. The sword is not used in combat, as it is not only dull, but would break easily as well.xxxxxxxxxx→Weapon ▫ ▫ ▫ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThe Tools of the Trade xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxLight scrolls for more complex offensive and defensive spells. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxInscribed relics for simple, more common spells. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxA smooth, oak staff for more complex healing spells.•●•The Inside is What Counts•●•xxxxxxxxxx→Relationship Status ▫ ▫ ▫ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxAlways on the Mind... xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxSingle, though contrary to popular belief, Vadrisian priests are allowed to have partners.xxxxxxxxxx→Personality ▫ ▫ ▫ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThe Demon Within xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx•Part One•
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxJustice-bound
The primary personality that houses Valian's body is that of an overly-devoted priest, taking justice to the extreme. His own warped viewpoints of what is and what is not justice guide him into making sometimes rash decisions, though he deems them justifiable. Though his definition of the term "justice" would be considered hazy at best, he sticks to his beliefs strongly. Valian believes that the government is unjust and, therefore, must be destroyed, as it has sunk too far to be worthy of salvation. Anyone who stands in his way, too, is unjust, as they are "working towards the destruction of mankind."
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxIntelligent
Though Valian may seem to have a few bolts loose, his actual intelligence is quite high. He is well versed in the layout of the land, in the dealings of the government, and about the basic logistics of the world around him. Valian is also fluent in several languages, generally easing communication. He is difficult to deceive, but will often go along with a trick only to turn it against the person attempting to use him. Over time, he has learned to be manipulative of others, though he prefers to have their consent in doing things.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxEloquent
One of the first things that anyone who meets Valian would immediately recognize is his eloquence in behavior and speech. Although what he says or does may not be eloquent, the manner in which he does them almost always is. He has a certain air of nobility in him that sometimes can get to the point of narcissism. Everything he does has a certain grace to it, making him look very versed in whatever he is doing, even if it is his first time doing it.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx•Part Two•
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxSadistic
Valians other personality, the one that usually resides beneath the surface, is much more cruel and sadistic than its counter part. Rather than relying solely on justice to back his decisions, this Valian will attack both people and their ideas solely for the sake of doing so. That isn't to say that he'll attack his friends - he still recognizes people that he's close to and works with, but he will branch out further from his norms and work more viciously than he would under his other persona.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxRash
Under his alternate personality, Valian will make decisions much more quickly and with less thought than he normally would. He acts out of instinct and desire, with or without the same eloquence that he normally carries himself with. This state causes him to lose much of his self control and decision making abilities, sometimes getting him into sticky situations, but it also helps him out of these same situations at times. Sometimes it's better to think less and act more than to do the opposite. xxxxxxxxxx→History ▫ ▫ ▫ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxA Vicious Circle xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxValian's childhood was relatively normal when compared to others. He was raised to follow his father's profession, versed in religious scripture and ceremony. Ever since he started his education, he always took things very seriously, studied hard, and practiced vigorously. However, there seemed something amiss about the boy every now and then. He would have sudden fits of anger and spout out his ideals - those that were in disagreement with the ones he was being taught. Though rare, his parents were concerned about this, so began to investigate the cause. When he was about seven years old, they finally figured it out: he had two personalities coexisting and fighting to be a single persona.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxWhile his main personality was obedient and constantly looked out for the well-being of others, the other was a free spirit of sorts. This second personality always did what he wanted to do, not what others told him. He also had different views on the world - that it was corrupted and that mankind did not deserve to live. Needless to say, this second personality disturbed his parents, so they went to a prestigious Cleric to remove the other personality. Whether fortunate or unfortunate, it was found that the alter persona could not be removed, but simply contained. With no other options, Valian's parents agreed to this. In just a day, Valian returned to the well-mannered boy that they had started to see less and less frequently.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxYears passed and this alternate persona was forgotten over time. When he was sixteen, Valian became a Vadrisian priest himself. His father had grown old and had passed down the title to his son. Valian did his duties as priest well, but he felt changes in his body as time moved on. He started to become irritated at what the people were telling him: the government took too much of this mans crops, the law forbid this woman from doing what she wanted. The government always seemed to be getting in the way. He did not express any of these feelings, though, but instead recited the verses he had memorized as a child - consoling those that came to them and settling their doubts. Valian did not approach his father about these concerns, as he thought them normal. Little did he know that it was actually his second persona creeping back into his life that was causing the thoughts to surface.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxWhen Valian was eighteen, his father died, leaving him to be the priest by himself. No questions could be asked to his elders, no aid when he was confused - everything was on him. Meanwhile, his alternate persona continued to nudge its way back into his life. Little by little, his original personality was not overtaken, but was warped into something in between the two. There was no day when he suddenly snapped; it was too gradual for that. Instead, he simply grew angrier with the state of things, believing that the only salvation for humanity was its own judgment. Although this changing of his personality was much more similar to his second persona, it was not the same. The personalities had not morphed together, but instead, the second persona had seeped into the first persona while still remaining whole itself. Where Valian had once held reins on both ends of the spectrum, he ended up with a critical, but more moderate personality, and a radical and maybe even slightly insane one as well.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxHe finally reached a point when he could tolerate it no longer. Something had to be done. Temporarily closing the Church that had been established by his family, he set off under the light of judgment. Even with his meager abilities, he would find a way - he had to. The gods would not abandon his enlightened journey, they would be his power. Without a plan, but with high resolve, Valian left his life behind him in search of a greater calling. He would rain fire on both the corrupt government and on anyone who got in his way. This was truly the path of the gods. xxxxxx
