The commonly accepted version of elemental practice is that of Earth, Air, Fire and Water or Earth, Air, Fire,Water, and Spirit. However there is another concept from Celtic tradition where by the elements are Sky, Sea and Land.

I personally identify more with Sky, Sea and Land. I have always had difficulty connecting to fire. Additionally, fire or flame is not really a naturally occurring thing, heat is. Since the most common heat comes from the sun, which to us here on earth is perceived as being part of the sky it is covered, as is the magma/lava that is generated in the center of the earth as being part of land, hot springs would fall in with water.
I realize this isn't for everyone, my sister would be lost without her flames of fire. Though it is variation to be aware of if you work with others or have trouble with the traditional elemental construct.

Personally, I respect each view definitely, but identify more with the traditional elements.

I've always found the perspective of Sky, Sea, and Land particularly enticing. Much as your sister with fire though, I feel as though I would surely be lost without air.
