I am only familiar with two passages in the Bible mentioning cutting. The first being Levitican Law (which I know the majority of the guild's population disregards) and the second being the demon-possessed man cutting himself with stones.
((Random questoin...how sharp were these rocks, and how did they get that way???))
And then there's one I also forgot about...The verse where it says to not do stuff to you body which is God's temple.
But overall, the issue of self-harming is not specifically banned in the NT. Any thoughts or opinions?

I use to cut myself, and several of my friends also have done so and still do... then I use to scratch instead, since that didn't leave scars (well, a very very light one on the top of my left wrist, aka the side that faces you while typing) But I don't hurt myself anyone, don't want to, don't feel the need to. No one really knew while I was doing it, so it certainly was not for attention. I don't think it's a sin... I think God is sad when he sees we feel we have to lash out in order to stand emotional stress, but I don't think he holds it against us as a sin.... especially if you are in deep pain. I personally would never suggest it to anyone, but if you are at a point like I was where it was that or being more suicidal, and no one will help you, it's better to do that than be at risk of losing your life. ((aka no wrists or ankles people))

I used to do it, too. I was never given any valid scriptural reason to not do it. The only reason I got was, "It's bad for you." That kinda irked me, but my friends eventually guilt tripped me enough to not want to do it. The next Sunday in church, I prayed that God take it from me. I still get the urge to do it, and I find myself buying little packages of razor blades, but I always lose them and I end up never cutting anyways.

The ONLY reason for self harm is to make a statement and say things that you are usually too afraid to say. After you are done though, you are typically too ashamed to show the scars of what you have done to yourself to anyone, and so then you have to cover up the statement that you were so persistent to make a little while ago. To do self harm is to let the influence of Christ not work in you. Satan wants to destroy your mortal body because he himself is not able to receive one. I know several people that wanted to just make a little bit deeper of a scar, make a little bit better of one, but then found out that they hit an artery and bled to death. It's a tactic that Satan has found most effective in these latter days.

Have you found yourself cutting in the late hours of the night?

Imitation Stradivarius Have you found yourself cutting in the late hours of the night? No, I know a lot of people who have, and helped them get through it, but I never cut myself. I had other vices in high school that I released with.

Then please don't assume that the reason behind your friends' self mutilation is the same as mine. I feel insulted. I harmed myself so I wouldn't harm others, not because I wanted to voice a silent opinion. I was not, and am not that passive.
I agree with you about self mutilation not letting Jesus work in someone. It's idolatry.

I won't assume why any one does one thing or another. Cutting and self harm are a very touchy subject for me...I'm not going to disclose my whole life's story on a internet forum, but from my obeservations, people usually cut because they're angry and need a release, they want to make some sort of silent confession, idolatry, they don't want harm others, etc. But it's still one of those unneccessary things that people do to themselves...

You weren't doing it so that you wouldn't harm others. I'm sorry but you are trying to make your act more chivalrous than it really is. It is not an act of bravery that you mutilated your arms. It is an act of selfish desire. The desire to show the immense pain that you supposedly feel in an outward expression. And this is an internet debate site, you posted it, I'm providing the insight.

Angel of the End Cutting shows a will to live, not a wish to die. I don't really agree with that, because every one I've ever seen cut, did and tried to go deep enough to end their life.

I'm sorry... everyone please forgive me. There are people out there who truely know hell and how bad things can get... let's just thank God things are not that bad for us, and help people, everyone, even those who we feel truely do not know pain or suffering... Different people have different limits, we just need to try to help them and pray for them.
