Post whatever you think about this topic, where it is concerning religion. ((Didn't see another thread about this)) Some guidlines for you expressing your thoughts and feelings on this are: What do you think a goth is? - Is being alternative bad? - Can goths be Christian?/What does being black clad and being a Christian mean? - Why do you think these are so commonly associated with Satanisim and the Occult, or do you personally think they are directly related? - Do you have any friends as such, or as you as such? - Does wearing alot of black equal darkness? - Is black/darkness and evil the same thing? - Do you have any questions about alternative lifestyles/fashion and how it relates to religion? - What do your parents/relatives think about goths, emos, and other more black clad alternatives in general?
Also, Hey Guys! I have a camcorder! So I can respond to your questions via video if you ask

Quote: What do you think a goth is? It's just a title given to people who wear a lot of black...at least that's what I've noticed. Quote: - Is being alternative bad? Nope Quote: - Can goths be Christian?/What does being black clad and being a Christian mean? Of course they can. Any one can be Christian. And wearing a lot of black means nothing about what is on the inside. I wear a lot of black because it's one of my favourite colors. Doesn't make any one a bad person. Quote: - Why do you think these are so commonly associated with Satanisim and the Occult, or do you personally think they are directly related? Some times I think it's part of a stereotype that people have put on others. And well from my observations I've seen a lot of people dressed as "goth" practicing the occult. But then again I've seen a lot of people who aren't dressed that way practicing it too Quote: - Do you have any friends as such, or as you as such? Yes. I used to be considered "goth" when I was in high school, but I was also considered emo confused Quote: - Does wearing alot of black equal darkness? No Quote: - Is black/darkness and evil the same thing? Depends on the context they are being used in Quote: - Do you have any questions about alternative lifestyles/fashion and how it relates to religion? Not at the moment Quote: - What do your parents/relatives think about goths, emos, and other more black clad alternatives in general? My dad thinks they're weird and need help. He also says they dress the way they do for attention. My mom thinks about the same thing.

Hmm, that's interesting. Of course, people, or anything, that looks a certain way that is out of the more general public of a certain area, will attract attention. Like a splotch of ink on a painting (in painting class, while signing my name, that happened once... sweatdrop It's no fun to try to cover up black ink on a watercolor still-life, I'll tell you that much). However, you might agree (or not, your choice dear ^^) that alot of people just look a certain way because they like it. Some people like tattoos, some like pink, some like piercings. -shrugs shoulders-
What do you think caused your parents to form the views they have?

I agree with you about the fact that people just dress in what ever way they want and feel comfortable with. I think my dad gained his outlook on those types of people because he has always associated black with being bad. Also he used to be a cop/ S.R.O (school resource officer) and he said the kids that were usually causing trouble the most were the "goths" My mom just doesn't think it's a good way to dress. She would never feel comfortable dressing in all black, with the TRIPP pants etc. So I think she just assumes every one else should feel it's dumb...*shurgs* Idk...

That's odd.... considering me and all my friends get good grades and don't cause trouble. And just because someone wears black does not make them a goth (he might be a bit confused). Also, goths and emos especially get picked on alot, and if they decided to snap back with a witty comment or something more in reaction to being targeted by some of the bullies, it's no wonder it would make a bigger scene than other similar incidents... I've had friends who have had that happened to. Other than that, it's usually the douche punk "goths" with the anarchy symbol drawn on their arm or backpack that cause the issues... So does she think saris are odd to wear, also? ^^ That's just funny to me. You know, alot of people think like that... but really, what they don't realize, is that another person or group is thinking the same thing about them. ((And the traditional color of mourning in most the world is white ^^ and think of how many people in cities like New York or Tokyo wear all black! Buisness people, especially... you know those bad trouble making buisness people XD In the Victorian Era, it would of not been out of place at all to have a black color themed wedding even, however, the actual traditional color for a wedding gown is red. So also, are people attending cocktail parties in black dresses depressed or "bad"? That is also funny and very amusing ^^ lol ))

I'm going to a southern Baptist leadership conference and one of the guidelines is, "No extreme clothing." I'm taking this to mean that I cannot wear my tripp shorts to the thing. (Skimpy is way off my menu lol)
Goth is a great thing. When I go to new churches "All gothed out", they think I need Jesus, but I end up knowing more about the Bible than them. It's great!

@ Angel- My mom still wears black, and so does my dad, but they don't do it in the "extreme" like goths would. What with the TRIPP Pants, the leather studded belts, spiked bracelets, whatever kids these days are wearing...lol I haven't been in school for over three years now, so I'm out of touch with the latest fashions. I've kept pretty much the same fashion since middle school...some might call me and Avril Lavigne wanna be, but I don't think so...I just dress in whatever is comfortable. And hey, I used to wear TRIPP Pants...stopped wearing because it's hard to wear chains with a baby crawling all over, and I just didn't feel comfortable in them. So I will stick with my jeans and t-shirts. I guess when I was in school I fell under the catergorization of "punk", "emo", and some times "goth"
@Imititation- Skimpy clothing? I can't stand to see girls walking around with short shorts, short skirts, tight shirts, etc. It's kind of offending to me. But if I see some one walking around in say TRIPP pants and a t-shirt, doesn't bother me all that much

Imitation Stradivarius I'm going to a southern Baptist leadership conference and one of the guidelines is, "No extreme clothing." I'm taking this to mean that I cannot wear my tripp shorts to the thing. (Skimpy is way off my menu lol) Goth is a great thing. When I go to new churches "All gothed out", they think I need Jesus, but I end up knowing more about the Bible than them. It's great! Honestly.... the exact same thing happens to me. as for the "no extreme clothing", what could they mean? I mean, it depends on the person. If it's something you wear daily, I say you go ahead and wear it. What will they do? Toss holy water on you and kick you out for wearing a certain brand of clothing...? I hate mini-skirts and white shirts, due to that you can see undergarments through them... as long as something is not slutty, I think it should be alright.... besides, Jesus says not to take on the appearence of evil: since black and chains are easily debatable (I mean, come on, what is the real honest difference between wearing a chain on your neck to on your pants?), where as dressing in a skirt so short someone could take you from behind if you bent over.... well, that is just plain obvious. Same with short-shorts, or anything that shows too much skin. ((Also, the style never really changes.... there are hundreds of subclassifications of goth, inluding lolita, cyber, industrial, punk, victorian, aristocrat, and even a more rococo and a more "death rock" style....and yes, actually, for example, there is a more "gothic" band that is halloween/horror movie themed called Candy Spooky Theater.))

@ Imitation: Maybe this is a good chance for you, or God is planning to use you... he has used me several times to break down social barries with both goths, Christians, and everyone in between. "Some will find light best in darkness", that's how it is for me. Also, you could affect several other people's lives... maybe those "freeky kids" they didn't want anything to do with before, now they won't find it so scary to go up and just talk with them, and who knows, maybe a chain-effect will start of good things. Just by talking with people, showing you are a Christian and you are kind, you can break down several misconceptions without even having to use the words, "black, tripp, alternative, emo, punk, goth, hot topic, hard rock, metal, ext..." ((which honestly, I don't like hot topic in general... you can find some good things there, but usually.... er, like I said))

I have no problem with people that dress in extreme clothing. I won't do it myself personally, just because I look at it as "would you want Jesus to see you if He came right now?" "Or do you feel that that clothing would some how make you feel ashamed to stand before Christ right now?" That was and is my concern with the clothing that I wear. I think many other individuals would also do well to remember that too.

I agree, however, for the majority, I just do not feel he would see a black clad any differently. Quote: "For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord, looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7

Christ, in such circumstances, only cares if you care. Would you go to church in tripp pants, chains, Anarchy shirt, knee high boots, and the like? And if you wouldn't, then should you be wearing any of that any other time?

I wear my black knee-length boots, because they cover the leg and show more modesty when wearing a skirt slightly above the knee, and under long skirts in winter. Second, I am a libertarian: not into Anarchy. And I have never, ever seen a goth with an Anarchy symbol on any part of their body (your confusing us with punks, ICP, and mall rats) Thrid, Tripps? Are you kidding me... you are really, really over generalizing us. Mainly ICP fans wear those, and ICP people, no offense, are certainly not my cup of tea. Must I tell you how most of us really dress? Corsets, blouses, ankle-length skirts, knee-length skirts, lace, frills. Or black jeans and a black shirt for those who really dress down, usually guys. When I dress down, I just wear a black summer dress with fishnets, mary janes, and a few items of jewerly. And for your first question? No. Omgth, I hate that mall rat style of dress.... If I must be a rat, I'll be a plague rat, thank you very much.... not one of the followers of the hot topic cult rolleyes
