((Yes, I do dare to speak in third person. Deal with it!))
Lirel let herself be dragged by her cat-like friend, her interest peaking despite herself. Although she never saw the point in owning any pet in Gaia's user-run stores, a freebie should never be scowled upon. And Roar was happy to give her one indeed, nearly purring with pleasure to share her beloved experience with her favorite shop.
The blue-haired girl smiled to herself. They were truly night and day, sometimes. The commonality was only that they were both cat-girls, but even then, Roar flaunted it while Lirel mostly-kinda-did hide it. She supposed that was what drew her to the blond; her loud-mouth, obnoxious behavior and uncaring attitude. Roar did what she wanted and didn't blink at what the world thought of it. Of course, in the long run it gets her in trouble, but her loyalty was unquestionable. Sometimes Lirel wished she was more like her.

They were walking down a relatively worn path away from Durem. She loved the town and always choose it as a team when Gaia hosted town battle events. This shop was definitely getting brownie points for setting up close.
But- what was that?!
A huge fox darted up to Roar and nuzzled her hand while Roar greeted it, delighted. Lirel pulled a blue lock away from her eyes, transfixed with the four-foot high creature. It's huge!
Roar finally introduced them, though it seemed odd how she spoke to "Kappy" as if it - "she" - could understand. Deep brown around it's - her - mane and tail, both were fluffed up and obviously cared for. It's -her- lighter chocolate body and head seemed more like a wolf than a fox, and- what's up with those ears?
Kappy's chocolate eyes were unnerving. Perhaps Lirel could believe the creature was intelligent. Roar was explaining lots of stuff but the girl didn't pay much heed. She was much more interested in the beauty standing before her. Beauty? Pah. I've seen better... she lied to herself.

It felt odd standing between a cat-girl and a... Koivu... with at least one of them obviously arguing with the other. Lirel cast a glance around, making certain they were alone. Geez, this is weird.
The shop occupied the corner of the road turn-off, not new but certainly not old. She liked the sign, "The Black Forest." It immediately made her think of her favorite ham, which shared the name. She glanced over at Roar, who was laughing at whatever Kappy said, but didn't share the joke. Would she become like that?
Movement caught her eye. Another Koivu dashed behind the shop. Perhaps not all of them were tamed? Roar hauled her inside before she could protest.
It was a cozier place than she expected. "Do humans live here as well?" Lirel asked while checking for dust with a finger. Roar nodded and began on a tirade about the owners, Riftwing and Nurse Trixie, and all the other costumers who visited.

She felt a smile bubble up as Roar paced around telling old, funny stories. No wonder Roar likes this place! She took a spot on the rugged couch, picking at loose threads puppy teeth had gnawed at. I wonder how my little Koivu would act...
The cat girl took a seat beside her, mindful of her tail, and handed her a picture. One Koivu stood over another who was feeding three small newborns.
"He's Yuki's Solar Flare, she's my Icy, and one of three who could be yours," she told Lirel.
"I'd kinda like the brown one...." Lirel murmured, gazing at the pic.
"Or really? I pegged you down for the blue and yellow." Roar started to fumble with adoption papers and an inkless pen. A faint growl began to turn real.
Lirel shrugged. "The blue one's fine too." But I thought you'd like it more. She bemusedly watched Roar pull out other pens until one worked. ". . . We should name her fish."
That earned her a laugh. "No, give her a real name!"
"Not salmon?"
A glare answered her. "Okay, okay." Lirel paused, running through all the names she made and liked. "How about Isha?"
Roar frowned at the spelling, but soon finished the paperwork and had mailed it up and put it on the counter. "Rifty will see it there," she spoke, then hugged her. "I'm glad you're joining."

It was days later when Lirel returned to the shop, this time alone. She wasn't quite sure why she was there, other than perhaps just to look. Her blue hair was salon-styled earlier in quick swish of a wildflower-style, and make-up actually brightened her face - and it was a rare day when that happened. But nothing real special was supposed to happen that day... except she really wanted to see the BF shop.
Koivu entered and left at will, which surprised her, but they did have equal intelligence. Hesitating without a friend to drag her in, Lirel knocked on the door before slowly opening it. It didn't creak.
The Koivu inside glanced at her, most dismissing her immediately, except for one brown head-to-toe female. "Kappy?" the girl asked, squatting down and reaching out a hand. The Koivu butted her head the offered hand and closed her eyes when she scratched.
"Why, hello there," a male voice spoke while movement occurred near the backdoor.
Lirel started, looking guiltily at the new Koivu who entered before turning toward the speaker. Dragon horns spread out from his short green hair, and his clothing was neither expensive nor cheap. His green eyes (which could have mirrored her own then) held a questioning look.
"Uh-um, h-hello," she managed, not-quite-hiding behind Kappy. His smile was pleasant, but she wasn't very trusting. Making some mumbled excuse, she escaped the shop in a hurry. Damn, don't be shy 'round the owner, Lirel! she berated herself as she fast-walked back toward Durem. A vain thought she quickly squished was at least he saw me at my best.

It was a few more times that she returned, but never did she step foot in the shop. Strolling along the path and forest edge, she'd watch the Koivu and sometimes they'd watch her, and she'd more along. Several times she spotted Solar Flare or "Jaz," but both would growl when she drew near. Her half-hearted attempt to get a peek on her poof led nowhere. Eventually she stopped looking. * * * Life moved on quickly. Shopping and role playing took most of her time, and when she saw Roar (very infrequently), they talked of other things. Her ownership over one small poof dwindled down to a small responsibility, but like a skeleton in the closet, she never really forgot about it.

Isha streeetched after a really nice nap. The sun so warm, the grass so soft, she couldn't want to do anything other than soak it up. Soft breathing near her brought safety and security in her heart; her father, Solar Flare, lay enjoying the day too. His smaller reflection (her meek brother) was curled on papa's tail.
But today she would let that slide. The energy it would require to get up and tease Hinata while trying not to draw attention from their father just seemed too extensive for just now. Teasing, playing and the rest of her narrow life could wait: paradise was already blanketing this small part of her world and nothing could change it for the moment. Enjoy. The slow, honey pleasure of the moment.

Her mailbox was full, which was a surprise; she hadn't been replying to anyone lately. Inside was the dreaded letter from the Black Forest shop: a warning from Trixie. Immediately she felt bad for all those weeks she hadn't once stepped foot back in Koivu territory.
She immediately started for the shop but when it came into view, her nerves kicked in. Can I really own a Koivu? What if it eats everything in the house when I bring it home? Do I bring them home? How does a cat girl look after a fox-dog creature? Perhaps I'm not up to this...
Slowing to a snail's pace, she gazed at the Koivu inhabiting the area. They looked pretty self-contained, -reliant, and -important. Did they really need "owners" to look after them?
It was only by her sense of duty that she care for the Koivu she said she would take care of that had her reach the Black Forest's door and not turn right back around. This poof needed her attention, for whatever reason, and she'd give it that and more if need be.
But as her hand raised to knock she heard a familiar voice inside...

There. The Bigfoot again. It's blue hair looked nothing like a mane, nor did it cover it's entire body; only the top part of it's head. This Bigfoot liked wearing odd clothes; one day dressed in high fashion, the next a cheap Halloween costume that changes later in the day to too much... stuff.
Isha rolled over in her hiding spot, careful to keep her fluffy lemon tail inside the bush. She was bored, and all bored spies should keep careful track of their surroundings. And it appeared her state would soon be relieved: this certain Bigfoot looked like trouble rarely bothered her. And that could mean much fun for this poof.
Dark cat-like ears flick. Inside the shop, the voices were unending, but it appeared this Bigfoot wanted to listen. It should step inside so it's weak Bigfoot ears could hear better. Bigfoots. They take such odd actions when easier ones could be applied.

Roar! What's she doing here?! she thought frantically. But of course, she is a customer here too... Uncertain whether to enter or not, she couldn't help but hear through the door...
"Yeah, I don't know why she's afraid of you guys, but she just needs a good kick in the pants..."
Lirel hoped her blush wasn't too bright as she barged in the door. "I am not afraid!" sprang the words before her mind caught up. "You don't have to label me a scardy cat...!"
"Oh! Then, why don't you mingle, hmm?" she purred, quickly getting over her surprise. Her spotted yellow tail swished between the chair legs her paw/feet were entangled in. Fancy purple clothes and movie-star glasses; she looked high class and acted so.
Lifting her chin and displaying a smile, she confronted the customers and owner with (hopefully) a nice impression.

Isha nips at Lirel's heels with puppy-sharp teeth.
"Hey! I'm trying to explain how I got you!" The cat girl jumps to the safety of a chair, tail swinging high out of reach.
I'm the hero here!> The poof literally thought aloud as she growled as menacing as a small fluffball can. my name in the title, and I can explain myself!>
Lirel grabs a piece of roast beef and dangles a bit size morsel above the Koivu's nose. "It doesn't say your name, it just describes you (it's my name in the title >___>). Now let me just finish up my start while you finish this off, neh?"
Her eyes grew until they looked like sunny-side up eggs on a dark blue furry platter. Without waiting or warning, she sprang and tried to steal it, fingers, meat and all, but Lirel possessed quick reflexes too.
"You'll not tell Sol or your mother, right? Then you may have at it." The roast beef dropped into an open mouth without an answer. Happy for the moment, Isha dashed off to enjoy her bounty in secret. The cat girl sighed, then tapped her cheek. "Where was I?"

"CRAP!" Sharp baby teeth latched into her white pantleg in her attempt to step down. Raising her leg, Lirel gazed down at the small black poof attached. "If you wanted some too, you could have spoken up."
Red eyes glower at her in the midst of black fuzz, not blinking, not responding in any way. Just watched the "Bigfoot" talk to itself with it's peculiar flat face moving pink lips. Wait, and things will come. That is what his friend, his bestest friend taught him.
Sighing defeat, Lirel grabbed another piece of meat and waved it on the other side of the chair. As hoped, the black poof detached itself to scuttle for it. "Alright... and you can't tell anyone about this either." It was like speaking to a brick. A furry, black and flame-pawed brick.
Following Isha's example, Blitz raced out of the room, out of sight from any preaching adults.
". . . Well, it's certainly more... challenging with two kitlings," Lirel murmurs to herself, watching the red tail disappear.

Earth familiar and bonded to Blitz, Sibz trotted over to the black poof lookalike. What is he was eating... A closer look and Sibz reared back, tossing his head at the scent of meat and making a noise deep in his throat. No, no, no!
Aware of his presence, Blitz turned a shoulder toward his friend and tried to gulp down the rest quick as possible. He didn't want to upset him too much, and his friend didn't like anything not from a plant.
Sibz shook his head from side to side. He didn't like it when his Koivu friend ate such things. It was awful, and sad. Didn't he know that yet? But, unable to express feelings and words until their bond grew stronger, Sibz had to make do with gestures, and those didn't get the point across enough. Please stop eating flesh and blood! It's not good for the spirit! The poof just licked his omnivore teeth with a slightly guilty face. Sibz gave a soft snort. Blitz....

Isha's lithe form pounced on the the black poof and they rolled, their kit fluff flying everywhere. Her mock growls were answered by his and then she was racing off with him nipping at her tail. Lhai strolled up to Sibz, her lighter coloring making her the light of his flames in the darkness of his coat. She was glad another Earth Familiar was here from her herd; she hadn't wanted to leave the deep forest alone. But when she had met the star-gazing childling, she knew she had to follow.Sibz brushed his nose against her horns as a calming gesture. He had been a little afraid too. But they were together with their bonded, and that was all that really mattered. <We can always visit home.>Both startled as a blue poof nearly tumbled into them. Isha pleaded, but her mind voice was cheerful. Blitz, behind her, had a mouthful of yellow tail and was trying to make it a squeaky toy. Lhai sent Sibz an amused thought, then reared and pawed the air over Blitz. The young Koivu squawked and fled laughing as she chased him, Isha by her side. He circled around and raced for Sibz, who made a daring rush at his pursuers. They split and mock-attacked him, but his momentum carried him on. Then Blitz was leaping at Lhia and Isha was on Sibz's heels and soon there was only blurs and mind-laughter as they played.
