Is there a doctor in the house?
Rank: Two
Antagonist: Doctor Scalpel
NPC Accompaniment: No
Souls available: User Image
Mission: SUCCESS/FAILURE

The hospital was quiet with the peace that could only arrive in a place so full of death. The current floor was filled with nurses walking by in white uniforms so starched and pressed they resembled cut out paper dolls in proper finery. A hush filled the air, a respectful hush punctuated only by the gentle opening and closing of doors and doctors and nurses went about their business.

It was nearing one am, and the lull that filled the floor was one of habit. This was not the emergency ward to have the activity and excitement bought in by the sudden prospect of death. This was not the intensive care ward to have lives hanging barely by the thread. If it a floor could be called normal, this was it. This was a normal hospital floor with lives that had so far been given a respite by death.

So far.

"Think this one will be harder?"

The question came as the pair walked casually side by side down the long, sterile hallways of the hospital. Nurses scurried around them in white uniforms, most paying them no heed though a few did the usual double-take upon seeing the two. Z could feel his partner's amusement at the attention, though for himself, he merely found it annoying.

"It better be, or else I'm going to drop this whole official-mission crap altogether. Or figure out a way to get our hands on the rank 3 missions." Neither of them had been much impressed by their first rank 2 target, but Z felt more keenly about the situation than his technician counterpart. Where the <********> was the supposed thrill and challenge?

A soft chuckle from Lucien was his only answer as they continued their assessment of the area. The doctor was suspected of operating out of this hospital, as the deaths had been traced back here. But so far, there was no sign of their target, or that anything was amiss.

A slim, dark haired doctor stepped out of one of the rooms, holding a clip board with a look of distracted concern. She paused as she looked down, shaking her head with a look of almost circumspect sadness as she walked away from the room. Perhaps the patient was not recovering as quickly. Perhaps he was not recovering enough. Closing the door gently behind her, she walked away, pausing for a moment to glance up at the technician and weapon pairing.

With a slight heat of female appreciation warming her eyes, she walked away, past them and towards the back stairs of the floor.

About the same time she passed the weapon and technician pairing, one of the nurses walked into the very room she had left, leaving the door open as she did her rounds.

And then, the alarms went off. The nurses were too well trained to scream in such an environment: it would not do to aggravate the other patients. But a cry of 'code blue!' was heard as others began to rush into the room to help.

Lucien paused, stopping to admire the backside of one sexy lady doctor as she walked past. He'd noticed the heat in her eyes as she'd glanced over them, and liked to think that it was aimed more at himself than at Z, who was now rolling his eyes at his interest. "She's hot." Mentally, Lucien made a note to look up the slim doctor after they'd accomplished their mission - girls usually liked the whole hero thing, and he wasn't averse to a bit of pleasant time wasting after work.

The cry shook Lucien out of his reverie, and he could feel Z tensing beside him as the nurses began to hurry towards the room just ahead. Without a word, Z turned swiftly, headed in the direction of the back stairs that the slim doctor had just disappeared into. "Wha.." Lucien began, tossing a glance but quickly followed, conceding that Z probably had the right idea. Looking at a dead body wouldn't do them much good.

"That 'hot' doctor could be the one, you know." Z's voice was a mixture of sarcastic amusement and excitement as the thrill of finally doing something rushed headily through his veins.

Lucien frowned, though it was more to mask the slight increase in attraction he felt towards the slim doctor at the thought that she may be capable of murder. "That would definitely add a little... excitement to this mission," was all he said out loud, though the sideways glance he received from Z as he yanked open the doorway to the stairs indicated his partner had read at least some of his hidden thoughts.

The pair's features smoothed back into respective poses of relaxation, showing no outward sign of agitation as they glanced up and down the staircase, listening for any signs of movement. They weren't yet sure that the doctor was actually their target, though perhaps she was a lead.. and they didn't want to betray anything too early.

It was a soft rasp of fabric and a flash of white as the doctor moved up the stairs towards the roof exit. A steady clip of heels against the surface of the floor, and a touch of dark as she swung a corner and moved up. There was no speed to her action, no sense of hurry. It was sedate, relaxed even, as if nothing bad had happened. In fact, it was almost excusable. After all, if she was just a normal doctor, it would make sense: how could she know that her patient was dying in the very room she had just left? A fluke, that's all.

She reached for a set of keys she had to unlock the roof top terrace. See? She was just a normal doctor, taking a break by looking for a breath of fresh air. She didn't seem to notice that anyone else had entered the stairs with her.

Something beeped then, a small tinny sound. The doctor pulled out her pager and stared down at it for a moment, as if deciphering the code written in medical short hand. She looked behind her, back down the stairs, as if hesitating.

And then she smiled.

If anything, it would be the smile that would give her away. It would be the slight tilt of her lips in pure satisfaction as she recognized the code. Her victim would be suffering from a heart attack right this second, and there would be nothing the nurses could do to stop it. By the time they realized the cause, he could be dead and twitching with the last aftershocks of the drug. No one would suspect her, and by the time they did... well. She'd have moved on to another hospital.

Nothing was amiss. They could both hear the steady steps of the doctor as she headed up, ever up, towards what Z assumed was the rooftop, but there was no rush in the footsteps, no sense of urgency. He was about to consider they abandon this particular potential lead when the doctor's pager beeped. She had been the last to leave the room, and she was being alerted to the situation now. But there was no quick rush back down the stairs, no desperate movement to attempt to preserve a life.

That incongruity was enough for Z, who lived based on his intuition and wits rather than solid facts. Jerking his head upwards, he placed his foot on the first step, waiting for Lucien to follow suit before they both jogged up the flights of stairs.

Lucien understood Z's motion, but he added an elaborate twist to their game of chase as he, too, began up the stairs. There was no way to be sure if the doctor was really their target, or even if she had a clue for them, but it couldn't hurt if she had no idea what they were up to until the last minute. Their footfalls were rushed - there would be no mistaking it - but perhaps they could confuse the reason for it with conversation. Nudging Z slightly, he began, "Damn, that lady doctor was absolutely stunning. Wonder if we'll be able to find her again after visiting our friend?"

"Maybe, but that's only if we can find Ves in the first place." The name was pulled out of thin air, Z understanding their need for camouflage and going with it. They were now only one flight of stairs away from the roof, though, and the guise of visiting a patient didn't quite explain why they would be headed that far up. "Hey, think there's a roof or something up there?"

A mocking snort from Lucien as they continued the charade, sticking as close to truth as possible. "I will never understand you and your obsession with rooftops, but probably." A moment of silence, as they shared a glance. "You're gonna say Ves can wait, aren't ********, yeah." Especially since Ves didn't even exist, Z added silently as he finally reached the top to find the doctor heading out the door to the roof with a smile on her face that chilled his blood. It actually took a bit of effort, but his voice remained light as he called behind him, "Hey, Lucien. It's the doctor you wanted to look up."

Her hand stilled at the door as she heard the voices behind her. The rush of footsteps at been a warning, but the conversation was so casual, so light hearted... she smirked to herself as she used her access code on the door. No, they were simple mindless fools lost on the stairs, looking for a good looking woman. Although the boy had been attractive... young, but attractive. It was not as if she had qualms about the age of her lovers, and before they caught her, before she was suspected of the murder, maybe she had time for a little bit of fun. It would be days, or if she was lucky, maybe a week. After all: maybe her beeper was broken. Maybe she had been incarcerated. It would not be the first time a doctor had caused the death of a patient accidentally. No. She was too good to allow herself to mess up in such a fashion.

Lucien, was it? She turned around then, speculation in her eyes as she assessed the two. They were young, simple looking boys. Dangerous, but in the way boys were dangerous. They were not dangerous in the way she was. "Were you looking for me?" her voice was a throaty purr as she pushed open the door to the roof, watching him as she took a couple of steps backwards. This was her thinking place, her planning place... but with pretty subjects, she didn't mind the thought of sharing. No... in fact, she quite enjoyed it.

Stepping out and feeling the cool night air against the back of her neck, she turned around as she walked slowly towards the center of the roof. She was an innocent doctor, completely ignorant of what was happening in the room below. She did not suppose that the boys would ever suspect her: they were looking for their friend, Ves.

Ah, simpletons.

"Perhaps." Lucien and Z shared a look before stepping one after the other onto the rooftop. To observers, the look was a typical boy to boy one, congruent with the conversation that they'd pretended to have as they headed up the stairs, but in reality, the look conveyed so much more.

Z had been right. They both knew that now, as they'd both heard her beeper ring through the silence of the stairway, and yet... this woman stood here so calmly flirting as though nothing untoward had occurred at all. They knew she'd checked the thing - hadn't the beep gone off? Within that single glance, they'd already shared mutual understanding of the events leading up to this point, and that carried with it the knowledge that even if this particular doctor was not their exact target, at least it was a target of sorts.

Lucien was by far better with the art of conversation and flirtation than Z was, and he took the lead, following the doctor out into the center of the roof, smile a bit too eager and standing just a little too close in the manner of the confident and interested. "So tell me," Lucien began, as though Z was not angling himself so that he would in position to stop the good doctor were she to attempt to run away, "what do pretty lady doctors think about, when they take their breaks up here?"

This one, the one with the green eyes was standing too close to her for comfort. But he was a man, her favorite type of victim and so she simply controlled the urge to walk away. After all, she had been the one to invite them up, and it wouldn't do to appear nervous in front of the boys. By appearing nervous, they might think that she had something to be nervous about. Like the death happening downstairs... the thought was enough to bring the smile to her lips, a flirtatious one not only due to Lucien, but also because of the life that was being taken away.

"We think about work." she murmured, looking down in almost a coy gesture as she wondered where the other one was going. This one was standing too close for her to see, and he seemed so... eager. It was a pity that it was not him who lay in the hospital bed. The eager ones were so fun to kill.

"And you boys?" she asked, using it as an excuse to look around for the one with the markings. "How is your friend?" she injected sympathy in her voice, although there was a flash of amusement in her eyes. Death, or the potential of death had bought them here.

If it was up to her, death would win the battle with their friend, Ves.

Z's eyes narrowed as the woman doctor's gaze fell on him. She was too alert, too careful, to be forced into revealing useful information, even given Lucien's skills at persuasion. He could sense the lie within her, but without proof... well, it would be enough for Lucien and himself, but the idiots back at Mission HQ would probably disqualify the ******** eyes slid over the doctor and met the sharp green ones in another shared moment. Go for it, Lucien's shrug seemed to say.

He ignored the question about their friend - Ves didn't exist and didn't matter anyway - and instead focused on the first question. "We 'boys', think about death and murder." Z had always been one for bluntness.

Taking a step closer, Z's grin flashed wickedly as he waved his hand, indicating the beeper. "Didn't that thing alert you about the guy who just died down there?"

"And yet..." Lucien picked up the thread of the conversation, taking it one step further into direct challenge. "You're up here, so casually flirting. Well, normally, I'd have nothing against it - you really are my type, you see, but there's this small problem. I'm beginning to think you're Doctor Scalpel."

The heat in her eyes died as she heard the last words. She should have known that two boys wouldn't intentionally follow a doctor onto the roof. Doctor Scalpel? Her expression shifted slightly to one of disdain as she weighed the situation. Two boys, who could hardly be out of school, against a woman doctor who had killed over a dozen victims? The chances were she would win this little battle. Her lips curled into a smile, one of disdain and arrogance. The doctor's mask slipped. It was too late for the game of pretense now.

"The press have no imagination when it comes to these names." she announced, her eyes skimming the boy in front of her. She shifted her body so that she could try to keep them both in sight. It wouldn't do to have one try to jump her while the other distracted her. "Are you boys going to tell me you're with the police, now?" her tone was slightly amused. Slightly. This would be different, fighting someone who was actually awake. She wasn't going to enjoy this as much as her other deaths. "Now, why don't I do you a favor. You boys leave now, and I'll pretend I didn't meet the two of you... and I won't have to kill you either." a pity, that. She was hoping that she would be able to have a little bit of fun.

The words barely left her thought before she lunged at Lucien, scalpel slipping into her hand from inside the sleeve of her coat.

The target is attacking! What do you do?

Finally.

Z's shout was triumphant as he flashed quickly to WEAPON form, one end of the wire wrapping around the doctor's arm as the other curled in its usual position around his TECHNICIAN's arm and body. The wire slowed down the movement of the doctor's scalpel, though it was unable to stop it completely, allowing the sharp blade to cut shallowly onto Lucien's free forearm.

The green eyed boy barely flinched, eyes flashing violently as moved his other arm, directing Z to shift further along the doctor's body, razor blades cutting the white doctor's coat into ribbons as it slid silently along the doctor's arm inexorably.

:: Slowly? ::

Z's voice rang maliciously in Lucien's head as he returned the doctor's favor with his own particular brand of pain. The blades followed each other as they moved, cutting the same spot over and over, each time inflicting a shallow cut until they became deep enough to draw blood. It wasn't the quickest way to kill someone - the cuts bled sluggishly, though increasingly faster as the cuts got deeper - but it definitely inflicted pain.

"Definitely." Lucien responded aloud, uncaring if the doctor heard his comments as he lifted his free arm to lick tenderly along the cut that she'd inflicted. "Mmm..." he continued, as if Z wasn't sliding over and around the doctor's torso, drawing a slow, wavering line towards the neck, "we're not police, don't worry. And I'm afraid I've become a little too.. attached to you.. to simply leave."

The last word was accompanied by a slight twist of the wrist, and Z began to cut shallowly into the woman's neck.

The doctor's eyes flashed as she felt the pain: but it was delicious, sweet almost. The boy was taunting her, and she had to reassess him quickly as she watched the way the razor moved towards her neck. She'd have to fight back, soon. Quickly. But how do you get rid of the razor when it was resilient and strong?

The scalpel danced from one hand to another, the free arm as she leaned forewords to cut him again. It was a dance, then. The wire wrapping around her neck hurt and she couldn't help the instinctive action that had the other hand claw at the wire.

Her eyes narrowed.

"You're going to regret this." she promised, as she threw the scalpel towards his chest.

:: Watch it, she's going to attack! ::

Lucien's eyes narrowed at the Doctor's threat, though it was Z's warning that caused him to twist to the side at the last moment - Z could feel the shift of muscles from his position around their target's body to predict moves with a clarity that eyes simply couldn't match.

"Good try," The Technician taunted, though his breath was coming heavier than usual due to his exertions, "but not good enough."

Giving Z full reign to continue his slow meanderings up the Doctor's neck, Lucien smiled fully, revealing his true nature for the first time since their meeting as he walked - no, stalked - closer to their target. Licking his lips, he leaned in close, not bothering to hide the twinge of lust in his eyes before speaking over the clashing sound of metal scraping across metal. "It would've been fun, I think, if we'd met under .. different .. circumstances." Tilting his head slightly to the side, Lucien brushed his lips across the Doctor's now-pale ones in a light caress.
