You've all seen them in the stores. Books that continue the adventures of a movie, TV show or Game long after the original work has finished. The Star Wars books, Star Trek, Robotech, Halo... the list goes on.

I wanna know what you think of them.

I was reading The Fall of Raech recently and I found it much more enjoyable than the actual Halo game ever was.

If there is any movie, TV show or anything else that you'd like to have expanded universe books written for, post those too!

I do not tend to like them. I did read a huge number of Star Wars novels one summer, but I am so fed up with the whole thing that I just wish the franchise would die.

I know how you feel about the Star Wars books. I loved them once and they broke my heart. I personally blame Vector Prime by RA Salvatore. He didn't have to bring creatures in from outside the Galaxy, he could have just gone and explored the Unknown Regions like Zahnn had set up for everyone. Poor thinking if you ask me.

I tried to read Shadow Moon which is the continuation of the book and movie Willow, but I just haven't been able to get into it...

It's a trilogy written by Chris Claremont and George Lucas but I am sure you dug that up by now.

Yeah.
But my cue is so full right now I'm not gonna get it. At least, not anytime soon.

I have to say that I don't really enjoy them.
I tried to read one of the Halo novels but just couldn't get into it.
And I've read one of my brother's doctor who novels, and they're terrible (although I'm pretty sure that some of them might be meant for kids ... the one I read though was picked out of the adult section...)
So I don't really enjoy them.

However, I have a friend who LOVES the star wars books, and although I've not read them, they might be an exception?

I do actually like Timothy Zahn, and enjoyed his first two Star Wars trilogies, but it just became too much.

Kevin J. Anderson helped ruin Star Wars novels for me.

I've read a few Star Trek novels (from the '70s), but don't really care one way or another about them. I haven't tried Halo or Dr. Who.

I think to like Expanded Universe books you have to first really like the universe they're expanding. I loved Star Wars (before the new Trilogy came out) and Vector Prime just killed it for me.

I hate Halo, but I started The Fall of Reach because my lover loves Halo and I wanted to try and share in his passion. I think the book is much better than the game but I really hated that damn game.

It depends on the universe and who is writing the book(s). I loved the continuation of Willow and the Mechwarrior books. I never got into Star Wars or Star Trek even though my brother gave me all of the books.

I'd kind like to see some expanded universe book for the Fatal Fury game series by SNK. Especially since it seems they're not going to finish the Garou: Mark of the Wolf story ark any time soon.

Urgh, I really disliked Shadow Moon. D:

In grade school I was obsessed with Star Wars books, but I haven't read any of those in a long while. I've actually just picked up reading Stargate novels to ease the pain of not having any more new episodes or movies of the original show. I've also got some Star Trek ones hanging around my bookshelves somewhere, but I haven't read any of them yet.

I personally don't like them all that much because they don't stay on topic in some of the books. They end up making some that are real uninteresting. They ruin the original books like that.

Star Wars was the only such series that I've read, I think. Loved it.
