Rath of Five

Since I have read all of his novels except Lisey's Story, Just After Sunset and Gerald's Game, I thought it has high time to start a thread of my own. I can answer most questions so ask away or dicuss the king of modern horror here.

I'll start off by saying my favorite novel is Pet Semetary followed by Insomnia with the Dark Tower series being my all-time fav.

Anyone get the comic series? Jae Lee is freakin' awesome! Too bad very little of it is new...

I liked some of his older stuff. Recently he hasn't be able to excite me how he used to.

It gave me nightmares for a week!

It's been a while since I've read Stephen King, but I really liked the few books that I have read. My shamefully short redface list includes: The Dead Zone, The Stand, Pet Semetary, and my favorite~ Rose Madder. I've been thinking that I would like to give The Eyes of the Dragon a try. (A Stephen King fantasy novel? Really??)

I haven't read very much Stephen King, despite how much I've fallen in love with his novels. heart I have read...

Lisey's Story, Duma Key, The Dark Half, Night Shift, Gerald's Game, The Regulators, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, The Shining, and am currently reading Wolves of the Calla. heart

I hope to read more of his books as I come across them, and as I get the money to. I love his writing syle, and I love how his characters and the plots are never the same.... It's refreshing, to say the least.

I've been reading SK since I was 8 years old. <3 I love his work, its never failed to keep me reading. The first two books I read were Pet Sematary and The Talisman. Now I own about 1/2 of his existing novels.

My favorite books, though, are the Dark Tower books. I love those. Anyone else read them?

I guess I never gave King a fair chance when I was younger because I wasn't really into horror. Just this year I read Lisey's Story and Duma Key back to back and was blown away by his writing talent. I decided to read through all of his novels, and haven't been disappointed yet. Here ar ethe ones I've gotten through (in order, I think)

1- The Gunslinger
2- The Drawing of the Three
3- The Waste Lands
4- Wizard and Glass
5 - Cujo
6- The Green Mile (audiobook)
7- Wolves of the Calla (audiobook)
8- The Song of Susannah (audiobook)
9- Lisey's Story
10- Duma Key
11- Carrie
12- 'Salem's Lot
13- The Shining

(currently reading Cell, and I also hope to finish The Stand and IT this month).

I think it's funny that King was so strung out on coke and alcohol that he doesn't remember writing Cujo.

Anyway, I like his Castle Rock stuff (The Body from Different Seasons, Needful Things, and The Sun Dog from Four Past Midgnight) as well all of the Dark Tower and related novels. I think his best works are the short stories.

Anyone excited about Under the Dome? Could be interesting and it's supposed to be longer than IT so the character development should be in-depth. Comes out in October.

Definitely. I already have it on reserve at the library. They've ordered 17 copies, I think, so I hope to be able to read it quickly.

I do't know about word count, which might depend on font size or whatever, but the publisher's info lists Under the Dome at 1,038 pages...exactly 100 shorter than my hardcover copy of IT.

The only Stephen King novel that I've read is The Green Mile.
What would you suggest I read first if I'm going to read more of his stuff?

I don't think you can go wrong starting chronologically with Carrie. It's shorter than a lot of his others, but it still gives you a good idea of his style.

I myself started with the Dark Tower series, then sort of randomly read his two most recent books, Lisey's Story and Duma Key back to back. I was so impressed I decided to read through all of King's novels, whcih is a long-term sort of project.

Hmm, I may look into it at some later stage.
I do still have a lot on my 'to read' list. I'm actually in this book club AND a book club in real life, so I have a lot to get read as well as reading the Southern Vampire Mysteries.

That's weird since the web site said the biggest book since The Stand. Oh well it will be good, no doubt. I am convinced it will be Dark Tower-related somehow, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

I thinkthe uncut version of The Stand was actually a little longer than IT, if that's what they mean.
