Any vegans out there? I personally like my meat, but I know that a lot of people, as part of their green lifestyle, choose to forgo meat and animal products, SO!!!
Share your experiences, and your recipes (of coarse). I am not vegan, but am a fan of vegan cooking. I have some to share, but later <3

I was vegan for 5+ years. I still do kind of feel the way I did when I was vegan, but it really is a nutritional issue. I don't believe that I got enough protein or calcium, and whereas I wouldn't dissuade anyone from choosing veganism, it didn't work for me. I cook for my mother who had osteoporosis for at least ten years and she certainly didn't get enough calcium. (It was her choice to be vegan too, I didn't make her do it). The doctor says she has a terrible case of it now, so I'm trying to help her with it.

beans for protein, broccali for calcium. Nettle is also a great source or iron and calcium, when brewed and set as an infusion.

I had a BIG issue with not getting enough B12 when I was Vegan. I was really close to being Iron deficient too. My entire right side of my mouth has some severe tooth decay now because of it. I intend to try again in a few years, but I need to make sure that I can plan out my meals properly and get enough nutrients next time.

I'm only vegetarian. My mum calls ourselves vegan, because we don't have dairy and the only eggs we eat come from our friends, where we know the chickens are living out long, happy lives. Eventually we'll be getting chickens too, but if we couldn't get eggs where we could know the chickens are healthy and happy, then I'd be 100% vegan.
I just don't understand why dairy is supposedly so healthy for us. I mean ok, if you want to argue that we should eat meat and eggs, thats fine with me. Maybe we should (but I won't), but I really don't see how humans would be made to need the milk from a cow (or whatever other animal). I mean... that milk was made for the calf, and we humans get milk from our own mothers as babies. So I don't get why some people freak out so much about it because I've always thought it was just not really needed by humans....
