This I didn't know, the article I read gave the date 21st December which in the southern hemisphere is the southern solstice and the winter solstice in the northern. It talks of the possibility of increased solar activity.

About 1} yes I read this too and also that we will be entering an 'age of wisdom' which I think will be the cause of humans to be aware of their gifts and also their spirituality and the way they connect to the earth.
2] I don't know about this as it wasn't touched in the article.

This is so right, we have no real proof other than the Mayan calendar and the date of the solstice. I think that it is nothing to fear but to wait which is really all we can do to see what happens.
