I would love to know why Link can't speak but everyone else can. I mean all he can do is yell and he sounds funny when he does that.

That's easy he lets his sword do the talking! LOL but seriously, me and my friends debated this question a lot and here is the conclusion. We believe that during his childhood something must of happened to a close friend, cause we see that Zelda is his only close friend so to speak. Anyway we believe that his friend was killed and Link spent time at some temple or something and he vowed never to speak, but to take action! This theory can go many ways but it's now really hard to find a logical answer!

I agree with the mistress to a point cuz none of the games delve deep into Link's history.
The official reason (as far as I have read on Club Nintendo, which is the official Nintendo mag for Latin America) is that Nintendo doesn't want Link talking so the player will not have a preconceived conception of the hero's voice and can always say that it is his/her voice the one that can be heard in the game instead. Or at least that's how I remember it... I'm just putting what I've read in my own words, I don't know if I changed anything here or there, he-he. sweatdrop

I just found a review on youtube about a zelda game on the Phillips CD-I and Link talks!!! He sounds like a member boy band! FYI The gameplay and dialogue suck!

Yes, he does talk in the CD-i games and maybe that's one of the reasons they stink so much.
Ha-ha-ha! Good one mistress! rofl

I'm just putting what I've read in my own words, I don't know if I changed anything here or there, he-he. sweatdrop That's what I heard about Link too, I think it's so that the player can become more immersed with the story by 'becoming' Link. You can even change his name when you feel immature enough to abuse the name change screen. redface Some guys in my college used to do it when they played the game in the break room, and poor Link used to get called all kinds of dumb things.
Never mention those awful, awful CD-i games. Those are just like the 4th Indiana Jones movie for me: they never existed. lol talk2hand Although Link also used to speak in the very old cartoons that were made back in... I think it was 1989 or sometime later. I was such a fangirl I used to watch them, but I didn't like the representation of the characters. Didn't Link always used to say "Well Excuse me, Princess!" to Zelda when she started complaining to him?
No! lol Link isn't retarded, he's just secretive. What's wrong with a little bit of mystery? I think it spoils it when they make characters speak, Sonic the Hedgehog sounds like a total idiot now he has a voice. Come to think of it has Mario been given a speaking voice yet?

Yeah, if you look into the Mario movie then you'll see that Mario, Luigi, and Peach were given voices as well as "real life" forms. And as usual, Peach got into trouble, and there was a Yoshi-looking character.
Anyways, why give a person who is better off silent a voice? It's like this experience that my art teacher had. She was in a class sketching this supposedly "handsome" guy, but when he spoke... She said that the whole glamour of the guy was just wasted away, and spoiled.
Want that to be what people remember of Link? A good-looking character with a terrible voice that spoils his appeal? His mystery?
Plus, there are a number of characters that I've played who haven't really had "voices" so to say. However, I am feeling like I'm missing a lot here. So, I'm not really going to touch on that anymore.

Voices can spoil a good character. Why would Link need a voice anyway? I've gotten through the games just fine by getting the gist of what the other characters imply that Link said (in certain conversations, mostly in WindWaker and Twilight Princess.)
@Amicitia: Yeah, I think giving Sonic a voice made it all go downhill from there. lol I still remember the really old Genesis games. pirate Now those were good games.

I know... It seems whenever I've forgotten about the Mario brothers movie... I remember it.
It's the relevancy, and the fact that it was brought to questioning that made me remember this time. Unfortunately.
Other than that, I don't think I have anything to say here...
