A careful reading of Ephesians 4:11-14 indicates that prophets and apostles were meant to remain to maintain a "unity of the faith" and a "knowledge of the Son of God" but also that without them man would be "tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine" (vs. 14) This exactly the condition of "mainstream" Christianity.

If prophets existed throughout the Bible, why do we need them today? Amos 3:7 reveals that God will do nothing, save He reveals them to His prophets. Also 1 Cor. 12:27-29; 14:29-33, 37-39 indicate the prophets and the gift of prophecy were part of the original Christian church. The prophets principal duty is to prevent error and confusion among the Saints.

-From the book entitled "Answering Challenging Mormon Questions." By Micheal W. Hickenbotham-

What does the guild think about this?

Paul also makes it clear that the Lord reveals His will to His prophets and apostles by the power of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 3:3-5)

Careful reading of Luke chapter 11 will show that Christ taught that slaying the apostles and prophets would cause the key of knowledge to be taken away (Luke 11:49-52)

We need all the help we can get in, I think we are not intelligent enough to handle all the for-knowledge GOD could provide to us; but what we can handle He provide it through his prophets and for me it's conformation of an ongoing covenant.

Agreed, which is why I love my religion that I am in. We have the fulness of the Gospel of Christ and we are lead by a modern day Prophet.

Help? Yeah. A constant prophet? Do you really think every generation has a prophet? Gifts from God are REALLY RARE, you know.

There are 6.4 billion people on the planet, I'm sure God can bestow the gift of prophecy on one of those individuals who are worthy to have such a gift. But not all gifts are rare YA KNOW, how else are we to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost?

The Holy Ghost is not a spiritual gift? All gifts from God are spiritual. Otherwise they would not be from God.

God giving Himself to us isn't Spiritual. It's more a Blessing than a Gift.

How is it not Spiritual?!?!?!
1 : of, relating to, consisting of, or affecting the spirit
I think the Holy Ghost touches on that right there.

God being in us, giving us Joy is a Blessing. Not a gift. We have to ask for Him before He comes to us. He doesn't just give it to us.

Every blessing bestowed upon us is also a gift. How is it not a gift? It was given to us from God, for basically free, so it's A GIFT

Having God is something we have to ask for. You don't ask for gifts. That's rude.
