Now admit it, its ok, we've all done it at some point, theres no need to be ashamed.
With the endless peer to peer softwares like Limeware and Bit torrent out there, its no wonder we've all downloaded a few tracks for free.
But where do you stand on the issue of downloading music for free? Do you feel it is an afront to the artists who originally created the music? Or do you feel as though they should be flattered that you like it enough to download it to begin with? Is your music player a towering city block with endless playlists and albums that you downloaded for free or is yours an quaint oasis of legal content?
Do tell.
As for me? Ive downloaded a few tracks here and there but mostly I like to pay the people who poured so much of themselves into the music I listen to.

I feel that most of the time, if the artist is mainstream enough, and worked at it being that way mostly for the lure of lucre, then they should expect it. Especially artists like Kanye West that sample songs like Daft Punk's Hardest Faster Better Stronger hit. If an individual who does this complains about illegal downloads, that I think is just down right hypocritical.
As far as my own oasis, I used to have purely album bought iTunes library. This was mostly because I just had plenty of albums and I wouldn't have that many songs, it could be somewhere between 200-300 and I'd be happy (I tend to horde my memory). Then most of my albums were thrown out in a fit of irrationality, which at some point I'll perhaps learn to forgive, and I had only salvaged about four. So I have to admit that I've downloaded a few songs. But I find, that if I download maybe one or two, I like to get the album anyway. Especially if it's a new artist, and I discovered many artists I now love that way.

Well said, you present it almost as an attractive medium that could be used to promote the music industy as well as the music of new and unknown bands, I suppose theres a good side to everything smile

I, not too long ago, saw an ad from 50 Cent for men's makeup. I wasn't too sure if my eyes deceived me, so I looked into it and was pretty surprised. Ah...

As much as they always say its "stealing" from the singers, the record companies, etc., I don't care biggrin And I honestly don't see how people downloading music is taking money away from them. Someone might not buy an album because they could get it online for free, but the people who put the album out aren't losing or gaining anything. Plus, they'll always have the hardcore fans that will buy their cds no matter what, so it's not that big of a deal. If, to name a random artist, Green Day, only makes $14 Million on their latest album, instead of $16 million that they might have gotten, if people had gone and bought their cds instead of downloading them, I don't think it's that much of a loss.

all of my western songs collection is downloaded for free why? becuase there are no stores who provide them, you see people in egypt don't really like western songs only a minority does plus 1$=about 5 L.E so stores don't buy western CDs because they won't sell and that's absolutely's not my fault but if i ever go to one of those stores who sell western CDs (and those are rare i only saw them in movies) i will buy the ones that i downloaded from the internet for free if i find them
