Omnipotent Uncertainties Captain

Recently, the series True Blood has debuted on FX (Fox outside of America) For those of you unfamiliar with it, its a vampire seris (hear me out!) set in America's deep south. Its a genuinely excellent piece of television, from acting right down to direction and music. The story follows a young woman by the name of Sookie Stackhouse, a human waitress iving in Louisiana in a world in which Vampires coexist with humans. They're existance was made public knowledge after Japanese scientists developed a substitute for blood that satiates their nutritional needs.
What I was impressed by was that, unlike SOME modern vampire fiction, its story is genuinely gripping, and deals with issues such as drug addiction, racism, alcoholism and war in a brutally honest way. Its characters are extremely flawed, the main Vampire is seen to fight a constant inner battle with his thirst for actual human blood, another lead character is emotionally estranged, another still is....well, lets not descend into the realm of spoilers.
Does anyone else watch this show? What are your opinions on it, its content, and the issues that arrise in it?

I don't watch it because it seems overly sexual, overrated and cliche. My mother tells me the books are much better so I suggest reading the books. I also heard that they're making a drink after the titular drink of the show which will be made from blood oranges. I'm sorry to say that my love of vampires viciously died after reading Stephenie Meyer's horrid revision of modern vampires and I just can't seem to watch True Blood for some reason. I prefer Hung and I can't wait for September to come so I can watch HBO's new series Bored To Death.

I have been watching this series for a while and I really like it. I am a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charline Harris and I think the tv series is a decent adapation.

OP: Ah yes, the drink that was inspired by the show. I wasn't to impressed when I heard about that, though I'm too bothered it, its just paraphernalia, the kind of stuff that comes about whenever you get a popular TV show or movie.
And yes, the books that a movie or series is based on will always be invariably better than the series or film itself.
Speaking of which, I really must pick up some of the Sookie Stackhouse series.

Granted, I've only seen the first season so far, but I Find it far superior to the book, actually. It's much more even in tone, I feel, and I felt how people would react to the supernatural in their day to day lives was better handled by the series.

All I'm aware of is that my sister watches it and my father once watched it with her, and being that it was "overly sexualized" as sated before it was a bit awkward. It had to be an intense moment as well because she's married with children so he's pretty decent with a lot of subjects but that even she admitted that that episode was a bit much.
I generally am not fond of the vampire scene much anyway, and it's direction in media.
