I felt like a mommy grounding her child for having come home after curfew.

You have a choice.
You can try to revive them, or you can make your own.
In the event where you'd try to revive them, make sure the owner of the thread is aware that their creations are coming back to life.
Other wise, you might just end up role playing all by yourself.
If you start a new Role Play, you first want to make sure that people will be interested in your idea. That's what the RP Request thread is for.
You can post your ideas there and see if your fellow role players are interested.
When you get enough interest, go ahead and start it in the appropriate sub-forum.
If you came here for the leisure of chatting, create a discussion thread in this same forum. There's no limit to what you can talk about (except for ToS restrictions) so let loose and talk about that water cooler your mom just bought.
