I can't really pick just one. I love Daniel Keyes and his novel Flowers for Algernon, that will always be up there as one of my favourites. I also love Charlaine Harris (as you can tell from the Sookie Stackhouse series thread).
It's easier for me to tell you which authors I really hate razz

~My Personal Masquerade~ I've been meaning to read Flowers for Algernon for awhile now. But I honestly can't remember what it's about sweatdrop Help? Oh? Which ones do you hate? xD It's about an adult 'retard' (that's the expression used in the book, not my own choice of words) called Charlie who has an IQ of something like 60 ... and he's being tutored by his teacher Miss Kinnian (can't remember how to spell her name). Some scientists have done surgery on a mouse (Algernon) and made it smarter and they want to try the surgery on Charlie to see if it heightens the level of intelligence in people as well. The book is composed of Charlie's diaries as he faces all of his mental challenges with a new way of understanding. That's how I describe it to people anyway razz It's such a heart-warming book. Authors I hate include George Orwell, Cormac McCarthy, Sebastian Faulks and ... although it's only a dislike rather than a hate ... J K Rowling. I find Harry Potter VERY tiresome now.

My two favorite authors are Ted Dekker and John Green. They're both amazing, I just can't pick one or the other.

Oh right it's the one with the mouse. I just put it on hold at library actually. I really want to read it now. It sounds good. I've never read the first three. I've never even heard of Cormac or Sebastian. But I somewhat agree with J K Rowling. I liked it when I read them four years ago? I think I read them then. But they don't really appeal to me anymore.

I've never even heard of Cormac or Sebastian. But I somewhat agree with J K Rowling. I liked it when I read them four years ago? I think I read them then. But they don't really appeal to me anymore. George Orwell wrote 1984 and animal farm (although, after reading half way through 1984, I never bothered with that one). I was never forced to read it for school or anything, so I hate it of my own free will razz It's like the original big brother theory, so it's all based around politics etc, and it drives me crazy. I also don't like Orwell's writing style, I find it very dry and hard to swallow (I think my metaphor there was quite appropriate). Cormac McCarthy is a really well-established writer, and he's really, very well critically acclaimed. I read his book 'The Road' not too long ago, and it just made absolutely no sense to me. I didn't like his writing style at all, it was very choppy and so I had no idea what was meant to be happening. The speech wasn't indicated with speech marks and it was not made clear which character was speaking. There were NO chapters. It was just one whole piece of writing and so it became difficult because of the style to tell whether what was happening was directly after the last event or whether there was any significant amount of time between them. I just found it very disappointing and grim after how much it had been praised. FINALLY! Someone who agrees with me about Harry Potter. I usually get shouted at (or typed at in capital letters), or looked at in a very peculiar way when I say I don't like it, but it's really repetitive in style and in plot. I did used to like it ... about 4 years ago like you said, when I was 14. After that it became an overrated nuisance. You really should read Flowers for Algernon though. It's a beautiful story.

I haven't read either 1984 or animal Farm but one of my friends is/was reading 1984. My brother had to read it for school he didn't like it much either. which probably means I won't like it because with read a lot of the same because. For Cormac McCarthy I just looked up the road and I read 3 sentences into the plot description and it doesn't seem to my liking at all. No speech marks? I can't stand it when people use anything other than the normal quote marks. No chapters? That would kill me. And I always have to know whats going on. does not sound like a book for me at all. I can see why you wouldn't like it.
Harry Potters good... For its age group. it's meant for like 10 year old's right? Once your out of that age its kind of a quick for fun read to waste time. or it was for me the first time. not the second... well I haven't fully re-read any of the books.
Speaking of having no chapters in a book... actually this doesn't apply to that at all but it has to do with chapters. so it kind of does? I love the current book I'm readings chapters because at the start of each chapter there's a little part that's written in the waaaay future when the main characters in old man and hes trying to write a history of the country. sometimes it helps you by telling you about something that's mentioned in the chapter or it tells you about whats going on in other places. I just like how when I get to a certain spot I know whats going on instead of having to wait for an explanation. o_O didn't expect to talk about that so much.

I'm reading The Road right now because a friend of mine insisted I read it. He loves it, but I hate the writing style. Like Vogue Muffin said, it's very choppy, no quotations for speech. I can't follow along at all, but I'm struggling through it for my friend. I have a feeling I'm going to end up with a severe dislike for Cormac McCarthy.

Haha, I really wouldn't bother with 1984 if I were you. And from what I've heard about animal Farm, don't read that either. Yeah, The Road is terrible. It's really confusing. If you ever see it in a book shop, have a quick look and you'll see what I mean about not being able to understand who's talking ... or sometimes, if it's even speech or just normal narrative. And flick though, NO CHAPTERS. It really annoyed me. When I read a book, I have to read entire chapters at a time. It feels odd leaving a book half way through a chapter - just wrong. Yeah, Harry Potter really is just a kids book, and I don't understand the craze. Are people not incredibly tired of the overrated hype?? I think I've decided that Charlaine Harris is definitely becoming one of my favourite authors 3nodding

I mean... by the time I got to page 100, I still had NO IDEA what was meant to be going on. I just knew there was lots of death and a Road. I couldn't work out if the little boy was actually the guy's son or not ... and it's so choppy it's just unreadable. I have no idea if his other books are written like that or not, but frankly, I don't really want to find out. ><

I always have to finish before I can do something else. I am. Some of my friends still "looooovee" it but I don't get they've read it like 12 times. having to sit through that over and over again would kill me. It could be worse though. Harry Potter fans seem to know how to spell at least. well not all but more than the Twilight fans. I swear those girls have no control over their caps lock buttons. I've been thinking of reading some of her books.
