I have a few gripes with parts of this new constitution, specifically with the part that forces members to not post contrary views to the ones expressed in the constitution. When members are deprived of free speech and expression, this guild is no longer a place for education and exploring different theories, it becomes a place for brainwashing people with a specific ideology. Intellectual freedom for socialists and communists is far more important then strict ideological adherence. These rules are an insult to the less extreme Marxist and non-Marxist members of the guild. It has little to do with what I or anyone else personally thinks of these positions; the issue is with forcing new members to adopt hard-line Marxism, and most importantly, not allowing members to express their viewpoints if those perspectives are in opposition to hard-line Marxism. Quote: v. Society is plagued by a vast array of social ills that stem from the division of society into classes based on their relationship to the means of production. It is both possible and desirable to abolish class society through the transfer of the means of production from private ownership to the community as a whole. If class is being defined in the Marxian sense as a group of people sharing a common relationship to labor and capital, and you are requiring that we all hold the belief that we need to abolish the class that owns the means of production and derives its livelihood from such, then I am perfectly fine with this condition. However, as I have seen some argue in here, if you are defining the abolition of class as the abolition of any form of rank or hierarchy in society, then I cannot approve of making this a required perspective for the members of this guild. Quote: ix. Nationalism is the lie that the people of a given nation have common interests and serves only to divide the international working class and prevent common action. It is both possible and desirable to eliminate nationalism. The nature of the nation can change under a socialist society just as the nature and role of the state changes in a socialist society. A nation can theoretically comprise any group that has a shared culture, objective, shared history and common values and can be multi-ethnic. Perhaps the character of the nation can change under a socialist society. Economic nationalism is often used to resist international capitalism and foreign corporate takeover of a sovereign nations resources. Neoliberals and global capitalists have just as much distaste for national divisions (because they inhibit the free flow of capital and make it more difficult to conduct business) as international communists do. This is not to say nationalism has not been used to divide the working class, but even class loyalty, like national loyalties, can be used to mislead people. Forcing members to be anti-nationalist or against the concept of nations is ridiculous, especially given the amount of left-wing nationalist ideologies that have existed throughout history. And please, no strawman responses to this post by making the claim that all socialists with moderate nationalist tendencies are Nazis, or that nationalism is racism and the concept of nation is directly tied to the concept of race. Quote: viii. Racism is inherent in capitalism and is manufactured and encouraged by the capitalist press and state to divide the working class into hostile camps with perceived differences. Racism is neither natural nor inherent, and it is both possible and desirable to do away with racism. That’s ironic, as pro-free market and libertarian capitalists often hold the view that racism is irrational and counterproductive and believe it to be the result of institutionalized conservatism and racism (through government policy and the promotion of such), and not inherent in capitalism. The capitalist will do business with anyone, regardless of their race or sexual orientation if it is profitable. The capitalist will also tend to hire anyone who will help generate the most profit for the company, regardless of their ethnic background. It’s ridiculous to think that all socialists will, and should as a requirement to be a member of this guild, share the view that there is a constant capitalist conspiracy to promote racism within the ranks of the working class in order to divide them. Racism in the lower classes stems from the uneducated, anti-intellectual masses that use such concepts as a scapegoat to explain their poor or deteriorating living conditions. Gracchvs, like the Leninists and Marxist-Leninists throughout history, is attempting to strip us of our freedom of expression and thought while imposing his ideology upon us, quickly silencing any opposition to such as “counterrevolutionary”, or in the case of this guild, “trolling”. Because this is the Neo-Communist, Communist and Socialist guild, and not the Orthodox Marxist, Leninist and Trotskyist guild, we should not be forced to adopt hard-line Marxist perspectives to simply be a member of this guild.

Nowhere in the constitution does it say that people cannot post views contrary to those 5 points. Rather, they are the requirements for new members. The question of how to approach those who are current members but disagree with one or more of the points has been brought up and there is a thread in the CC about it, made, oddly enough, by me.
Moreover, for someone with such ostensibly high standards such as yourself, you fail to note the part where the constitutin says that punishments (of which there are 4, and they are clearly listed) can only be applied to those that break rules. Rules, I might add, that have not yet been made, and thus no one can break them.
To claim that restricting who comes in somehow equates to restricting expression of those already in is disingenuous at best.
Despite the understanding of class being given "division of society into classes based on their relationship to the means of production" you continue to post under the assumption that it is aimed against you.
The wording was very deliberate in that it defines class as an economic grouping. Despite the fact that I don't see class as 'hierarchy and privilege'--the bureaucracy in the CPSU was not a class, for example-- the point doesn't address privilege, but the "division of society into classes based on their reationship to the means of prodiction."
Moreover, I worded it thus deliberately. Rather than seeking to stifle the guild I want the guild open to non-marxist socialists, hence the lack of the terms 'bourgeoisie' and 'proletariat'. For one to find problems so readily, you don't dare imagine how the constitution could in fact not conform to my views.
On the Nationalism point you have no reason to fear any strawmen of any other than your own making. What the fate of the nation is under socialism is a matter of concrete historical circumstances, and thus that discussion is not for here. The thrust comes after that. 'Forcing members' to do things, I am accused of, but funnily enough I have forced no one to do a thing.
Again, rather than force those in here to believe in something, it is a restriction of future membership. We have Curse and Anarcho here who do not agree with the first point at all, and yet I find myself not calling for them to be kicked. Rather the 5 points are saying 'if you want to join the guild, you must meet some requirements'.
Racism is inherent in class society, and reading the point I find that it should be edited to say that, and not specifically capitalism. However that is not your point. Your point is that it is wrong to demand people actually have a specific view on this.
And after all that it should be obvious that I want the NCS to have not only communists, but socialists as well. To claim that the 5 points given are 'hardline marxist' is absurd. Nothing about those points given are specifically Marxist, and if they were they would be much narrower and there would be many more points.
Rather than this being about me trying to force people to adopt views in order to be members of this guild, I put forward that henceforth the only people recruited should be people that agree with those points. We see then, especially considering you were privy to the discussion in the chat earlier about this very question where I repeatedly said what I have said above--that this post of yours is trolling. You are seeking to promote conflict over an issue which doesn't exist. The non-existence of which has been repeatedly pointed out to you in particular.
People cannot be banned for something that a rule does not yet cover, and considering the complete lack of rules at the moment, it should be clear as day that no one can be banned.

The Curse Louis-Auguste Robespierre People cannot be banned for something that a rule does not yet cover, and considering the complete lack of rules at the moment, it should be clear as day that no one can be banned. Louis-Auguste Robespierre People cannot be banned for something that a rule does not yet cover Louis-Auguste Robespierre that a rule does not yet cover Louis-Auguste Robespierre I see. And you will notice the mechanism for making rules means that with the current CC, it would be impossible for me to make a rule that would kick you, let alone actually enforce the rule. As you would see if you read the constitution, banning requires at least 2/3rds majority, meaning 4 out of the 5 mods would have to agree with the motion to ban. Although I do recognise that you are just joking, I thought it would be wise to point out where that falls on its face in practice.

Quote: Rather the 5 points are saying 'if you want to join the guild, you must meet some requirements'. Which is what I, including Rob and Herobane, are opposed to. Earlier today, you were talking about limiting what Herobane could say in the guild regarding his positive views on nationalism, suggesting instead that such views (which are contrary to your "socialist morality") be restricted to a new NCS community guild. Quote: People cannot be banned for something that a rule does not yet cover, and considering the complete lack of rules at the moment, it should be clear as day that no one can be banned. Yet nowhere did I claim you were going to ban existing members. Quote: The question of how to approach those who are current members but disagree with one or more of the points has been brought up and there is a thread in the CC about it, made, oddly enough, by me. Oddly enough, I would not know that because I am not in the CC. Quote: To claim that the 5 points given are 'hardline marxist' is absurd. In any case, they are alienating to people such as Herobane and me, and potentially to any non-Marxist socialists wanting to join the guild. Quote: We see then, especially considering you were privy to the discussion in the chat earlier about this very question where I repeatedly said what I have said above--that this post of yours is trolling. The only part of my post you can potentially label as "trolling" is the paragraph likening the policies in this constitution to those of democratic centralism and Leninism. Quote: People cannot be banned for something that a rule does not yet cover, and considering the complete lack of rules at the moment, it should be clear as day that no one can be banned. Critiquing a proposed guild constitution =/= claiming you are going to purge members of the guild.

Funny. For someone who wishes to stifle discussion you seem to be very free to say these things.
I brought up the idea that maybe the people here not say things which are contrary to the 5 points. That was quickly rejected. You were there, so you know.
And to claim that I am somehow waiming to deprive people of free speech without enforcing that restriction--and banning is the only realistic way of doing it--is rather sneaky. The implication of your post, this one, the previous one and all the posts you have made in this guild, is that I want to ban people and to purge the guild.
Comrade Rob is firmly in the camp of the Right, so he will be able to tell you how all through the election he would ask me how we are going to purge people when we win. I consistently said 'we are not going to purge them'.
Is it my expectation that when the rules are made that one will engeneer their expulsion through purposefully breaking the rules? Yes. Is it my expectation that they will pretend to have the moral high ground because of it and seek to split the guild? Yes. With that in mind, why on earth would I bother with a purge?
So, yes, the implication of your post was that I want to purge the guild. Not only have i consistently denied it such, but now with the power I have not done anything, and as pointed out above: why should I?
And considering your presence in the chat, your denial of knowledge of the thread made in the CC is laughable. You were there as I told Rob about it originally, and when I pointed out to him later--when he seemed to agree with the points but wanted a formal position on how to treat the pre-existing members of the guild--that the thread existed and that he should post in it.
So taking into account the fact that this has been gone over before and you rehashed the same arguments that were pointed out to be completely and utterly wrong then... This can only be attributed to trolling or some amazing memory disorder on your part, and is in no way an honest critique of anything.

I even let in a new member today who specifically said she liked/agreed with the front page of the guild with them on it. ^^ Well yesterday. Your today though, I guess. Woo!
Anyway, okay. So let's say there was a problem with these points... how would you rephrase them? Or would you just scrap them altogether? (Where 'you' = all those who have a problem with it...)

I still don't like the anti-nationalist part.
Anti-nationalism's fine, I get that. But you seem to not be targetting the ideology, but the people behind it. Granted, that's what I do with nazis, but Fascism is an entirely different situation...

Granted, that's what I do with nazis, but Fascism is an entirely different situation... I could deny that is what it does, but that would be silly, as everything which descriminates against a given view must necessarily descriminate against those who hold that view. However, if I were to argue from an abstract point of view, I woud say that it is, in fact, targeting the ideologies for exclusion and that the people thus excluded are excluded because of the ideology. But that is merely the above put in the words of a sophist.

This can only be attributed to trolling or some amazing memory disorder on your part, and is in no way an honest critique of anything. Yes ... I was AFK for most of the conversation, only checking the chat every 15 minutes or so. So I probably missed a lot of the conversation. But sure, let's just say it's "trolling" to make you feel better. Quote: And to claim that I am somehow waiming to deprive people of free speech without enforcing that restriction--and banning is the only realistic way of doing it--is rather sneaky. It's insulting to even mention you wanted us to keep our views in line with your ideology when making posts. And no, banning is not the only method; you could have temporarily kicked non-conforming members from the guild until they agreed to your terms, ostracize them for having ideas that contradict your "socialist morality", or move them to a new forum you were obviously planning for us impure (aka, non-Leninist) socialists. Quote: Anyway, okay. So let's say there was a problem with these points... how would you rephrase them? Or would you just scrap them altogether? (Where 'you' = all those who have a problem with it...) I would remove the nationalism section altogether, re-wording clause viii. by changing changing "capitalism" to "class-based society". I would change clause v. to the following: v. Socialists believe in state, public, worker or community ownership and control of the means of production, and understand it is both possible and desirable to abolish capitalism and class society through the elimination of private property in the means of production. Personally, I believe this and clause vi. should be the only requirements to be eligible for membership in NCS.

Considering that you will comment on issues long since passed over--thus illustrating that you have read the prior conversation--there is no reason to accept your story as true.
I suggested a means of dealing with the situation that I subsequently dropped. That you focus on something I suggested shows your true colours. The whole complaint about me wanting to somehow silence you--or anyone else--for your views is exposed for the farce it is when you keep hanging on to a former position of mine, moreover, a position which was advocated as a stop-gap until a rule could be made for that issue.
Rather than this being about silencing anyone--and how hard did I fight to get you to rejoin the guild? That should be enough proof I have no intentions of doing anything of the sort--this is about me. When you first entered the chat you indicated that you are a rabid sexist who thinks women worth s**t. This hurt your ego because you expected to come here and be seen as the saviour instantly. Instead, recognised for the utterly abhorent views you hold, your admiration for fascism (under the codeword 'corporatism') and your defence of privilege you lash out, grasping for excuses to oppose me and everything I do.
Your politics being empty, your personal views abhorent you were not recieved as the saviour you expected, so all you can do is try to beat the person with the clearest and most defined politics here.
So I cop s**t off you as both revenge for your wounded pride being regected socially, and because you were rejected politically.
Combined with your natural propensity for trolling, it is easy to see how everything you say about me is most likely dishonest and seeking to create drama. We must look at everything you say in this prism.
To this end you want as lax requirements as possible for the guild, under the mistaken view that you can play mediator between the fascists and other opponents of genuine socialism who will inevtiably come in and the socialists and communists already here.
Compare that to my points which while defined are broad--despite your claims to the contrary. With these we demand people actually be socialist, and we spell out that that means. They allow much variation while having a clearly set boundary.
This a direct threat to your dream of a messianic reception, because it means that people must be socialist, rather than just leftists who you can be easilly moulded without knowing anything.

Quote: I suggested a means of dealing with the situation that I subsequently dropped. That you focus on something I suggested shows your true colours. Something you continued to talk about until yesterday, with people such as Herobane and Rob telling me this is the goal of the constitution. I have always been opposed to making those specific points requirements to join the guild. You even mentioned yourself your goal was to make this a Trotskyist-only guild, and how "awesome" that would be. Quote: Rather than this being about silencing anyone--and how hard did I fight to get you to rejoin the guild? That should be enough proof I have no intentions of doing anything of the sort--this is about me. Well, I will concede that much: you sure fought hard to get a "fascist" like me to rejoin the guild. rofl And no, this is not about you. My gripe is with the requirements you have for new members to join the guild, and about your proposed measure of moving all non-socialists (as you define the word) to the NCS community. If the second concern is resolved as you say, that's that and we can focus on my first concern. Quote: When you first entered the chat you indicated that you are a rabid sexist who thinks women worth s**t. I joined this guild to be a savior? Okay ...? Since you assume other people come into the guild to be received as saviors and demigods, that tells me something about how you view your position in this guild. As for corporatism, I am still interested in some corporatist ideas, yes. Corporatism being a method for organizing an economy as well as a means for distributing power evenly among corporate interest groups (not business corporations) in society. Unlike you, I wont immediately disregard it as something evil without exploring the concept further merely because it is related to fascism. Quote: Your politics being empty, your personal views abhorent you were not recieved as the saviour you expected, so all you can do is try to beat the person with the clearest and most defined politics here. I am not the one with the messiah complex here ... I don't care what people think of me, if you haven't noticed. Obviously someone like you will say my political views are abhorrent and empty (as you do toward anyone who disagrees with you). I am sorry to burst your bubbles, but it is difficult for any sane person to take your personal views and politics seriously. What is it you are doing in life again, lets see ... you rejected going college (because it's bourgeoisie) and instead dedicated your life to "organizing workers" for some international proletarian revolution you assume will come true? rolleyes Quote: This a direct threat to your dream of a messianic reception, because it means that people must be socialist, rather than just leftists who you can be easilly moulded without knowing anything. Again, I am not the one with the messiah complex here ... Quote: So I cop s**t off you as both revenge for your wounded pride being regected socially, and because you were rejected politically. You are absolutely right! I am obviously being rejected politically and socially by this guild, so I am going to troll you because my ego is bruised! Revenge is sweet, ain't it? rolleyes Quote: Compare that to my points which while defined are broad--despite your claims to the contrary. With these we demand people actually be socialist, and we spell out that that means. They allow much variation while having a clearly set boundary. Correction, you demand people actually be socialist as you define the term. Which means socialist by the narrow orthodox Marxist definition, considering you don't even consider market-oriented socialists to be "real socialists". Because obviously people like me are mere fascists and not true socialists. From Merriam-Webster Online: Quote: Socialism 1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods Perhaps you can be the savior for Merriam-Webster because obviously they are bourgeoisie sympathizers to define socialism in that way. lol I think I will go with what others have told me; you are delusional and insane. And I am not even joking about that.

"v. Socialists believe in state, public, worker or community ownership and control of the means of production, and understand it is both possible and desirable to abolish capitalism and class society through the elimination of private property in the means of production. " Personally I don't think any significant meaning is lost with this rephrasing, so if it will appease the guild, then so be it. Other people: opinions please? I'd also be okay with the capitalism -> class-society suggested for the same reasons.
As for Hero's objection... I don't think it actually does what he says it does? Although I don't quite understand this 'targeting the people behind it'. As written in the OP there, I'll go through the nationalism section:
"the lie that the people of a given nation have common interests serves only to divide the international working class and prevent common action." - Now I assume you agree that it is not the case that people of a given nation have common interests (that are different to those of people belonging to other nations). This part highlights the lie that the elites/ruling class of a 'nation' have the same interests of the working class (or indeed other classes) of that nation (I use these terms for the benefit of all socialists). This ties nicely into either of the point 'v.'s suggested. "It is both possible and desirable to eliminate nationalism." YES, it's possible to eliminate nationalism. There needs to be no specifically Marxist or otherwise explanation for this, just a historical one; nationalism arises out of certain conditions and can be eliminated in others. It is desirable to eliminate a need for an 'us' and an 'other' as defined by arbitrary geopolitical boundaries and sometimes engineered culture.
As an aside: Sorry I haven't been around much but I'm busy with uni stuff... although I'll be popping in to help sort all this out, I guess. *salutes*
Edit: And chill with the personal nastiness. Keep it in the realm of debate...
