Quote: ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Your success is huge, and it's come really fast. How do you explain it? STEPHENIE MEYER: I didn't realize the books would appeal to people so broadly. I think some of it's because Bella is an everygirl. She's not a hero, and she doesn't know the difference between Prada and whatever else is out there. She doesn't always have to be cool, or wear the coolest clothes ever. She's normal. And there aren't a lot of girls in literature that are normal. Another thing is that Bella's a good girl, which is just sort of how I imagine teenagers, because that's how my teenage years were. ...Yeah, I facepalmed. And headdesked. And facewalled. The Queen of Mary Sue and badly pulled off self inserts (because not all are bad.), like every girl? She's a blank slate, ready for your image to be projected onto! Obviously, that's what Meyer did. Notice the last line. That's how her teenage years were? Lady, get a grip. If that's how you imagined your teenage years, you need more help than I thought. That is not how every teenager acts like. In fact, very few of us do. She is shallow and annoying, never able to stand up for herself. THAT'S how you imagine teenage girls?! I honestly can say I wish I never meet you. Bella isn't a good girl, and she shouldn't be a role model. She begs her boyfriend to have sex with her, deliberately puts her and her friend in danger, and clearly has something wrong with her mentally. She has no social life outside of her "twu luv", who is abusive. She chalks everything up as "He does it because he loves me!!!applesparkles111!!!" She is not normal, and I cry that many people my age are saying this is better than Rowling, better than Tolkien, better than King. It just... I can't say anything more without ranting. Your reactions?

xD i agree. Stephanie Meyer said in something else(don't know what) that the entire series was based of a dream of some sexy guy she saw in a dream. Even Robert Paterson said that it was creepy that he's in a movie about a wet dream of hers.

Good girl? Hmm, I've never heard of a good girl who's constantly disrespectful to her parents, or who gets down with a vampire. ??

Princess Pirateer Good girl? Hmm, I've never heard of a good girl who's constantly disrespectful to her parents, or who gets down with a vampire. ?? Ah, yes. Poor Charlie and Rene, who had the demon spawn out with part of her name. The thing is, she rarely ever thinks of them. Naturally, the reader forgets until she brings them up every... What, 50 pages, at BEST?

I find it very frightening that smeyer considers her work to be of role-model quality. I would facepalm, but with the amount of times I'd do it, I would knock enough brain cells out of my head to be down on her level, so I'll resist the (strong) temptation. Bella is one seriously messed-up character, but in the author's sad attempts at making her normal, she becomes thoroughly distinteresting.

Bella is a no-brainer. Is Meyer calling me, you, and all of us girls idiots?
Well, maybe the ones who read and actually like the useless papers.

I am PROUDLY not like Bella, along with all the females in this thread. For the poor souls who like this... I really have nothing to say.

... ...a good girl, which is just sort of how I imagine teenagers, because that's how my teenage years were. A "good girl?" Really Meyer? Really? Seriously, Bella's so unrealistic that Meyer needs to get her head out of her butt and go do some reseach on the behaviour patterns of teens if she's going to write from their perspective.
