What I've thought up so far is this:

A time travel protection agency (Time Force) and their struggles with time criminals. Time Force is a world-wide agency, a cooperative effort to preserve the continuity of space and time. It is somewhat like a police organization, but is also a bit like the millitary (though we won't be fighting wars.) Time Force is constantly having to chase down time criminals across time and all over the world. We will be visiting many different destinations of time and place.

Places and times you'd like to go to?

Here are a few I thought of:

ancient Egypt
medieval Europe
feudal era Japan
the lost city of Atlantis

How our time travellers know when and where to go?

1.) UFO sightings - They travel through time in machines that look like flying saucers, and their appearance will later be dismissed by skeptics as "Just another random UFO sighting" - so they can move through time without impacting history and without truly being noticed as "time travellers"

2.) Ooparts - More accurate carbon-dating in the future, so this would lead to the very day that an object was buried being able to be determined

3.) other similar unexplained phenomena

Such a large organization would need many different branches/departments:


1.) the Time Force squad itself, of cours wink

2.) Science

3.) Technology

4.) Medical

5.) Research

6.) Fashion - they will need historically accurate clothing

7.) etc.

Good question - quite possibly. We might also have to stop (less) harmful people like businesses trying to start up a black market-ish time travel tourism business.

So would the timetravel device look like something from stargate? (was that a good series?)
Also, how much control would they have when going through time? would they just go back in time or would they have control over the location too? Would there be a charge time to use it? like a few minuets, hours, days, weeks, months, etc?

That's a good idea - I think that maybe there would be a gate they go through - that they fly through in a space ship (to provide cover - their ship would be mistaken for "just another UFO) - something that connects them to a wormhole in space - and they would have to reach the speed of light within the wormhole, I think.

I'm presuming that their would probably not be a problem with energy/power (if they find out (through a spy network?) one of the bad guys has gone to the past, then they would need to leave quickly). On the other hand, that might be too easy - however, their could be a way of travelling to another Time Force facility very quickly if their gate is charging and they need to leave asap. That is something that needs to be considered more - gotta think about that one, but it could make things more dramatic.

As far as travelling in both space and time, that might be more unrealistic than just travelling in time - or maybe not - I don't know. We could say that they must travel to the location in their time, and then travel through time while in that location - good question. We have to think about that some more too! Thanks for bringing this up! Good questions, all - and important to have answered before we begin the roleplay!

Yes, I definitely think that we should try to give this some plausibility - to draw from real laws of science and physics and from real theories that people have about time travel. smile
