The excuse of the hot, sweltering day and having nothing to do at Shibusen meant of course Zoe was in town, looking for something tall dark and cold. Deathbucks would have been the second choice, because there were several dark tall and studlies AND a raspberry flavored latte that rocked her world. But Jared was busy helping the movers arrange the furniture (why she wasn't helping wasn't due to the fact that she didn't want to. It was because Jared refused to let her touch his ideal image of feng shui.) and she was alone. She was all alone in town able to go where she pleased without the tall weapon ruining her fun. So of course she was at the ice cream parlor, eyeing the display with the weakness of a sugar addict and the Aren Kros with the weakness of a fangirl who just simply loved good looking men too much for her own good.

"Can I try the butter rum flavor again?" her expression was one of consternation as she watched the man serve the others first. Well, that was fair right? She'd been here for fifteen minutes already sampling the more unique flavors the ice cream parlor was famous for, using it as an excuse to just drool over the good looking man behind the counter. Why he was actually being the serving boy in his establishment, she didn't know. Neither did she particularly care. It was good for her. It worked in her own advantage.

Actually, if he was so busy... she eyed the little flap entrance and wiggled her way towards it, sliding towards it with the most innocent expression on her face. She was a regular here, wasn't she? Despite Jared's threats she hadn't yet been black listed from the establishment yet either. SO if the only ice cream boy was very busy serving others, why shouldn't she serve herself?

It was for the good of mankind, after all.

Shimmying her way to the back and reaching for the little tester spoons, she had a moment of sheer delight that she had succeeded when a calm and authoritative voice spoke behind her.

"Excuse me ma'am, you're on the wrong side." a hand rested on her back as he tried to discreetly push her back out to the other side. She resisted for a moment, then decided this was an all together a very pleasurable sensation.

"But you were busy~ so I was doing this for us?"

Yeah. Sure.

It was rare to see demure Kang Ling out on her lonesome at school, much less in town. Actually, it wasn’t surprising to see the shy female hanging out by herself. With a quiet girl like her, it was easy as pie to imagine her as the type that tended to be alone. She was fairly used to it by now. Although it was a fact that Kang had friends back at California, she couldn’t say that they still contacted with each other often and that they always went out together numerous times. That was simply not her. Rather, she was the type that silently spent her days at home, reading a book or doing schoolwork. It was a plain life, but she was content with it nonetheless.

Well, her days used to be so peaceful until she started attending SHIBUSEN. Within her first week as a fledgling TECHNICIAN, the Chinese girl had found herself to not one, but two WEAPONs. Everything got overwhelming pretty fast. A little while later and she had already completed two missions, just a billion more souls to go. No problem.

Since forming her partnership with the Moreau twins, she had constantly stuck with them in and out of school. It wasn’t that she personally searched them out, more like the opposite. With Caine securely on his back, Rainer always managed to pick his TECHNICIAN out from the crowd. It befuddled her so, since Kang Ling believed she was nothing special. Just an ordinary girl . . . who happened to kill murderers for school. Yeah. Definitely average.

Lacking a location in mind, she stopped and inquiringly stared at the shop before her. ‘Nomnomnom Ice Cream Parlor?’ Having previously heard Rainer rave on about the store’s exotic yet delicious sweets, she shyly stepped inside. Immediately met with a flush of cool air, she squeaked and hurriedly rushed inside, secretly glad to be wearing a jacket.

She politely waited in line, patiently standing there. Almost as patient as her WEAPON, Rainer, Kang Ling was content with busying herself by examining the establishment. Then her eyes caught sight of the girl in front of her. Her body leaned sideways, curious to see what exactly was happening. “I-Is s-so-so-something w-wrong?

Zoe looked up from where she had actually managed to lick the man's cheek to see that the girl was talking to her. It had taken some swift maneuvering (the extra training sessions with Jared were certainly paying off... in a way she had never imagined!) to get in this position, but she had succeeded. Pity he didn't taste as good as his ice cream. Different in a good way, but butterscotch chai ice cream would beat his a** to the curb. Still.

"Are you with her?" there was relief in the man's voice as he all but carried her to dump Zoe on the same side as the small asian girl who had just arrived. He was normally completely capable of handling a young girl, but never had one tried to lick him in public. Well. Never had one tried to lick him in public without his permission. "Welcome! You know what, your friend has been waiting around long enough, I'll just give you the nomnomnom special. An ice cream sundae for two, with four scoops of the most popular flavors." He'd do ANYTHING to get rid of this girl. But he loved money too much to actually black list her... yet.

Zoe stared, disconcerted that she had been thrown back to the other side of the pit so soon. She stood there for a moment, blinking as she tried to figure out just what she had done wrong and why this girl had the fortunes to be paired with her. Was it because she had asked Zoe a question? Maybe. Still. At the bribe of a free ice cream sundae, her eyes perked up. This was a good deal! She'd have to do this more often, maybe bring Jared in and treat him.

"Aren't we lucky?" deciding that anyone who could potentially help her get free ice cream was a friend, she grinned at the new comer. Asia, huh? She was part asian too! That meant they were sisters, for the cause of free food! "Come on, let's grab one of the tables by the window, and rub it in to everyone else! The sundaes are _awesome_ here."

She looked to see that they were preparing the sundae and bounced twice happily. Sugar!

Kang Ling wasn’t sure what she was expecting to happen next, but it certainly wasn’t this. Catching a fleeting glimpse of the other girl gladly licking the man’s cheek, her face turned white as a sheet and she hastily turned away with pursed lips. Cheeks flushed red and slender hands reached up to cover shyly cover her face, hoping to erase that moment just now. She had no idea whether they were a couple or not (although there seemed to be a slight aged difference?), but she would have rather preferred to have not seen that, joking or not.

Then Aren asked if she was partnered with the girl and she whirled around to face the owner of the shop with a stupefied face. “E-E-Eh?” she stuttered, mouth wide with shock. What exactly did he say? What? “Are you with her?” She wanted to hastily tell him that she was not this girl’s companion. She didn’t even know her name! Yet he sounded comforted by this assumption and the Californian couldn’t bring herself to utter out that one, easy word. Not like she had ever thought it to be easy to say in the first place. She never did. At least she could consider the free sundae as a minor compensation for this.

Although the . . . outgoing personality of the other girl made her feel uneasy, she seemed nice enough. The other teenager extremely elated at the prospect of ice cream, she grinned at Kang Ling, who threw her a hesitant smile in return. “I-I s-su-suppose?” she meekly replied.

At the proposition of showing off their free sundae to other customers, she looked alarmed. “R-Rub it i-in? I-I'd ra-ra-rather n-not . . .” she answered, voice trailing off and fingers interlocked with each other. Hoping to leave this topic behind, she glanced towards the window area and spotted an empty table. Kang hurriedly pointed to it and gladly made her way over to it. “Th-There’s o-one.

She seemed so shy and awkward. Zoe grinned as she watched the other girl make it over to the empty table. She was so different! Grabbing the gigantic ice cream sundaes and sticking two spoons into the towering collection of ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate syrup, she followed the girl to the chosen location. Was she stuttering, or was she just shy? Zoe knew she'd have the answer to that later.

"Hurray for ice cream, right?" she said, placing the object of glory in the center of the table before taking her seat. "My partner let me come here once? And then he banned me from this location. I don't really understand why, because the ice cream is so good. So it's been a while." she nodded as she reached for her own spoon, eyeing the girl with a look of amusement. "Have you been here before? I hope you don't mind that Aren put us together."

To say that she talked a lot would have been an understatement. She scooped a little of the sundae and placed it in her mouth, letting out a happy noise that sounded almost like a croon. This was good ice cream. This was really good! Pity Jared seemed to want to avoid this place like the plague. She'd never understand the other man sometimes. They were a team, but so different!

She watched the other girl. They were about similar age, but that was perhaps where the similarity ended. She wondered if she was always this shy, or maybe it was the situation. Zoe had to admit: sometimes people seemed to react differently around her than others. Not in a good way, but hopefully not in (too) bad a way either.

Kang Ling sat down in an empty seat, placing her hands on the cool plastic and curling her fingers over the edges. She pushed herself back to relax against the cushiony backrest, not minding how her legs barely brushed the floor. Although above average for most girls of Asian descent, it was still only average height by American standards. Not liking being model-tall or of the sorts would have better, or made a difference for that matter. Size did not determine her personality. Rather, a bigger height would have meant adding another thing to be uncomfortable about to her growing list.

She politely listened to Zoe make idle chatter. “P-Partner? I-Is th-th-that so?” she replied and leaned forward to grab a hold of the spoon buried deep in the cold ice cream.

Kang Ling shaved off a small portion of the sweet and slipped it into her mouth. Her taste buds experiencing an unexplainable whirlwind of flavors mixed with the slight tang of the metallic utensil, she swallowed. This was delicious! Not even the ice cream flavors at the Baskin Robbins at home could compare to this. There must have been a reason for these flavors with crazy names. Not like she was concluding that the peculiar title gave the ice cream a wonderful taste, but more like the wild ideas that the names suggested happened to be quite delicious.

She shook her head. “N-No. I-I d-don’t mi-mind, a-and th-this i-is m-my fi-first t-time h-here,” answered Kang Ling, taking another scoop of the sundae. Head dipped low, her eyes curiously stared at Zoe. Her mention of a partner made the girl wonder if she happened to be a SHIBUSEN student as well. “Wh-What s-school do y-you g-go t-to?

Zoe watched intently as the girl put a spoonful of ice cream in her mouth. Her eyes brightened as she grinned, leaning forwards on the table with an arch of her brow. "It's good, isn't it? It's your first time? Then it's fantastic! You get free ice cream on your first visit!" she laughed, reaching for another scoop of the ice cream as she nodded her head. It was a nice surprise wasn't it? "Have you not been in town long then?" she asked. Maybe she was a stranger, or a tourist in town to visit some friends or family.

School? Zoe's eyes brightened. "Shibusen?" she waved her spoon in the general vicinity of the school before reaching for another scoop. "It's not too far from here, and it's quite nice. Me and my partner haven't been there for too long, and we've only been partnered for the last month, or something?" she put the spoon in her mouth and let out another happy little croon. Damn she could get used to all this sugar. "What about you? Are you visiting? Do you live here?" inquisitive maybe, and a little bit nosy. But she was honest about it.

Playing with a little bit of the whipped cream, she tilted her head. "If you've never been here, is this your first time? Or maybe you don't like ice cream?" now that was a terrifying thought. Someone who didn't like cold condensed sugar? Hopefully not: all girls liked ice cream, didn't they? She placed the whipped cream in her mouth and leaned forwards for an answer.

With a satisfied grin the other girl leaned forward, cocking an eyebrow as if to say “It’s good isn’t it? I told you so.” Although the minor fact that Kang Ling had just met her belied this thought (at least she could say that she could easily imagine Rainer making that same sort of face at her if it had been him rather than this stranger). She weakly smiled back at her and softly nodded her head. “Un. I-It’s f-fortuna-nate,” she agreed.

She popped another question and the Asian took another small scoop of the sundae. “I-I s-suppose n-not?” she replied, unsure of her answer. Shy eyes glanced at the other, wondering if she thought that Kang was someone visiting for a few brief days or so. It had been the truth in the beginning, but after catching a few rumors about Shibusen she had decided to check it out.

She had never left ever since. Discovering her ability as a technician had been a fluke of sorts, or that was what she thought anyways. Her first week at the school had been quite busy, adjusting to everything on top of having herself partnered with twins. Yeah. It was a whirlwind of confusion.

Nodding her head, Kang added, “S-Same. I-I’ve b-been wi-with my p-partners f-for a-about tha-that l-long t-too.” She frantically shook a hand. “O-Oh no! I-I’ve j-just be-been b-busy w-with s-school is a-all,” she explained.

Same? Partner? So she was from Shibusen as well? Zoe's eyes lit up as she reassessed her. Weapon or technician? She seemed so tame! Either as a weapon or a technician. "Has school really been that busy?" she wondered out loud, not really intending it as a nugget of conversation. Partners though, huh? A plural. She'd never heard of twin technicians sharing one weapon, so she supposed it must be the other way around. And it wasn't as if other schools referred to their students in any way that mentioned the word 'partner'. Right? So she grinned, deciding that if Kang wasn't from Shibusen... well. If Kang wasn't from Shibusen, her school would still be damn interesting.

"You're new as well?" she grinned. "How do you find it so far? It's quite interesting, isn't it?" she shook her head as she dug into the bowl for some more ice cream. "I remember in the beginning, I found it quite strange? I don't come from a family of technicians, so I don't have this sort of thing being tradition in my house." she waved her spoon with a flourish. "Red, my weapon? Not like me though. He has all these expectations and ideals..." she rolled her eyes. What could you do about a eager weapon? "What are yours like?"

It was different, for her. She'd met plenty of female technicians in class, but none she'd really spoken to. Women didn't seem to attract her attention as much as the men, and the men... well. They were far too interesting to get distracted from.

She nodded her head. “Y-Yes. I-I’m n-new,” confirmed Kang Ling.

Scooping up another spoonful of ice cream, she contemplatively stared at it. Her lifestyle had drastically changed this past month. Rather than returning back to her home state, sunny California, she remained in Death City, Nevada. Who would have thought she would be attending a school full of students who collected the souls of others, especially witches? It was a fact that she was still trying to soak in. More often than not she crawled into bed and laid there, wondering if this was all a dream and the next day she would wake up to the sound of her younger siblings’ squealing voices and excited shrieks.

She nodded her agreement. As far as the girl could tell, she was related to neither a technician nor a weapon. To discover that she had an ability to match “wavelengths” with another was surprising. “Th-That is the ca-case f-for m-me a-a-as w-we-well.” Shoving more ice cream into her mouth, she listened to the other girl speak of her weapon. So she was a technician as well?

D-Di-Difference i-is g-good th-though?” she timidly offered. “M-My w-weapons? W-Well . . .” She paused and wondered what to say of the twins. They were both different from each other, but cared for each other as well. After living with them for a few weeks Kang Ling had eventually drawn that conclusion. “Th-They’re t-twins. F-French. R-Rainer a-and C-Caine. R-Rainer is . . . ch-cheerful w-while C-Caine s-sleeps a l-lot, b-but is s-sort of b-bl-blunt w-when h-he’s a-awake?” she answered.

"French twins?" Zoe perked up at the idea. Now this sounded very very interesting! She wondered if they looked completely identical, and if they were good looking. Funny thing about Shibusen. Most of the boys she'd run into were good looking in one way or another. (It was a good thing for a woman to be enrolled, really.) "Lucky. I've always wondered if working with twins was different from working with one weapon. It must be harder, since you've got to use both hands at once? But it must look so cool as well!" plus you got to live with two people, which was always a good plus.

"We should have a get together all together, one of these days." she looked back at where Aren stood with a sigh. "Although I doubt Red will ever let me return here." what was wrong with licking the icecream man? They were there to be licked, no? It was like going to Deathbucks and not oogling all the good looking men and women. Why else would good looking people parade themselves in DeathCity?

Zoe hesitated with her spoon, frowning as she tried to think back to their conversation. She didn't know this girls name! Now that was embarrassing (and she didn't find many things embarrassing!)! "My name is Koh." she said somewhat sheepishly. "Zoe really... but no one calls me that. Except for some of the strict professors who seem to like using proper first names? But everyone I know calls me Koh." her gaze was expectant as she stared at the other girl. She'd done her bit.

Kang Ling nodded her head, innocently staring back at the other girl with curious eyes. An interested light in the stranger’s dark brown eyes, she silently asked herself what was so entertaining about French twins. Well, she had to admit that the concept of twins was unique by itself. After all, the statistics were that twins were approximately 32 out of every 1000 births in the country. That meant that having twins were somewhat rare, right? Fraternal or paternal. She figured that both were interesting in their own ways. Twins were a pretty neat idea, now that she thought about it. People always said that twins had this odd connection with each other. She took note to ask Rainer and Caine whether they had a special twin connection or not.

A hand absentmindedly reached up to twirl her side pigtail as she meekly shrugged. “I-I g-guess th-that’s t-true. I-I l-like ha-ha-having t-two w-weapons th-though,” she replied. “Th-That w-would b-be n-ni-nice a-as w-well.” Her voice full of sincerity.

Despite attending Shibusen for approximately a month now, she had yet to make a friend besides the twins. (Although, in her mind she didn’t exactly consider them as they had began as partners first rather than companions.) An opportunity to meet others she would gladly go to.

O-Oh . . . th-that’s t-too b-bad. P-Perhaps a-another l-lo-location i-instead?” she offered, disappointed that perhaps this suggestion would never fruition. As the other girl introduced herself, Kang Ling hastily bowed her head out of apology and embarrassment. “I-I’m K-Kang L-Li-Li-Ling. Ni-Nice t-to m-meet y-you, K-K-Koh. Y-You m-may c-call me K-Kang i-if y-you w-w-wish.
