What to do, what to do, what to do...
Laurel stood in the guidance office pacing back and forth. Behind her sat a large stack of papers reguarding her college. She had been waiting in the office for about and hour and had missed a whole class already.
"Laurel Rosary? We'll see you now," said a warm voice from the office door around the corner. With glee, Laurel scooped up her pile of work and scurried her way into the small room. She had been working all summer to get all this work put together so she could go to her dream college.
The councilor stared in horror at the thin, blond-haired girl holding the heap of papers, "what on earth is that?" she asked pointing at the papers.
"Well, you said I would be your first international student, so I wanted to make this as easy on you as I could. I hit the website hardcore and printed out a lot of information. I went through and highlighted things of importance and things we need to talk about are noted in the notebook on top!" THUD, the papers hit the desk, "I figured it might take a while, so I'm sorry if this holds up any of your other appointments". The councilor just stared at the heap of papers and notes, "I guess we should start with requirements for admissions applications..." Laurel whipped open the notebook and pulled out the first pack of papers that were cliped together, "I need to get a letter of expected graduations from you and my stepdad will be in in about five to ten minutes for the transcript release paper. I already looked into that and got the form for it. I filled out the this rough copy of an application and am going to enter the material into the online application. I have lists of recommendations from teachers and all I need is yours before I scan them all into the computer and email them or fax them to Mao, my admissions officer," the councilor stared at the girl, slightly dizzy from all the information being thrown at her at once.
"Okay Laurel, it seems you are really driven to be going to Japan. What's next," dare I even ask? started the councilor.
"Visa and aid! I looked into the scholarships the school offers, which is why I have all those letters of recomendation. I also pulled out a few scholarship from other website that will work for the school and applied. I have my letters of award, and I'm going to scan them to Mao as well. I just need a little help with the FASFA stuff. I know you said that we aren't starting that till January, but I already looked up the form and have it with me. I need to get things done ahead of time because the Visa application is due at the beginning of March in order for me to go to Japan in August. Also, I've been working really hard over the summer to have the remaining balance in my banking account hold me over to get the flight and other personal items I need as well as books and what not for class. I already ordered my books for when I arrive and Mao is going to hold on to them for me as well as mark them with my name. Oh! and can you help me figure out how to register with the embassy? I was looking on the website and it was a bit confusing. Though I didn find out I can vote by mail post!" she giggled slightly after setting off her motor mouth. She was so well educated in this is was a little scary. Why was she even down at guidance as it was clear she knew more than the councilor about this college appplication process?
"Very good Laurel, any information on the board of immigration?" asked the councilor.
"Yes yes! I have the whole forms for applying for my registered alien card in both Shinjuku and Ota. Those are the two wards I have the possibility of staying in. I worked through them both, though it's a little strange right now having papers with both english and Japanese writing," she laughed again and whipped out the packet of information on the wards and immigration. She was so pleased with herself for having gotten all the information at the start of the year rather than run out of time.
It was while till Laurel had to leave to go to her sister school that she helped out at, but oh well. On her way over to the school she listened to nothing but Japanese. Japanese music, audio disks to help with the language barrier, the girl had thought of everything!
