These are pictures I took at Anime Expo 2009. How this relates to travel? Well, anime is from Japan, and is influenced by both Eastern & Western cultures, and this guild is about travel, cultures, geography. So ... it might be a bit of a stretch ... but, hey, anime & cosplay - the people who are into that kind of have their own culture too, in a way. wink And, I did have to travel to the city of Los Angeles (about an hour's drive away from where I live) to go to Anime Expo (which was held at the L.A. Convention Center.)
I must apologize for the picture quality. I tried to improve these a bit in Photoshop, but many are still very poorly lit. The L.A. Convention center is a horrible place to take pictures ... well, there are some areas with natural light, but other areas are lit artificially, and not very well, either ... *grumbles* ... and, I'm not the best photographer in the world, anyway, so ... they probably would not have turned out as well as I had hoped they would anyway, I'm sure. sad

heart heart heart Anime Expo 2009! heart heart heart This top row is my brother & I in our costumes (and pictures of the characters we cosplayed as.) He was Luffy from One Piece, and I was Shuurei from Saiunkoku Monogatari. I made my brother's Luffy shirt, and my costume as well. His took a very short amount of time, but mine took forever! It took my like 3 months, and still, right down to the last minute, I threw together the obi (the orange part) and that part is held together with duct tape on the inside so it looks ... awful ... xp I'm going to substantially alter many parts of this costume to make it look much better for next year's Anime Expo. (I can't wait to go again! xd heart )

I was so happy that I saw a Haji on a day that I cosplayed Saya! Haji is the King of my anime harem. ^_^ I wish my Saya costume had looked as good on me as on the Saya standing beside this particularly good-looking Haji - my Saya costume was so ill-fitting (ordered it online ... never again ...) that I won't post pictures of it - they did not turn out well ... This Haji/Saya couple recognized my costume even though it was ... well, what it was - and they asked me if I had seen a Diva. (In Blood Plus, Diva is Saya's arch-enemy) It would have been fun to have amassed a pool of Blood Plus characters together for a group shot. I didn't see that many while I was at Anime Expo, one Haji, and maybe like 3 or 4 Saya's, spread out over a 4-day period of time. This picture (also in the picture posts above this) is the Haji X Saya couple that I chatted with:

And I just have to say, Samurai Darth Vader is full of win! xd *applauds* This picture still makes me smile. ^_^ I find this costume hilarious! There's something so bold, brash, and utterly absurd about it. xd *giggles* (I think that is the effect he intended to convey, irregardless, the helmet made it quite an impressive costume!)

Recognize this familiar face? This is Ruby from the store Ruby's Rack here on Gaia (before they changed her look.)

Cheap But Cute Costumes: heart I really liked the "his" and "hers" milk cartons couple. (The picture shown here is of their costumes when they took them off to sit down.) They were so cute! This vending machine totally cracked me up! I love it! Costumes don't have to be expensive to be effective. smile I might go as a box of Pocky on one of the 4 days of Anime Expo next year. smile

These girls were really nice. They were waiting in a room of people entering their costumes for the contest, and I asked them how they made some of the more difficult parts of the costumes. They told me what they did, what materials they used, etc. Now, I want to make a costume with similar components (fake armor pieces, fake jewels.) Their costumes are from the anime series "Magic Knights Rayearth."
