Z perched rather absently on the rail near the entrance of the skate park, eyes scanning for a familiar figure. Beneath his feet, his board was set sideways over the rail, and in all honesty, the feat was much harder than it looked. But the boy stood there as if it was solid ground, almost unmoving, until suddenly, he shrugged. A deft flick, and he sent the board flipping through the air once to land on the sidewalk with his feet once again firmly planted on its surface.
He figured he might as well play around while waiting for Derek, especially since he wasn't sure if the other would show up at all.
A bit rusty from lack of practice, he nonetheless managed quite easily with some of the more simple flips and tricks. Balance came naturally to him, almost on the same level as breathing, but remembering exactly where his feet were supposed to go and where to apply the pressure was something he had to try hard to remember.
Hmm.. this isn't quite as boring as I remember it to be. Tongue lightly held between his teeth (yea, yeah, he could bite it off by accident, but who cares?) Z moved with absolute concentration from one end of the park to the other. There were other skaters there, to be sure, but they Z, whose world had now narrowed down to himself, the board, and the dark grey concrete, they didn't even register.

Having found a note on the door to his apartment, an invitation to go boarding, Derek soon found himself headed to the skatepark the next day. While he was in no real hurry, he made his way east at a fairly quick pace. Excitement drove him, as he hadn't had a chance to see the skatepark just yet. Not only that, but he was curious to how Z was with the board. While he was feeling a little sore from yesterday's training, he was definitely up for skating now.
It didn't take long for the boy to hear the familiar sounds of skaters and their activities. A grin slowly crept onto his face, which grew further as he spotted the place up ahead.
There were a few people there, but his hazel eyes scanned the area to try and find one individual. It wasn't too hard; Z was pretty easy to pick out in a crowd. At least that's how Derek felt. And from the looks of things, the other boy was already out and skating about.
"Yo Z!!" he called out in greeting, throwing in a wave to try and catch his attention, "What's up?"
Slowing down now, he made his way to meet up with the other boy, whether or not Z would notice him.

The voice and the action caught Z's eye, and he came to a stop in front of the source of both. "Derek." Z's face was alight with exhilaration as he quickly stepped off the board, flicking it into his waiting hand. The world came back to him in bits and pieces, and he became aware of the hot, laughing sun and the others at the park with them.
An insane grin appeared on his face as Z lifted his free arm in greeting. The other boy looked about the same as when he'd seen him last, near SHIBUSEN, though he noted a bit of weariness around the eyes. Probably was the new partnership, what with twin WEAPONS and the additional work that required, he decided. Which meant that the other would be in good enough form to show him a few tricks today.
"Not much. I got here just a while before you." The grin grew bigger. "You didn't get lost."
With that, Z dropped his board with a clatter and jumped on it, using the momentum to carry him straight into a perfect kickflip before he leaned, turning back to face Derek.
Cocking his head, he regarded the other for a moment before waving his hand expansively to indicate the concrete behind him. "You ready to go, man, or what?"

The look on Z's face was fairly similar to some of the ones he had seen when they first met, when Z spoke about Tokyo and about the ability to become a weapon. Most likely, it meant that he was enjoying himself quite a bit in the skatepark.
Sharing a similar, but not quite insane, grin, Derek nodded and laughed.
"Nope! Made it here without a hitch," he said before watching the other boy do an impressive kickflip, "Sweet move!"
His hazel eyes were lit with excitement; it seemed that Z was pretty good on a skateboard. Aside from enjoying doing things himself, the Technician always found it nice to see others pull off tricks as well. And well, newbies weren't quite as interesting to watch usually, so he was pretty glad to see that Z was beyond that.
"Oh yeah, definitely."
Without another word, he kicked the concrete to start picking up speed. Grinning as he felt the wind breeze through his hair, he hopped up onto the railing near Z, feeling the board grind against steel under his right foot. It lasted for roughly a second before he hopped once again to flip the board with his heel.

At the other man's affirmative words, Z laughed, a sound similar to the one he'd made when they first met. Head thrown back, balancing lightly on the board as the sound carried over the faint sounds of boards rolling on concrete. "Let's start then."
He stood immobile, watching with arms crossed over his chest as Derek skidded down the railing. It wasn't an easy trick, and Z found himself respecting the other for being good but not bragging during their first encounter. "That's cool, man. I've got the balance to land on the rail, but sometimes the moving throws me off." Pointless to mention that it was also his lack of control over his own element that occasionally caused the problem.
Z was imbued with an element along with his WEAPON form, and he had yet to master this additional facet of his powers. It was as wild and unpredictable as he was, and while he had been trying, he hadn't had much success.
Figuring it was his turn, the dark-haired boy quickly pushed off with one foot in a smooth efficient movement, heading towards the ramps. This part, he loved. Grinning wildly in anticipation, he went up the ramp with the wind roaring in his ears, waiting until the perfect moment to execute a frontside 360. Oh yeahhh!
Landing near the bottom of the ramp, Z let the momentum of the jump carry him back to Derek. <********, I'd forgotten how fun boarding could be."

Looking back towards Z, Derek grinned before nodding, "Yeah, it takes a bit of getting use to. I'm sure you'll get it down soon enough though!"
Then, as the other boy breezed past to head towards one of the ramps, he watched to see what he would do. Wide eyes, filled with excitement, watched as Z executed a pretty sweet move. Once it was done, he moved to meet up with the other boy.
"Haha, hadn't done it in awhile I guess? If that's the case, you're doing really good!"
He was sincere with his words. Going off of how well Z was doing here, he wouldn't have ever guessed that the other boy had put down the board for awhile. Z didn't seem to be all too shaky or rusty at all in his opinion. Though, since it was more or less his turn to go, he didn't offer any other words, and sped off towards the ramps as well. Once reaching the half-pipe he picked up some speed rolling back and forth to reach one the top of either side. Once he gained enough momentum to reach the lip, he firmly planted his palm down onto it to do a basic invert. Then, dropping back down, he picked up speed and went airbourne on the other side to do a Japan Air.
Adrenaline rushed through his body as he did all of this, and for him, time always seemed to go more slowly whenever he was in the air. Even if in reality it all happened in a matter of seconds. The landing was a little on the shaky side, but he managed to keep from bailing off the board. Taking in a few deep breaths, he grinned over at Z to see what he would do now.

Z was silent as he watched the other on his turn. It wasn't usually like him to be so patient - usually anything with structure became far too confining within minutes, but today he'd come mostly to see if there was anything to be learned from the other. Derek's words hadn't surprised him much, as his lack of interest in the sport had nothing to do with his lack of ability and more to do with the limitations of wheels on ground.
The trick that Derek was currently doing looked interesting, and he watched closely, eyes narrowed as the boy's board left the ground. He made mental notes on how the body was contorted, where the balance seemed to be, and even why the landing hadn't gone perfectly. Snapping out of his intense concentration, Z noticed Derek was smiling and grinned right back, eyes and posture going back to normal for a split second before he pushed off on his own board.
His eyes were a bit wild as he passed the other boy, and his canines seemed to flash as he spoke while moving past Derek. "I'm gonna try that." The words were curt as Z's focus narrowed down to his board, himself, and the concrete under him.
Getting the invert was simple, and the air whizzed past him as he sped over to the other side to do the new trick. Coming completely off the ground was easy, and he made the grab for the board with his left hand, right arm flung out as he'd seen Derek do. I see... Exaltation flashed in Z's eyes for just a second before he let go for the landing. Tricky... he timed it wrong, and was just a tiny bit too late for the landing, not able to get out of the pose in time before the wheels hit the ground. The board went one way, while his body did a quick somersault in the air before Z landed on his feet, metres away from his original landing point.
Traces of the wildness remained in Z's violet eyes as he laughed, tossing another backflip for good measure. "That, was insanely fun."
Jogging over, Z picked up his board and headed over to where Derek stood, oblivious to the stares from others at the park over his strange attitude. "Yeah, I definitely haven't done this in a while."

The other boy was going to try the tricks he had just performed. With a grin, Derek stood by and watched to see how well he'd do. Personally, he found working in a half-pipe a little more difficult than freestyling.
His eyes followed Z intently as things seemed to start off well. Though as good as it looked, the timing was a little off for the Japan Air. And as he landed, the guy had to bail. For a moment, Derek was worried he'd hit the ground hard, but he soon saw that Z was perfectly fine. Laughing as the other guy back flipped, he glanced around, taking a note that a few people were staring.
"Haha, well at least you have a good attitude about it. Some people get kinda angry if they don't stick a trick," he grinned.
Just then, someone zoomed on past them and into the half-pipe. Looking over to the side to see what was going on, he saw one of the other skaters doing what he and Z had just done. Only, the skater managed to land the Japan Air without a hitch, throwing in a 360 to the grab for the heck of it. Once done, the guy looked over towards Derek and Z before announcing to everyone.
"And you see boys, that is how a pro does it."
Derek blinked at this. While he had to admit the other guy was good, he wasn't so sure why he had to throw in what he said. What did he have to gain by showing them up?

At Derek's words, Z's grin only got wider. "Falling's half the fun." The higher the better, though it never got said as his attention was diverted by someone else moving towards the half-pipe. Twisting his body so that he could see fully, Z watched with an eyebrow quirked and a half-smile playing about his lips as the other did a perfect, and embellished version of the same trick.
Z would've let it lie, seeing as he wasn't such a massive fan of boarding anyway, but then the idiot opened his mouth, and Z couldn't pass it up. This was a challenge, and he had always been a sucker for those. The excitement in his veins that had faded while they watched returned in full blast, causing Z's eyes to glitter and his cheeks to flush slightly. He cocked his head, remaining absolutely motionless as the half-smile on his face took on a challenging edge. In his head, he was already running through what he'd do once he hit the half-pipe - just because he hadn't been able to master the Japan Air on the first try, it didn't mean he had no tricks up his sleeve.
What he was attempting was more than a little crazy - Z had to admit that, even to himself - as he hadn't been on a board in over a year, but he had to do it. It wasn't anger, for Z didn't seem to have that emotion in him, but challenges were thrills of another sort, and he simply couldn't resist.
One quick push with his right foot, and Z began to move. He zipped once, right past the big-mouthed skater to catch his attention, before performing an Ollie Airwalk as he circled around, heading towards the half-pipe and picking up speed. His ponytail streamed behind him as he frowned in concentration, preparing to fly.
Like before, he did a basic invert before heading towards the other end, gaining momentum as he went. He executed a perfect Stalefish, complete with a graceful landing before zooming over to the opposite side. Knees bent, Z left the ramp and went straight up, waiting until he'd reached the peak of his airtime before moving. This part would be easy. Reaching down he literally pulled the board out from under his feet, gripping it with one hand as he flipped backwards in a tightly controlled 540 spin before landing feet first, right before the other boy. Z's smile was absolutely feral. "Who needs to be pro?"

"Haha, true that. Not to mention you can't really learn if you never fall." His logic there was that if someone never fell or had to bail, they weren't pushing themselves hard enough to ever really improve.
To Derek's surprise, he caught a wild look in Z's eyes. There was a sort of fire within them. It seemed he was planning something, but for the time being he wasn't entirely certain what that was. In the next moment he saw the boy speeding back towards the halfpipe.
The Technician tilted his head before crouching down to watch what was about to happen. It seemed that Z took the loud-mouth's words as a challenge.
"This should be good..." he said, grinning in the process.
Sneering at the boy with violent eyes, the show off looked at Z when he circled around him. The guy didn't look too impressed, but he was willing to see what this boy had to show. The stalefish he pulled off wasn't bad, but the next trick made his jaw drop unintentionally. Wide eyes stared into the crazied expression on Z's face before he realized he heard some clacking from around the area.
Impressed with the maneuver, Derek, as well as a few of the others who had been watching were smacking the ground with their boards as a way to applaud Z.
Then, standing back up, the Technician skated over by Z as the show off stomped off angrily.
"That was sick man! I know I can't top something like that," he said with a laugh.

Z turned his head, acknowledging the approval before snorting with amusement as they landed on the other skater's retreating back. The combination of adrenaline and triumph coursing through his blood felt almost as good as... sex. Though he had to admit - inwardly he was a bit disappointed. What a pansy. He'd been totally looking forward to doing another round, too, but apparently his challenger was only capable of showing his stuff on a board.
Turning to Derek, Z returned the man's laugh. "Nah, man. You probably know a lot more tricks on the board than I do." Z had only perfected a few tricks, learning them out of curiosity to see their limitations before moving on to other things. While he could appreciate the airtime that he got while being on a board, there was just something wilder and more risky about doing the tricks with his own body only.
He wondered if the other boy would continue to play in the skate park, or if the show-down had changed his mind. After that last jump, though, Z was pretty sure he wouldn't be able to stand simply moving around on a board, but there were other things he could do here, if Derek wanted to show him a few tricks.
Figuring Derek would indicate which it was he wanted soon enough, Z dropped his board on the ground and hopped back on it, using it to circle around the other boy as he performed some of the simpler freestyle tricks.

Grinning as Z returned, Derek shook his head in amusement, "Hey, quality over quantity man. Quality over quantity."
There was still somewhat of a competitive air in the area, even though the little showdown was over. Derek enjoyed pushing himself to the limit if possible, so a small idea came to mine. Perhaps Z would like the idea as well. Nothing like a little friendly competition after all.
"Say... why don't we have a little race of sorts. Not head to head - that'd be hard to do on the obstacles. But kinda a timed challenge. Some of the others in the area might not mind judging and if that's the case we'll be scored on how fast we are and on our tricks."
Then, pointing out to the skatepark, he was trying to figure out some sort of course they could take.
"So I guess it's kinda like an obstacle course, on a skateboard. You up for that?" he asked. This was one way he'd be able to see some more of the moves Z had, while having a blast himself.

Z paused mid-trick at the other's suggestions, balancing precariously on the edge of the board for a second before using the toe of one shoe to flip the board back, landing on it's surface as he shrugged. "Sure, sounds like it could be interesting."
He hadn't competed in anything like that before, and in fact, rarely ever hit up the park with anyone other than himself. The entire situation was a new thing, but Z had wanted to see Derek's skills with the skateboard and figured this was probably as good an opportunity as any. Plus, it was a challenge. Z flicked his tongue piercing against his teeth before biting down on it lightly as he thought about the possible tricks he could do.
His gaze drifted over the others at the park, noticing that a few were still looking in their general direction. Hmm... More people participating would mean more changes to see tricks performed live that he could maybe incorporate into thrill-generating repertoire. With a jerk of his head in the direction of the others, Z posed the question. "Did you want to invite some of them to play, too?"
Absently doing an ollie, Z leaned into Derek's personal space as his head drifted mere inches away from the other boy's own. "We could both learn other things, too."

For a moment, Derek considered inviting a few others. It would certainly add a little more spice to their game. And as Z said, they might learn a few things in the process, which would always be a plus. So with a grin, he nodded quickly before waving over some of the others that were watching. He took a moment to explain the basics of the competition. Two of the skaters decided to sit out, but would like to judge and keep time. Two others, including the one loud mouth from before jumped into the challenge.
It amused Derek that the one guy decided to return. The loudmouth must have wanted to try and redeem himself or something like that. In any case, it should be interesting to see how things go.
So then they needed to come up with the course. The two that volunteered to judge decided to come up with the course to try and keep things more fair and such.
"Alright, start off at the top of that quarterpipe. Drop down and head over the bauer box over there. Then head towards the rails on the right, grind the first and make the jump to the second rail next to it. From there, hit the quarter-pipe and double back to the pyramid over there. Pick up some speed and hit the launch ramp before going to the half-pipe to perform three tricks. Once you land the third trick, the timer stops. Feel free to do any ground tricks inbetween the obstacles."
Listening closely, Derek nodded. It was a little much to remember but the skaters repeated it a few more times to help the competitors get it to stick.
"Alright, sounds good to me!" he said with a nod.

Z's eyes were half closed as he tilted his head back, mind absorbing the information. He'd always remembered things better when he either heard, or did them. Writing and reading was just a pain in the a**. It all sounded easy enough. He rocked back on his heels as he considered the route, playing it over in his head and trying to figure out the tricks he would do at each ******** it.
He nodded to the judges to acknowledge the route they'd decided upon, and with one quick push, he started towards the designated quarterpipe, his voice trailing on the air after him. "Guess I'll go first."
Not being particularly used to having to follow the directions of others, he found it a bit difficult to restrict his movements to follow the route, though he managed. The rail grind, predictably, gave him a bit of trouble - with his out-of-control wind element tossing him off almost immediately after he'd gotten on. Tossing in a couple of ollies during the travel time worked out, though - those were always fun. The freestyle tricks seemed to go alright, although Z wondered if he'd perhaps pushed the expectations a bit too far with his previous performance - having to do exactly three tricks took out some of the excitement, and that reflected in the difficulty level of his last jump.
Skating leisurely back towards the group after his run, Z flashed a semi-rueful grin. "Don't think I did too well, there."
