Jerard Phonne
Captain

PostPosted: Mon Aug 24, 2009 6:33 am

To say the very least, Jerard found the way this pair in particular had met to be... quite amusing. Brained in the head by your future partner? What a way to start. Like his son, however, Jerard was able to keep all of his thoughts from showing on his face, and the school administrator looked stern and serious as he steepled his fingers under his chin.

Leaning back in the big office chair, the man smiled indulgently at the two sitting in front of him. At least this meant that Aidan would no longer be on his case about his daughter. "I'm glad to see you two have paired up."

"Everything looks to be in order, and I am expecting great things from the two of you."

Nevermind that he said it to almost every pair that came in - it was true.

"Now that our meeting is concluded, I've assigned someone to show you around some of the areas of SHIBUSEN that you may not have had access to before, having not found each other. They'll find you outside, if you please."

Devon could hardly sit still in her place, so instead he made herself busy by shifting in her seat, playing with her hair or the various charms she was wearing around her hands. Her face expression had gained a constant smile extending from one ear to the next. Cameron next to her almost look like a statue, frozen in place. His eyes calmly inspecting the school administrator, while he payed attention to each spoken word.

"I'll protect her with my life, chief administrator..." he trailed off as a reply to the man's expectations. Before he had the chance to say anything more Devon had already shot up on her feet and was tugging at his arm.
"Move on! Move on!!! With your pace I'll grow old and have three kids and seven grandchildren before we get around to even seeing the new places!!!!" she exclaimed, nearly bouncing on place. Cameron gave up, nodding his head and he got on his feet with Devon still chirping next to him. He spared another couple of moments to look at Jerard and heaved a small sigh.

"Thank you, sir." he decided to show a bit of appreciation before he left himself to be swept away by Devon who pulled him to the door.

For once, Ashie was already outside Jerard's office, arriving before the pair had come out. She hoped. There was nobody in sight, so they should still be inside, right?

Right.

Her blue eyes lit up in happiness (and a foreign feeling that would have been called 'relief', had she known of it) as the new pair walked through the previously closed door. Waving enthusiastically, Ashie grinned. "Hi! You guys are Cameron and Devon, right?" Eyes flicking from one to another, a slightly perplexed expression crossed her face. "Usually I can guess which is which, but I'm not sure this time. Wanna tell me?" Ashie leaned forward, as if their identities was a secret that had to be whispered and not spoken aloud.

"I haven't met either of you guys before, so I guess you don't know me!" She giggled, thinking it was a funny statement. "I'm Ashie, one of the staff here at SHIBUSEN - though I rarely ever work with non-partnered students."

Taking a few steps down the hallway, she stopped, looking back at the pair. "By the way, before we start! Anywhere you guys want to see in particular?"

Cameron was about to introduce the two of them, saying who was who when he was jumped by Devon who rushed straight ahead before he could do anything to hold her and tell her it was not polite to jump people like that.

"Of course I know about you!!!!" Devon exclaimed. Cameron looked over at the two girls. Devon said of course so... the girl must be some sort of celebrity or student extraordinaire in order for the hyper teenager to get a liking to her.
"You're Ashley Laurent! The Death Scythe!" she exclaimed. "I featured you and your sister once in my blog!!!" Devon was impossible to stop. "I'm Devon! The tall, expressionless guy over there is Cameron!" she vividly painted Cameron's portrait a dull grey.

Cameron felt as if he just received a direct blow to the stomach. Not because he was described as expressionless -which was at least lame, if nothing- but because of what Devon said immediately before it. That tiny girl was... a Death Scythe? He made a good attempt not to scowl. One day he'd become stronger than her, he vowed that silently to himself. He difinitelly would. "It's very nice to meet you..." he finally trailed off.

"Totally!" Devon exclaimed at Ashie's last remark. "Show us to all the cool places first, k?"

Giggling a bit at the girl's enthusiasm, Ashie tilted her head. "You did! That's so cool! I'll have to tell Axie, I wonder if she knows?" Quite obviously, her near-celebrity status with the TECHNICIAN had absolutely no effect on her, as she hadn't once considered it to be something special. "Why'd you feature us?"

Looking over at Cameron, Ashie smiled. "You're not really expressionless, are you? It's nice to meet you too! Maybe we can work together sometime, since I'm allowed to run rank 1 missions now." As his words trailed off, she added, "Even shy or quiet is an expression, isn't it?" The question was directed at nobody in particular, but it was said loudly enough for all present to hear quite clearly. She decided that maybe, Cameron was just a quiet one, though Devon seemed to talk a lot. Which made her an easier target for Ashie.

"Sure!" She nodded enthusiastically at Devon's request. "Hmm... Okay!" Appearing to have reached some sort of internal decision, Ashie began to walk, heading towards one end of the corridor. "Everyone else seems to be super interested in the Missions HQ, for some reason." Her thoughts on this showed plainly on her face - what was so special about that place, anyway? All people did there was pick up missions, and nobody ever wanted to play. Not even Axie. Though... this route, they'd be walking past all the classrooms. Perhaps she could drop in on Lucien & Z? That was always fun.

Devon was practically beaming. In fact, if she could radiate light she would be shedding so much of it someone should probably place her in a high place to act as a second sun... or a beacon at least. "You are a death scythe remember!? Everybody in Shibusen knows about you~" Devon bounced backwards slightly trying to get Cameron to look a bit more enthusiastic but failing at it. Seriously now... where was this guy living all his life? Some sort of a wormhole that twisted time and space as much as for him not to know anything about... well, anything? Not to mention Ashie was being kind to him, saying all those things about him not really being expressionless and he was just standing there like some sort of grotesque scarecrow.

Cameron wanted many things at the moment. First and foremost was quiet, this little slice of pure bliss that was silence. He could understand the full meaning of the ancient Greeks having a god such as Harpocrates. He'd maybe have to teach Devon sometime soon... not that she'd be afraid to insult the god of silence by making her usual ruckus... maybe it was an already lost case and he'd have to simply give up for now. He didn't want to though. Thinking that maybe Devon would keep quiet a little bit if she was seeing all the new things he quickly nodded his head in agreement to Ashie's words about the Missions Headquarters. After all it really was a useful place for them, never mind that he was getting an odd feeling -just as if his intuition was trying to warn him about something-. Things being the way they were right now, Cameron simply chose to ignore it.

Devon giggled. "Even Cameron agrees~" she cooed. "Maybe we should go~"

Turning slightly to the right at the end of the corridor, Ashie paused. "Here..." she giggled and shrugged, "is where all the classrooms are! Even #7!" Twisting her body slightly so that she could see the faces of the participants in her little group, Ashie cocked her head before smiling charmingly. "You guys won't mind if I drop in for a second to say hi, right?"

As she headed down the corridor, absently pointing out the classrooms by number, she remembered the thread of the conversation she'd been having with Devon just mere seconds ago. "Of course I remember I'm a death scythe!" Her voice was slightly indignant - who could forget such a thing? "But.." genuine curiosity was evident in her entire manner as she considered Devon with quizzical blue eyes, "Why would everyone know about me? I'm just me!" Ashie bubbled.

Stopping in front of a pointedly unlabelled doorway, Ashie knocked briefly before opening the door and sticking her head in. "Hellooooooooooooooo!" The response from the other side was undecipherable to all but Ashie, whose head was stuck between the door and the doorway. "Oh! Okay then." Was Ashie's next words before she pulled her head out and shut the door behind her. "Well," there was a wide grin on her face as she shrugged her shoulders before half-skipping, half-walking down the rest of the hallway enthusiastically. "Looks like Lucien's busy. We can drop by later or somehing!"

"Now, the Missions HQ should be just around the corner..."

Devon became awfully silent all of a sudden, much to Cameron's surprise who never thought his prediction would be correct. Classroom #7 was maybe the most interesting place of them all for Devon. She had heard the stories, of course she had heard the stories- who hasn't, for one? It housed the strange underground shop which had been of no use or particular interest for Devon so long. What she was really interested in, though, was the person who ran said shop. Lucien Phonne son to Shinigami-sama's very assistant. Mention of that name was enough to make most girls sigh and daydream... with Devon the whole thing went a step further down to pure obsession.

Concerned with his Technician's sudden silence, Cameron frowned. He frowned even though it was clear he prefered the quietness in contrast to the previous... havoc. He could only guess it was about the second thing Ashie said, the one about the whole conversation of being a Death Scythe and the like. He thought about it, weighed the possibility and decided to jump in to make things a little smoother if possible. "Well..." he trailed off "It must be a bit awkward if everyone knows who you are..." he really wasn't a lot of help. He just failed at finding the right words. "I mean... everyone does what they must, right?"

Devon turned to him, surprised. "Huh?" it was a bit too obvious that she wasn't paying attention, lost in her own thoughts of ...who-knows-what-she-was-thinking... "Yeah, I guess..." she mumbled, unsure of what the conversation was about. She would bug Cameron about it later. For now she was more excited to get a chance to talk to Lucien. Ah, she would surely rave about it in her blog afterwards... but by what Ashie was saying it would seem he was busy. They'd come back later... but she couldn't but wonder what was it that kept her prince occupied like that. She felt a sting of jealousy towards... that unknown person or thing. A feeling that shouldn't have been there considering that it wasn't like she knew Lucien personally -at least yet, she promised herself-

Regaining her energy she literally bounced after Ashie down the hallway, pulling Cameron by the sleeve to have him follow her. "So, that's, like, where we pick all our missions, right?" she questioned with a grin. She'd make sure to train hard and go ahead and clear most of the missions before anyone else could! She'd be awesome like that... They'd be, she corrected herself. Both she and Cameron too since they were partners now.

Getting pulled after, Cameron frowned. Why did he even bother to worry already? He could swear that there was nothing that could phase her nor her enthusiasm. He found himself slightly amused at the realization.

Ashie, not being one of the best at following conversations herself, was completely oblivious to the blips in the thread of talk going on around her, finding them as normal as could be. "Awkward? Huh?" The word and its definition had never occurred to her, and a slight frown of confusion appeared on her face as she thought it over. "Oh! Umm.... No?" Ashie's voice trailed off as she became completely and utterly perplexed by the direction of the conversation. "What do you mean?"

Devon's words brought her back to their current situation, and Ashie beamed happily. "Yep! Mission pick-up, and everything else related to missions all happens here!" She giggled. "Some other stuff happen here too, but that's just normal." Pausing at the start of a new corridor, Ashie lifted an arm to point energetically in the direction of a few doors - some open, some closed - and a big, almost oversized board right at the end. "That's it, right there!" Skipping a few steps forward, Ashie did a quick 360 degree spin. "That supersized board over there is the thing everyone seems so interested in!"

Ashie wasn't quite sure why everyone wanted to see it, or use it, but all the pairs that she'd led around had seemed so excited in it that it had affected her as well. She was almost gushing with enthusiasm as she headed down the hallway, cheerfully pointing out the offices of the other Missions staff as they passed their doors. "Here's Axie's office... and Michael's office... and Arashi..."

A sudden thought struck her, and she stopped, eyes wide in slight dismay. "Oh no! I forgot to ask... Any questions?"
PostPosted: Mon Oct 12, 2009 12:59 am

Cameron blinked, losing track of the conversation himself when his question backfired when asked what he meant. He tried to pursue his own train of thought with little luck so he ended up standing there, not being able to reply. Just standing there... blinking... as a faint tinge of pink crept in his cheeks caused by the blood rushing to his head. "E-Eh..." he stammered unsure. "I... I..." he dropped his head to hide his amber eyes from both Ashie and Devon. He was, however unable to give his reply before Devon just had to butt in and pick up her conversation with the other female from where she left.

"Other stuff?" Devon questioned wearing her big, wide smile that extended from the one side of her face to the other. She could only just wonder what other stuff the girl meant. She'd bet her right hand... or maybe Cameron's right hand -she needed her own in order to play baseball after all- that it was all sorts of exciting things! She turned around to look at the offices Ashie was pointing at while nodding her head.
"No questions, chief!" she giggled. "Though... if the mission board is so popular maybe we should help decorate it a little..." she mumbled thoughtfully in a low tone only Cameron who was standing directly behind her could hear.

It gave the boy a slight heart attack. How it was possible for a person to appear SO interested in such a MINOR detail when they were talked with about serious things??? He brought his one hand up to touch his forehead -or hide his face- embarrassed on both their ends -since Devon didn't seem to mind so much-. "Uhm..." he mumbled before Devon could speak again -because he feared she'd say something stupid again. "How exactly do we register for missions, miss?" he questioned. "Also, is there a certain procedure for after finishing one as well?" his tone was clearly professional when he spoke however much he wanted to exasperate. Wasn't the Technician supposed to be also interested in this...?

"Oh, good question!" Ashie's response was cheery and automatic as she turned to face Devon, seconds before the content of aforementioned query actually registered in her mind. "Um..." Her face became a study in confusion for a few moments as she considered it, though finally, she simply shook her head. "You just pick it up, and then things happen! As for finishing... well, you get the soul, right?" The girl giggled before continuing, "Isn't that enough?"

Considering the difficulty of the last question, Ashie wasn't sure she wanted to be helpful anymore - what if the next one was even harder? "That's all for questions, then!"

Taking two steps to go, the Death Scythe paused. "Ah! That's all you guys needed to see, right?" Another giggle, as Ashie realized she'd completely forgotten the events of the past few moments. "I'll see you guys around, then!" With a last, happy wave, Ashie strode off and disappeared quickly around a corner.
