aka Absu, Abzu

He was the father who formed the first of the gods with Tiamat. He was slain and desecrated by their rebellious children. He is said to guard the underworld. He is seen as the abyss of fresh water under the Earth. In this he can be viewed as a gateway deity in some circles. He is also used in cleansing rituals.

We see him as a balancing force, for while he was alive Tiamat was appeased. It was only after his death that chaos broke loose as she vowed to avenge his death.
