RIDER INFORMATION Name: V’kain Age: 27 Sex: M Orientation: Hetrosexual Rank: Wingrider Physical Description: V’kain is toughly but not heavily muscled and possesses extremely dark skin, black hair cropped close to his skull, and very dark brown eyes. He is also just under five foot five inches tall. He is fairly easy to overlook not only for his height; there is a quietness about him that lends itself to blending in with a crowd. His usual expression is a soft gentle smile, and his usual attire is loose, comfortable, and predominately white or cream.
Personality: If you were looking for a calming influence of a rider, you came to the right place. V’kain is kind and quiet in pretty much any situation; a wonderful friend provided you’re not looking for a match in wits. What he lacks in brains however, he makes up in heart; he is almost completely selfless and would do anything for anyone to make them happy, because making people happy - especially his friends - is what makes him happy. Presents from V’kain are always thoughtful, and often more costly than one would think he could afford. All this loving, giving, and to put it bluntly lack of intelligence makes him very easy to take advantage of, and more than a few people have done so in the past. He’s no good at standing up for himself even when he does recognize he’s being used however, and relies on his real friends to give those who are just out for nice presents the shove.
V’kain is definitely a follower; he feels very uncomfortable being asked for solutions, or being looked at as somebody who might be able to lead in a pinch just because he rides a brown. When brainstorming is going on, you can guarantee that V’kain has gone down to the kitchens to fetch refreshments for the thinkers. He has an intense dislike of conflict and will do almost anything to avoid getting into an argument or a fight, unless that is you hurt his friends. Insults given to them he will ignore as he ignores insults directed at himself, but if you physically or emotionally hurt them, you can expect to be in for a world of hurt yourself; he might be small, but one of V’kain’s favorite pastimes is wrestling, and he is a force to be reckoned with in a fight.
He is perfectly happy to sit around doing very little for candlemarks at a time, making him a good candidate for watch rider, but equally when the time comes for running around like mad to get things done he will step up to the plate. Just so long as he has been told what to do (and his instructions do not include the word ‘improvise’) he is extremely reliable. In the same vein he can handle a crisis if he is told what to do or has done something similar in the past, but if the situation is new and he doesn’t have anyone to follow he’ll probably freeze up.

History: Vannakain’s mother was a simple drudge, and his father a journeyman fishercrafter. The pair lived on the western coast of Ista, and had been married for fifteen years before he - their first son - was born. The birth was difficult, and though Vannakain was healthy his mother died two weeks after his birth. Neither his mother or his father had any relatives in the hold, both having moved away from the places of their birth, and as such Vannakain was raised by the hold at large for the first few years of his life. He was never jealous of other children for having mothers, as he seemed to have scores of lovely kind women filling that role for him. Once he was old enough, he began to accompany his father on fishing trips and the pair got to know one another much better than they had before. During these days though Vannakain demonstrated skill at line fishing, it was clear that he was a very sweet boy but that he wasn’t exactly crafter material; he might have lasted as an apprentice but would never have gone further. It almost came as a relief to his father when a rider from Ista searched his kind but dim son at the age of twelve; though he did not want to be parted from his son, he was glad that he would have the chance to make something of himself.
For many turns and many hatchings Vannakain remained a hopeful candidate. He made friends easily, and though he loved the idea of becoming a rider it was not the be all and end all to him; if he turned twenty one without a dragon beside him, he would return home without fuss or drama. This, however, was not to be. In his seventeenth turn Vannakain was standing for yet another hatching: only three eggs remained on the sands, all so small that nobody making serious bets had wagered on them being anything but green or blue. The first of them to crack its shell was indeed a green, but when the second last shell almost exploded into fragments, the dragonet that clambered with its feet with an excited squeal was a tiny brown. Eye swirling between red with hunger and blue with joy at seeing such an exciting world, the hatchling stumbled over to the boys. After a moment of casting around, in which the last shell cracked to reveal a handsome blue, the small brown locked eyes with an equally small candidate, and he squealed again before leaping forward.
“V’kain Mine! Your Xerrineth is very hungry, and he wants to meet everyone, and everything is so big and wonderful!... Food first though, Yours is starving!”
That moment set the pattern for days to come; Xerrineth always wanted to see everything, meet everyone, and ask all of them a lot of questions. The Weyrlingmaster of the time found a very eager student in the small brown, and in his rider. They were never the best at anything but they worked hard, and genuinely wanted to know things, though Xerrineth did have a tendency to interrupt the flow of a lesson to ask a few hundred questions about related topics. When they graduated and were assigned to a wing, Xerrineth remained tiny for his colour having the strengths and weaknesses of a blue rather than a brown. Being assigned blue positions in drills got both of them teased quite a lot, but neither ever minded the jabs; they were valuable members of the wing just like every dragon, and that was all that mattered. To this day they are an object of ridicule to some, but they take it in their stride as much as they ever have. Oh, and yes, Xerrineth still asks as many questions as he always has too.
Pets: None; he keeps meaning to save up for a flitt egg but ends up spending the marks on other people somehow.
Other/Talents: Excellent wrestler and fisherman (line fishing). Is roomates with green rider L’thor.
Picture: (if you have one)
DRAGON INFORMATION Name: Xerrineth Color: Brown Physical Description: Xerrineth is small and lightly built, so much so that in a wing he flies the position of a largish blue rather than a brown; from nose to tailtip he measures around twenty eight feet. He is the colour of polished mahogany, his wingsails are slightly darker than the rest of his body, and his forelegs are brindle marked: the effect is rather reminiscent of wood grain. His eyes are most often an enthusiastic bright blue; if ever a dragon could grin with excitement at how interesting the world around him is, this one would do it.
Personality: The world is fantastic! Wow, what’s that? Can we go and see what it is? Why do glowbaskets work? Will this brown ever stop asking questions?... No, no he won’t. He isn’t the brightest or dumbest of dragons, but he might just be the most curious; Xerrineth loves to be told things, to investigate things, and to explore. He likes everyone in the whole world too, save people who are cruel to his rider of course; they can expect a good hissing at. Everyone else however will have a small brown nose poked into whatever they’re doing at some point or other in their acquaintance with him, probably a lot more than just once. His curiosity and enthusiasm endear him to many, but frustrate many as well; even most of those who usually like this him wouldn’t want to talk to him after a long hard day.
Xerrineth is not an ambitious dragon, oh no! He wouldn’t be much good as a leader at all, he recognizes that he’s not the most responsible of dragons and would much rather have a steadier head telling him what to do in drills, and eventually during Threadfall. Flying a queen couldn’t be further from his mind but he does like to chase greens, as much for the excitement of the chase as out of hopes he will win; he takes losing with equanimity, there will always be more flights after all! There are however a few greens in the Weyr with whom he is especially enamored, and when another dragons catches one of them he is somewhat disappointed and resolves to try harder the next time they rise.
Xerrineth could never feature in a deep and meaningful story about the struggles of littlest brown dragon; he doesn’t seem to understand the concept of being sad for more than two seconds together, or wishing to be anything other than what and how he is. He loves to try to cheer up people who look down, but his lack of understanding of what it’s like to be truly unhappy means that if it’s a big problem he’s more likely to make it worse than better with his boisterous approach. Fooling around or going for a nice fly don’t fix everything, but he doesn’t quite seem to realize that: the world is great after all, what is there to be unhappy about?

V'kain seems like somewhat of an odd match on a brown, when it seems like he'd be far more comfortable on a Blue, personally.
I'm also a little hesitant on the idea that the dragon is summoning random (and correct) trivia from thin air without being able to say where it came from. Unless it's coming from V'kain (who you noted as being 'dim' in the keywords) Then I'm personally uncomfortable with it without some better explanation on how the dragon is getting even trivial information.

^^ Okay, that wasn't an important thing so I can take it out. I'd considered that he might be better off with a blue, but I think I already mentioned that L'thor's roomate was a brown rider. I might just go ahead and ignore that fact though XD
EDIT: Y' know, I think I will. The more I think about it the more... speshul he feels XD Not really suited to a brown, and riding a brown that is decidedly abnormal.

He’s no good at standing up for himself even when he does recognize he’s being used however, and relies on his real friends to give those who are just out for nice presents the shove.
He hates to be alone for more than a few minutes at a time, and fears losing his friends more than anything else in the world. Though he isn't easily injured by things people he isn't close to say about him, he takes anything said by someone he considers a friend to heart. Even if he is being teased in fun, he tends to wonder if they might really mean what they're saying. He is especially insecure about his less than average intelligence, and jabs of that nature, or even a joking 'you idiot' when he's done something or said something a bit silly hurt him deeply. However, as his response to being upset is to go quiet, and he's quiet anyway, it isn't easy for most to notice unless they know him very well.
V’kain is definitely a follower; he feels very uncomfortable being asked for solutions, or being looked at as somebody who might be able to lead in a pinch if for some reason all the other riders around him had greens. When brainstorming is going on, you can guarantee that V’kain has gone down to the kitchens to fetch refreshments for the thinkers. He has an intense dislike of conflict and will do almost anything to avoid getting into an argument or a fight, unless that is you seriously hurt his friends. While he can react to any other situation with calm, hurting his friends brings to the surface a very small, but very violent part of his personality, and while he might be small one of V’kain’s favorite pastimes is wrestling: he is a force to be reckoned with in a fight. It must be noted, however, that you have to really, seriously have crossed the line to get him angry. Beating one of his friends up or making fun of a sore subject won't do it, you would have to do something really, truly, unspeakably low to be on the receiving end of V'kain's anger.
He is perfectly happy to sit around doing very little for candlemarks at a time, making him a good candidate for watch rider, but equally when the time comes for running around like mad to get things done he will step up to the plate. The pair lived on the western coast of Ista, and had been married for fifteen years before he - their first son - was born. The birth was difficult, and though Vannakain was healthy his mother died two weeks after his birth having lost a lot of blood, and then taken a fever a few days later. Neither his mother or his father had any relatives in the hold, both having moved away from the places of their birth, and as such Vannakain was raised by the hold at large for the first few years of his life. As he never knew his mother Vannakain felt the loss less keenly than he might otherwise have done, but the lack made him keen to follow anyone who showed him affection at an early age. Luckily for him there were plenty of women willing to give him attention when they had time, but this tendency to trail around after people who showed him kindness never faded. Unfortunately, it also took (and still takes) him a long time to pick up the difference between the people who were genuinely being nice to him, and the people who had figured out if they pretended to be his friend, they could get things from him. Even when he did work it out, he was never able to stop himself from being nice to people who seemed friendly on the surface.
Once he was old enough, he began to accompany his father on fishing trips and the pair got to know one another much better than they had before. This, however, was not to be. In his seventeenth turn Vannakain was standing for yet another hatching: only three eggs remained on the sands. The first of them cracked in a dignified manner, and turned out to be a lovely pale green. The second last egg was rather more energetic; after rocking for a moment or two it fairly exploded into fragments to reveal a striking blue. Eye swirling between red with hunger and blue with joy at seeing such an exciting world, the hatchling stumbled over to the boys. After a moment of casting around, in which the last shell cracked to reveal another lovely green, the excitable hatchling locked eyes with a small candidate and squealed again before leaping forward.

His curiosity and enthusiasm endear him to many, but frustrate many as well; even most of those who usually like Xerrineth wouldn’t want to talk to him after a long hard day. If there's one thing this dragon can be in very large doses, if you're in the wrong mood, or if you're just the wrong person, it's sharding annoying.
Xerrineth is not an ambitious dragon, oh no! He wouldn’t be much good as a leader of any kind at all, he recognizes that he’s not the most responsible of dragons and would much rather have a steadier head telling him what to do in drills, and eventually during Threadfall. He isn’t too particular about who he follows; so long as they’re confident and competent he’ll follow any colour dragon of any age.
He tends to be a follower outside of drill situations as well, and is utterly convinced that his particular friends are the best dragons there are; chances are if one of them suggests he should go and do something he will, and without thinking it through for himself. In fact, he does quite a lot of things without first thinking them through; this dragon is far from wise, and over the turns he has managed to injure himself and others several times in his haste to investigate something, or while trying out a stunt he saw a green pull off with ease.
His lack of common sense also causes him to put his foot in his mouth at regular intervals; asking awkward, inappropriate, or just plain rude questions of anyone at all is quite commonplace. He gets somewhat huffy if shouted at for asking a question even if it was the umpteenth question he had asked that person, even if he asked a hefty gold why she's so fat. His general response (provided he hasn't been thoroughly whipped into line) is to say 'I was only asking!' before flouncing off to sulk in a corner. It takes a lot of soothing from his rider to bring him back to his normal chirpy self, and on occasion the process has taken a couple of days, during which time he has refused to do anything at all unless directly ordered by one of the larger dragons.
Xerrineth loves to chase greens, as much for the excitement of the chase as out of hopes he will win; he takes losing with equanimity, there will always be more flights after all! There are however a few greens in the Weyr with whom he is especially enamored, and when another dragons catches one of them he is somewhat disappointed and resolves to try harder the next time they rise. Other: Why V’kain? Let’s face it, it would take a very patient rider to deal with Xerrineth’s boundless energy and capacity for question-asking, and V’kain has patience in spades. He also has the ability to calm his excitable lifemate down (a little) when he really starts getting out of hand, and while V'kain might not be bright, he does have a decent amount of sense and is able to keep Xerrineth from doing anything too stupid, provided he notices what the blue is planning in time that is. Xerrineth’s energy and curiosity have led to V’kain working harder to understand new ideas over the turns, and though he hasn’t exactly become a genius he does know a good deal more than he would have done had the pair not come together.
They are both very sure of their place, that place being wherever the person in charge tells them to go, and this mutual preference for following saves both of them being dragged forward on an imagined path to greatness by a partner with greater ambition. The blue is also happy to accommodate his rider's need to always be in company; when they have to part ways for V'kain to go and eat or some such, Xerrineth keeps up a near constant running commentary of whatever chatter comes to mind. Though they share the trait of friendliness, Xerrineth has rather more brass than his rider and will leap to protect him from anyone who might try to take advantage of his generous nature.

Hmm. All in all, he's a good concept! I just have a couple nitpicky things.
Firstly, you say that's he's calm and quiet. Now, with a calm and quiet personality, I can't see him getting into a wrestling match to try and defend a friend's honor/word/what-have-you. I would imagine a calm, quiet, follower to get up and leave the area, attempting to bring his friend(s) along with him, AWAY from confrontation rather than jump in and start something physical.
Second, why did his mother die? Complications from the birth? Sudden sickness? That isn't mentioned, and the death of a mother is a major thing. I would be hard-pressed to find someone who grew up without a mother who was not affected by it, in the slightest.
Hmmm. Does Xerrineth have any faults? From what I can see, he's a fairly level blue. He's happy, eager to learn, curious, and more than happy to follow. Is he prone to ever being moody? What are some things that will set him off- does it bother him when another dragon or rider pulls rank, and thinks they're better because of their color/higher rank?
I think that's it!
