CH Murder
Rank: One
Antagonist: Swiss Mountain Climber
NPC Accompaniment: Yes
Souls available: User Image
Mission: SUCCESS/FAILURE

It was early dawn, and the air had enough bite to it that Michael wore a long sleeve pullover over he rest of his monochromatic clothing. He'd never been to the mountains before in the summer, but it wasn't all that different. Grass instead of snow, heat instead of cold. It was simply a static environment in which weapons and technicians alike would be able to prove themselves to the world. At least it was deserted enough to make collatoral damage a small possibility.

Standing under the shade of the log cabin, he stared down the only path that existed to get up this far to the mountain. He was completely prepared for whatever inept pair he would be dealing with today. A massive first aid kit, three copies of the mission in case they hadn't done their homework, and a change of clothes. The last time someone had pissed himself during the mission... well. He didn't like to think about that for too long.

He looked down at the file he had in front of him, frowning. Twins, huh? Show offs. Not that he minded twins. He boss was one, and she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself and the entire school, if need be (her sister on the other hand... hah). Still... this wasn't their first mission, so he didn't feel all too nervous. If they'd succeeded once, surely they'd succeed a second time. Surely it hadn't been a fluke of some sorts.

Right. Well, he was here to stand in if need be.

Now where were they?

The twins had picked a pretty good second mission, in a certain sense. After their bloody disaster of a first mission, Kang Ling had been jumpier than ever. The Queen of Hearts may have not stolen it, but she had done a few hard blows to Kang’s fragile heart. The big question here now was whether she would have the will to strike down another person after going through that gruesome mess.

By chance or otherwise, Caine and Rainer had picked out a particularly chilly mission. The California-raised girl unused to snowy weather, she was shivering in her snow clothes, teeth chattering. Mind focused entirely on the cold, Kang Ling could barely think about their first mission and having to kill another person.

Currently, the trio was trekking through the snow, heading towards their meeting point. A twin on each side of the TECHNICIAN, she hunched forward and tightly hugged herself, trying to think warm thoughts and ignore the fact that it was so cold. On the other hand, both the boys had often vacationed to snowy spots, so they were perfectly fine with the weather, happily walking along Kang Ling.

Rainer jumped forward and turned around, effectively walking backwards now. “Don’t fret, Kang Ling! Just ignore the weather, ‘kay?” he chirped.

She silently nodded her head, her breath coming out in short, evanescent, wispy puffs of cold grey. Although Kang Ling wasn’t sure if she could fully utilize that piece of advice, it felt too dang chilly! Finally spotting the log cabin up ahead, the twins exchanged a look and grabbed Kang’s arm, one each. She shrieked when they began to race towards the meeting point and vainly tried to keep up with their speed before eventually letting them drag her there.

Once they saw Michael, they released their hold on their TECHNICIAN and she plopped down into the snow. Caramel eyes timidly looking up at their staff accompaniment, she squeaked out, “A-A-Are w-we la-late?

Michael picked up on the small figures trudging up the mountain before he could hear the shriek. Seeing them suddenly pick up speed and race towards his direction... well, there was something almost comical about it. Were they actually... dragging their technician?

"No, you're not." he responded curtly, eyeing the girl. She looked like she was freezing! Would she be able to handle the cold long enough to survive the mission? Well. Exercise did have a habit of warming people up, so as long as he had her moving quickly... he nodded his greeting at the trio. "Kang, Rainer and Caine." it wasn't really a verification (two French boys and a Chinese girl, his file said. It was hard to believe someone would come here by mistake.) but a statement as he gestured to his mountain. "Do you need time to review the mission?"

He wasn't a bad man, really. He liked to think so anyways. So it was with some trepidation that he watched the young girl. She looked scared! Maybe he should warm her up with a ... cocoa or something. Thats what good, caring mentors did, right? Damn it. He missed the days when technicians didn't look like lamb.

When he told her that they were on time and not, in fact, late, Kang Ling breathed a sigh of relief. She relaxed her awkward sitting position and eventually stood back up, brushing the snow off of her pants and gloves. Heartbeat easing back into its usual rhythm, the chill started to set in once more. It wasn’t like until the frail Chinese was hugging herself once more and teeth noisily clattering against each other.

Worried that his TECHNICIAN’s health could take a turn for the worse, Rainer silently motioned for Kang Ling to move around, such as doing jumping jacks or run in place. Unable to muster out the words to reply, she simply nodded her head and began to jog in place, Caine watching on with an amused glimmer in his dark blue eyes.

The girl a bit busy trying to warm herself up, Rainer took over. “Yup! That’s us,” he answered in an optimistic tone, “No sir, Mr. Michael! We already reviewed the mission before hand.

Eyes wandering over to the lone trail up the mountain, he pointed at it. “We just have to walk up that trail and we’ll meet our target, right?” Rather than wait for the answer, the eager WEAPON pulled his TECHNICIAN and twin along towards it. “Let’s go you guys!

Michael watched the girl jog in place with an expression that was amused and resigned. Good thing she had two technicians to bolster her, then. And one of them seemed perfectly capable of taking care of the others. A good balance. The eagerness in his eyes was nice to see: good to know one of these many weapons understood being prepared for a mission. Now this was what it was supposed to be like!

He nodded his head, motioning up the pathway. "The target is known remain in the mountains near his most recent kill until the afternoon when tourists are known to arrive the most." he hesitated. "Be... careful. This man is known to use his size to his vantage, but since most of his victims are taken by surprise and don't know how to fight back..." well. It couldn't go too badly, right?

They seemed to know what they were doing.

Up ahead in the mountains, a distant echo of a yodle could be heard. It was far enough to mean that they were still in the safety zone, but close enough that it would not take them long to find the target.

It wasn't a grusome sight. A man dressed in gigantic bright orange hiking jacket over a ridiculous parody of a traditional swiss costume. Sitting in front of a camp fire and casually sharpening a pick ax, if not for the fact that he was sitting on the decomposing body, it would have been easy to question if they had the right man.

To be honest, reviewing the mission had all been Kang Ling’s idea. The most responsible and studious of all three, she was always prepared for whatever she was about to embark on, and this included school missions. Perhaps the trio did have a good balance. Rainer took care of them both, protection-wise, Kang Ling took care of everyone (housewife-wise, of course), while Caine smacked some cynicism into the other two. Yeah. It was a great combination.

Had they been doing their mission in a warmer place, the female TECHNICIAN would have stuttered back a reply and quick thanks for the advice. Although secretly wondering if she could have the strength to take on someone said to be so large, she was confident that at least the trio would not be caught off guard. If anything, she liked to consider dodging at a second’s notice to be a skill of hers, pathetic as it may have sounded.

An echoing cry in the distance (a yodel, was it called?), Rainer urged the other two to hurry along. Although not the closest thing around, they certainly weren’t a ways away. Unlike the previous time, the sight was quite normal, actually. For a moment, Kang Ling believed that this was not the man they were looking for and was about to continue on when Caine’s arm shot out and stopped her. “Look again,” he whispered. She did and was shocked to see that the large man was sitting on a dead body. This was definitely who they were looking for.

Wordlessly shifting into their WEAPON forms, Kang stepped forward, a fan in each hand. Concentrating only on her target, she had forgotten about the cold. Then she leapt and swung.

The figure looked up at the very last moment and his expression shifted into an ugly snarl. He ducked at the very last moment, pushing back from the makeshift seat and heaving it in the direction of the attacking technican with his feet. But he wasn't fast enough, and the instinctive movement had the pick axe spinning out of his hand onto the snow to his side.

"You little--" the curse was caught off as the target tried in vain to scrabble to his feet. But having someone attack him so quickly had caught him off guard, because it took him some time to stand.

His height was indeed towering: the large, brute force that would probably be intimidating to a lone figure in the mountains. His eyes narrowed as he stared at his opponent.

Kang Ling had secretly been hoping that he would have been caught off guard enough to die right then and there, but she knew that was wishful thinking. Mind racing with thoughts about wondering what her target’s next course of action would be, she had no time to think about the fact that she was going to kill another person. Rather, the girl was worried about trying not to get chopped by his axe because then it would be game over, permanently.

She heard him gruffly mutter at her and she pursed her lips before quickly shaking her head, face obscured by her hood and goggles. There was no time to be perturbed by a murderer’s words towards her! This was a mission and she had to focus.

Now officially engaged in battle, Kang finally realized just how large this man was and it made her stomach go queasy. Would she really be able to find the strength to eliminate him? She certainly hoped so or this mission would be a failure. Kang Ling didn’t want that.

He stared down at her frail form while she stared up at his towering figure. There was no time to ogle, however, and she leapt forward once more, both arms pulled back so that she could strike with both fans.

The target let out a snarl when Kang Lin leapt in his direction, and instinctively ducked back. He was too slow however, and one of the fans managed to slice across one of his beefy arms, letting out a spray of blood. Further angering the man, the snarl shifted into a roar of anger as he stumbled back, clutching the wounded arm.

Stumbling and grasping for his pick axe, he scrabbled and raised it awkwardly: clearly his 'good' arm had been hurt. Maybe this would provide the trio with the opportunity to slay him then? He raised the weapon and lunged in Kang's direction: but maybe if she was quick enough, she'd be able to use the man's momentum against him?

Michael looked up when he heard the snarl and slowly started jogging towards the direction of the noise. Hopefully nothing too bad had happened yet. The size difference in the technician and the target worried him, but he had full confidence in Kang: after all, they wouldn't have let her out otherwise, right? ... Right?

Breaths came out in quick, short puffs of mist and she stared at him as he retreated, growling and snarling at her like an animal would. It unnerved the small girl to see a human act so beastly. Kang Ling was rather unused to such behavior and she vaguely wondered how exactly this murderer came to be, acting so much like a wild animal. Well, there was no use pondering about his history when she was set to claim his soul today.

He scrambled for his axe and awkwardly lifted it with his arm. His dominant hand arm had obviously been injured. What a stroke of luck.

May I kindly remind you to attack, Kang Ling? You shouldn’t be dilly dallying!’ Caine’s voice sharply rang in her mind. ‘Don’t be so rough! She’s got lightning-fast reflexes so it’s all good.’ countered Rainer.

Well, Caine had a point there, so Kang prepared for her next attack. A breeze blowing, she hoped this would be the final blow. Swirls of wind dancing around the blue and yellow fans, she jumped and did a double slash.

The target lunged in Kang's direction a little bit later than the technician chose to attack. The movement sent him careening into the direction of the fans and although he reached by slashing vainly at the two WEAPONS, it was a touch too slow: the action opened him up to the double slash and Caine and Rainer found their targets.

The two fans cut into a bright orange parka and then through flesh. The scream that met the wounds was loud and piercing, more like a wounded animal than a human. Maybe it was better to think of this as a beast, than a man. Blood sprayed in a wide arc as the target fell back, and for a moment seemed to be frozen in place before exploding into pieces of orange and crimson.

The pick axe fell listlessly onto the snowy ground, nothing more than a simple tool now. A red soul floated in the place where the man had been, it's glow a cruel mimic of blood that was sprinkled on the snow.

Michael had been watching from the edges of the little clearing, and feeling a sense of relief nodded his head. "Good job." It had been quite surprising to see the the reflexes of this young technician. "Mission complete." would the other WEAPON take the soul then, since the brother had already consumed his? Perhaps. He turned around to give the trio a little bit of privacy. "I've got clothes in the cabin if any of you want to clean up."

She was a bit embarrassed to admit this, but this mission experience had been a vast improvement from the last. Nothing traumatizing had occurred. At the mention of a second change of clothes, Kang Ling glanced down to her clothes and noticed the small splatters of blood. Her eyes widened and her face immediately paled, but that was all. Heart rapidly beating against her chest, she wondered if it would fall out. A deep breath and the beats slowed down to a regular rhythm.

The twins shifted back into their human forms and eagerly trotted over to the glowing soul as it lazily bobbed up and down. Already figuring out that they would be following a pattern, Caine slid his hands into his pockets, back hunched. “Hurry up and take it, Rainer!” he called out, impatient.

Chuckling at his brother’s antics, Rainer cleanly picked up the soul and played around with it, flashily showing off basketball tricks. Hands moving skillfully, it was unsurprising to see that he had collected the soul in the middle of another trick. He playfully pretend to smirk smugly. “I’ve got skills.

The girl giggled and she shook her head at the Death Scythe. “W-W-We’re f-fi-fine!” She gestured towards her WEAPONs and laughing and giggling, they walked down the mountain trail.
