Bio: In life Joe was your typical average high school student, he was although obsessed over bubble gum, which was displayed by his grades, all B's, standing for, in his mind, bubble gum. He was walking past the track team after the last day of his 3rd year, and was somehow killed by a random javelin to the neck thrown by one of the jocks on the track team. But he was accidentally avenged when another track team member turned to see this accident and gave a javelin to the student who killed Joe in through the chest, striking through his heart. A konso was performed on him about a day after.
Then Joe lived in the Rukongai just like any other freshly picked soul, and was quickly recognized for having exceptional spiritual pressure, for a fresh soul that is. He was practically forced into the Shinigami Academy, and even there, his obsession for bubble gum lived on, even getting him in trouble, but he could somehow manage to perform kidou just fine with his mouth multitasking between incantations and chewing gum.
Not to say though, that there wasn't anything dark about Joe. In the human world on last trip to the human world as a student, some of his classmates had a real issue with his habits, they tried taking his bubble gum from him. Now as an addict, Joe knocked them around a bit, blood was spilled but nothing serious. They left him in his lonesome, fine with him, until an oddly strong Hollow came before him. He had requested back up through a communicator but as he kept running from this Hollow nothing came, in fact the area was just his reiatsu and the Hollow. They had left him behind. Just as he approached the hollow a strange man appeared before him and with one fierce cut of his sword vanquished the hollow. The man then turned to the Joe with a smile and offered him a piece of gum. The man had saved Joe from the powerful hollow, and more importantly, had offered him his favorite type of gum. Bubblegum Joe from then on greatly admired this mysterious man named Kuro. This man then offered Joe a chance to get back at those who had left him to die. Kuro was the leader of an organization known as the Order of the Black Flame. He asked Joe to become a spy for this organization.
