ok, so i've been working on this book for at least three years now, and i'm in a huge slump as for what to write next. my main characters are made, the setting and plot, but i just don't know what to do next. plz halp!

Story: basically, it's the story of a 19-year-old girl 39 years in future italy who killed her old boyfriend in a rage one day, tried to bring him back from the dead using pagan magic, and accidentally brought back a demon with the same name as the dead boyfriend, and tricked her into believing he was her late boyfriend. they make a deal, the demon saying he needs her to kill 702 people and from each body take a different piece for him to put together and make a "human suit," in which he could survive as a human again, but would actually be a homunculus.
All the while, the girl, Erin, has had a history of serial killer-like characteristics to her (burning stuff, hating animals (except for rats), etc.), so killing all these people wouldn't be a big deal, aside from the fact that there's now a specialized organization that deals with every kind of criminal and deals with them from a psychological standpoint, working alongside the police. And besides that, there's another guy that Erin thinks she's starting to fall in love with because he looks alot like her dead boyfriend, Kain, and he too has a demon at his side, but she doesn't know it.

So anyway, that's the basic jist of my story. im really hoping to be finished with it before the end of the year, and would be xd if anyone would help. Of course, they would get credit for anything they come up with. Thank you! heart

That's ingenious! I think I have some ideas...

How about since this girl is only human (I know you clarified that killing doesn't bother her, but...) she should have at least some internal conflict to killing. That would make it much less interesting than "Oh, I need to kill people. Oh, look. I killed people."

The demon should also have some sort of flaw, such as, I don't know, not being able to walk in daylight, or something. Or having terribly bad breath.

The more of a challenge you make for the characters to accomplish their goal, the more interesting it will be. There should also be another standpoint, such as that of police investigating.

Just make lots of conflict. And make them accomplish some of their goal at least, and don't wait for the end. If they reach the goal in the middle of the story, make a new conflict but don't lead the plot off on too much of a tangent. Make something very interesting happen in the middle, though, like a turning point or a change in one of the characters.

And by the way, don't have flat characters. Make them change throughout the story. Make them interesting. And don't make any 'bad guy' too evil. This just destroys the point.

And good luck! I'm almost done with my story, and it doesn't sound nearly as interesting. sweatdrop

Yeah, i tried adding as much to my characters as i could based on people i know in my family and high school.

One thought I had for Erin was that she would be a project for Russians to raise their children to be Chinese-killing machines (kinda like what Sparta used to do), and Erin would be stuck between the teachings of her real parents and her foster-parents. Other than that, she would take on the persona of a normal young woman with a knack for serial-killer habits (burning, detatchement, etc.)

I had an idea for the demon, too (whom I've dubbed Kriss, after a dead friend of mine). He wouldn't be able to interact with the mortal world unless he possessed a body, but only people with weak wills, so for example, he couldn't possess anyone from the Supreme Court or the Psychological oranization I mentioned earlier, for instance. Plus, whenever he did, the body would begin to rot itself and would only be around for a few minutes before becoming worm food. And who knows, we could make him start to fall in love with Erin a little too.

But as for the police and Psychological organization (don't have a name for it yet), that's where I put all my ideas for the colorful characters every anime has (like L from Death Note, Ed from Bebop, an autistic old man would acts like a four-year-old when not on his meds, etc.) There's nine of them total, and I have a list of them lying somewhere in my notebook (where all my mad ideas are unholily brought to the Earth XD), and I'll have them put up here and on my Facebook soon.

Did I miss anything? Oh well, if anyone comes up with anything, please say so. Your voices won't be scorned or snuffed, and will be happily anticipated!
