>>Date: March 13, 2379. >>Time: 0759 >>ISTA Headquarters, Virginia >>BEGIN ENTRY: ALPHA-TANGO-139482 >>Success! With a nervous anticipation, we watched our monitors, waiting for any sign that something gone wrong. We check, and double checked, and triple checked, but there was nothing! We've done it! Man has finally gone past its own solar system. Communications will be hard to monitor, but we believe our subspace relay satellites will keep us in good contact with the Griffin and her crew as she carries the first voyage of humans outside the far reaches of our sun's gravitational field. Oh what a joyous day, and a joyous hour this is in the spectrum of mankind. Any moment now, we will be receiving our first update from the Griffin's crew, and it will be the last for many months until the Griffin reaches the next satellite, left there nearly half a century earlier. The excitement in this room. You should feel it! It's unlike anything I've ever seen before! >>END OF LOG.

The Griffin was supposed to check in over two days ago, and still there is nothing. So here I sit at a monitor, the light from it nearly blinding me in contrast to the surrounding darkness. All around me is the hum of a thousand machines, collecting their data and running their tests, but the monitors are all off. All save this one. And it's blank. >>I'm losing hope that the Griffin will contact me. It's been two days. They're probably lost, or have forgotten and already moved past the relay satellite. That must be it. Still, I can't help but hear the rumors in the streets, and even some of my comrades begin to believe it. The children sing their rhyme as if it were nothing, but it gets to us, sinking to our minds and hearts and creating a fear that we didn't know was possible. It's been five years since the last update. A lot can happen in five years. >>Ha. I must be getting tired. My thoughts keep drifting. Perhaps I'll take a short nap. Besides, I'm sure the Griffin won't contact me in the next 15 minutes. What's the harm? >>END OF LOG.

It is certainly much faster. After only sixteen days, the Revenant has reached the edge of the solar system. Now, they begin a quest to retrace the steps of the Griffin in hopes of finding out what happened. New satellites have been set up using unmanned vessels to ensure that we can keep in contact with the Revenant's crew. Reports are scheduled ever few months, rather than years now. >>ANYTHING ELSE? >>No, AISLIN. That will be all. >>AFFIRMATIVE. AISLIN GOING OFFLINE...
The woman leaned back in her chair, a heavy sigh escaping her cracked lips. There was something wrong with this picture. Something very wrong. The search for the Revenant was discontinued after "no communication with the Revenant" in over a month. According to the log, a communication had come in only the day before. What was going on here? There had to be more to the message. The woman bit her lip, and it bled again. She'd had to hack and bypass countless security systems to dig up that message from the Revenant, was it possible there was more, hidden away in some other corner of cyberspace. She sighed again, not wishing to have to spend more countless weeks searching for it. She was tired, and needed to rest. She reached over to a small switch, pressing a button to bring up the holographic display, and began to type.

The year was 2379, and the human race had never known such excitement. Recently united, it was only a matter of time before the boundaries of space began to break. The first step was Neil Armstrong reaching the moon in 1969. Next came Mars in 2051. By 2265, we'd reached Neptune and Pluto. Ten years later, we were exploring the Kuiper Belt. Even with all these great accomplishments, man was still left with a single unanswered question: Are we alone? More ships left Earth, though none of them manned, each set to find a location in space where it would remain as a relay satellite for messages. The path was laid, now only the technology was missing. A century later, and man found a way to travel out of the solar system within a lifetime. In 2379, the mission was ready. Only the bravest signed up, as there was no coming back. By the time they reached their destination and turned around, the chances of getting back before they succumbed to old age were slim.
We waited years between updates, though to those men and women who had climbed aboard a ship called the Griffin, it had been only months. Mankind sat on the edges of their seats, waiting for that next update. When they were scheduled, billions gathered around to hear the reports. It was like this until 2402, when the calls stopped coming. We waited, but there was nothing. Children began to sing a rhyme of the Griffin's disappearance. It seemed that man had given up.
In 2437, new technologies had been made, allowing even faster travel. The Revenant was unveiled as a ship fast enough to reach where the Griffin was supposed to go and come back within thirty years. This time many volunteered, but only the best were selected. They left, and once again humanity found itself clinging to their video screens for updates. Three years later, the radios went silent once again. Man decided space was not for them, and so they gave up hope of ever finding other lifeforms out in the galaxy.
It's almost seven decades later, and one woman believes the government knows more than they're saying, and he aims to find out what. She knows Earth received a message from the Revenant, and no one was ever told. As the commander of a shuttle service between Earth and Mars, she's been building a new ship. One with the capabilities that exceed the Revenant's. With it, she plans to gather a crew and find out just what happened to the two ships. She gathers her team in secret, recruiting the brightest and the bravest to come along. What she doesn't know is that the government has found out about her rogue mission, and has sent a ship of his own to ensure that whatever she finds stays hidden...

[ One ] Be smart! Follow the Gaia ToS, as well as the guild rules. This includes literacy. I'd like decent posts of at least three paragraphs.[ Two ] Characters. Each person is allowed 2 main characters. You are free to create NPC's, as long as there are still open NPC slots on that ship.[ Three ]Joining. Fill out the form in the "Cast" post, and post it in the OOC. There is no real profile, as the basis for main characters is already laid out, and minor characters are, well, minor. Character development can all be done during the actual RP.[ Four ]Have Fun. I want this to be a fun RP for everybody. Please follow all instructions and be nice to your fellow Role Players, even if your character is the universe's biggest jerk.

Characters have 20 skill points, which are distributed over seven categories. Each category can have a maximum of five points in it, to start. For information on how the skill points are used, please refer to the System post further down the thread. The categories are as follows:
Vitality: This refers to a character's health and stamina. Esentialy, how long a character's energy will last when running, working under heavy physical conditions, or fighting. Strength: How strong a character is. Deals with strength including carrying heavy objects, fighting, etc. Speed: How fast a character is. Also refers to agility of a character. Sanity: How much "weird stuff" a character can handle before they reach the breaking point. Intelligence: How logical a thinker the character is. This refers to how well they can think up solutions to a problem both under regular conditions and under stress. Stealth: How sneaky a character is. This refers to both being able to go about without being notices, and also has ties into lying and smooth talking their way in/out of things. Luck: Some people are just luckier than others. That's what this number shows.
Welcome Aboard The Wyndrunner Registration Code: Sierra-Zulu-4729 Class: Civilian Transport Vessel Capacity: 45 Current Personnel and Passengers: 20 Crew Roster The Commander Naya Mills ● 32 ● Female
"Do you know what's worth fighting for? When it's not worth dying for? Does it take your breath away And you feel yourself suffocating?"
Brilliant, this is the woman that figured out that pieces to the puzzle were missing. She's committed a dozen felonies in order to come to the conclusion that there was some sort of cover up, and now she'll risk it all to prove it. She's been working for years to revamp the Wyndrunner and make it ready to breach the solar system and find out just what happened to the Griffin and Revenant. She's determined, and sometimes rash, but she'll do what it takes to get the job done. She's not heartless though, and cares about her crew. KillerQueen Bash Vitality ♥♥♥♥♥ Strength ●●●● Speed ●● Sanity ●●●● Intelligence ●●● Stealth ● Luck ♦The Right Hand Character Name ● 25-40 ● Gender ● Quote Once a brilliant tactician, The Right Hand accidentally walked straight into an enemy trap and found themselves lying in the hospital, sick with grief over the loss of his/her unit. After a lengthy recovery, they've found themselves looking for a way to cope. Outer space sounded like a good idea, until the ghosts of his/her past come knocking, possibly affecting their judgment, and the mission. Haunted. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥♥♥ Strength ●●● Speed ●●● Sanity ●●● Intelligence ●●● Stealth ●● Luck ♦♦The Thrill Seeker Character Name ● 18-25 ● Gender

A young rich individual, he/she bought his way onto the expedition. Being a fairly proficient navigator, they're the one keeping the ship on course to its destination, and of course using their privileges to obtain secure records. They look forward to the adventure, and are using it as nothing more than an adrenaline high of a sort. He/she likes risks and thrills, and this missions seemed like it would be the opportunity of a lifetime. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥♥♥ Strength ●● Speed ●●●● Sanity ●●●● Intelligence ●● Stealth ● Luck ♦♦♦The Fugitive Character Name ● 20-30 ● Gender ● Quote An expedition to space that will take at minimum a year? That sounds like a great opportunity to get away from the law enforcement officials that aren't so happy with him/her. A thief, the Fugitive has a brilliant, albeit greedy, mind. So, here come months of sweet freedom, so long as the rest of the crew doesn't find out. And who knows, maybe they'll find the ship and it'll become a salvage mission. That means money. Adara Wolfe Vitality ♥♥♥ Strength ● Speed ●●● Sanity ●● Intelligence ●●● Stealth ●●●● Luck ♦♦♦♦The Stowaway Character Name ● 12-16 ● Gender

He/she wasn't even supposed to be on the ship. For quite some time, they hid in the cargo bay, living off rations stolen from the boxes. Too young to even be considered for the mission, he/she decided to sneak on board anyway. With a little bit of luck, they'll stay hidden, and even if he/she's caught, it's not like the Commander can turn around. This should be fun. Childish. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥ Strength ● Speed ●●●●● Sanity ●● Intelligence ●● Stealth ●●●● Luck ♦♦♦♦The Mole Character Name ● 25-35 ● Gender

They're being paid by the government to keep tabs on the Commander and his crew. Find out what they're doing, and report it to the Calypso. It was a way for a poor man/woman to make some easy money. The only thing is that, now that the mission is underway, they're not so sure they want to sell the crew out. Somewhat soft-hearted, they know they have to give up the information, but aren't positive it's the right thing to do. They act as a medical officer, there just in case, but really, they just use all that spare time to see what the Commander is planning. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥♥ Strength ●● Speed ●● Sanity ●●● Intelligence ●●● Stealth ●●● Luck ♦♦♦♦The Mechanic Character Name ● 19-25 ● Gender
Quote
Young, misunderstood, and yet quite a wonder with a wrench in hand, The Mechanic is there to keep the ship up and running. It's his/her job to tend to the small details that keep the ship in one piece.. They're pretending to be a graduate of a prominent university, but happen to have been an orphan off the streets, growing up making illegal modifications to hoverbikes for gang members. Still, he/she's one heck of a mechanic, so no one needs to ask questions. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥♥ Strength ●● Speed ●●● Sanity ●●● Intelligence ●●●● Stealth ●●● Luck ♦♦There are 13 NPC's allowed on the Wyndrunner. They will be listed below as they appear.Welcome Aboard The Calypso Registration Code: Juliet-Yankee-8723 Class: Military Cruise Vessel Capacity: 200 Current Personnel and Passengers: 25 Crew Roster The Ambitious Leader Character Name ● 25-30 ● Gender
Quote
This could make or break a career. Stop the rogue ship, and he/she will be granted the highest of honors. A young military officer, he/she has been looking for that opportune moment, and this is it. Cold and ruthless, he/she will stop at nothing to ensure that whatever the government covered up stays that way. It also helps that he/she is the child of one of the most famous military leaders on Earth. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥♥♥ Strength ●● Speed ●●●● Sanity ●●● Intelligence ●●●● Stealth ● Luck ♦♦The First Mate Character Name ● 30-40 ● Gender
Quote
Assigned to the mission, he/she is a bit worried that The Ambitious Leader is willing to go too far to complete their task. They don't believe that killing the Wyndrunner is the best option. Actually, they don't think it should be an option at all. Though he/she won't openly admit to it, he/she is curious as to what it is the government doesn't want found. Always the moral one, The First Mate is beginning to think whatever the government hid should have been told to the people. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥♥♥ Strength ●●●● Speed ●● Sanity ●●● Intelligence ●●● Stealth ●● Luck ♦♦The Scientist Character Name ● 40-50 ● Gender
Quote
Disgraced by the scientific community for a false, and not to mention ridiculous, thesis, The Scientist is setting out in the hopes of regaining their lost pride. After all, what could be better for reclaiming his spot as one of the most brilliant minds of all time than finding something along the way. They're more than happy to aid The Ambitious Leader in stopping the Wyndrunner, but since the only two other ships made it back, anything they discovered is free for him/her to claim as their own. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥ Strength ● Speed ●● Sanity ●●●●● Intelligence ●●●●● Stealth ● Luck ♦♦♦♦The Combat Specialist Character Name ● 25-35 ● Gender
Quote
Proficient in both ship and personal weaponry, The Combat Specialist is there to perform the tasks necessary to stop the Wyndrunner. They're also the single person on the ship that knows what the government is hiding, and their willing to die to make sure that it stays hidden. Their instructions were to trust no one with the secret, and to make sure it dies with them. Adara Wolfe Vitality ♥♥♥♥♥ Strength ●●●●● Speed ●● Sanity ●●● Intelligence ●● Stealth ● Luck ♦♦The Lieutenant Character Name ● 18-24 ● Gender
Quote
The Lieutenant was selected by recommendation of the Combat Specialist. He/she thinks they're just there to be the navigator, since they are a decent pilot. Only the Combat Specialist knows what future purpose they'll serve. Young and Naive, the Lieutenant is more than ready to serve the Ambitious Leader's every command. USERNAME Vitality ♥♥♥♥ Strength ●●● Speed ●●●● Sanity ●●● Intelligence ●● Stealth ●● Luck ♦♦The Assassin Reese Harper ● 21 ● Female
"I'm looking at you through the glass Don't know how much time has passed Oh God it feels like forever But no one ever tells you that forever feels like home Sitting all alone inside your head."
Posing as a specialist in computers, the Assassin is on a mission from the Commander. If something goes wrong, take out the Ambitious Leader. The Commander is fairly sure he can evade the Calypso, but just in case, he's planted an close friend on the ship to ensure things run smoothly. The Assassin only hopes he/she can carry out the order if necessary. After all, they've been serving under the Ambitious Leader for years. They've been sent by the council as a political liaison. Power hungry and greedy, they're pretending to be the good-natured, pure-of-heart ambassador there to help the Ambitious Leader. Of course, that's all just a show. They're really just jealous that someone else is in charge, and is plotting their way to take over the expedition, and thus get the fame and credit for any measures that will be taken to remove the Wyndrunner. For the most part, this RP will play out just as any other. Events, however, will be handled differently. Depending on what is going on in the plot, DM posts may surface, requiring characters involved to make a skill check. To better explain what these are and how they work, I've come up with a little example.
DM Post A brain sucking pile of goo appears before the group! Attempts to communicate with it fail, and it seems to be hostile. There are only so many options available, as the group has already been seen. A. Run: Perform a speed check of 9. >>>Success: Your character gets away. Lucky them. >>>Fail: Your character is hit with a blob of goo as they turn. They fall to the ground. Perform a luck check of 7. >>>>>>Success: Your character manages not to completely biff it and stands up. They manage to escape anyway. >>>>>>Fail: The character falls to the ground and sustains an injury. B. Fight: Perform a strength check of 15. >>>Success: The goo pile withers a little. Your character manages to hold it at bay. >>>Fail: If the character has a vitality of 4+, they sustain a minor injury. If their vitality is 3 or lower, they sustain a moderate injury. This monster requires 4 successful Fight actions to be killed.
Player A goes to the OOC and makes a post that says: "Bob is attempting to fight." He uses the post action to roll. He fails. His character's vitality is a 3. He then goes to make an IC post...
Player A Bob turned to see the monster, dripping with goo. It looked like something out of the mess hall, but bigger and greener. As an instinct, he pulled his knife, but then realized it probably wouldn't do much good. Backing up slightly, he reached for his flare gun. Normally, it was used for signaling for help on land, but he figured he'd give it a shot. He walked up to the monster, firing at point blank range. The flare hit the goo, and burst backward, striking Bob in the shoulder. He fell forward, screaming in pain at his burnt shoulder. The blast had dislocated it, and the skin was badly fried.
Player B posts in the OOC next. "Sue attempts to run" She rolls an 8. Her speed is a two. She succeeds. She posts in the IC...
Player B Sue turned immediately, running and screaming. She ran, ducking around the corner. She stopped there, turning back and peering around the corner to look at her comrades. Perhaps she should go back, but she wasn't going to. If her comrades were smart, they'd run too.
And so on and so forth...
When making a skill check, roll a single 12 sided die in the OOC. Add your character's skill number to the roll. If your number meets or exceeds the number stated, you succeed. Otherwise, you fail. You must include the success/failure result in your IC post in some way. I usually leave them pretty open to interpretation.
As far as injuries go...
Fluff Injuries: Deep Papercuts, Small Bruises, Minor Cuts, etc. Nothing that requires more than a bandaid.
Minor Injuries: Sprained Wrists, Twisted Ankles, Black Eyes, Moderately deep gashes, Bruises, etc... Anything that doesn't require real medical attention.
Moderate Injuries: Broken Wrists, Broken Nose, Moderate Stab Wounds to non-vital areas, Dislocations, etc... Injuries that can be lived without medical attention for a few hours, though they would be fatal. They must not be life threatening.
Major injuries: Stab wounds that are deep, Badly Broken Arms/Legs, etc... Anything that would require medical attention soon or would cause further problems.
Critical injuries: Stab wounds to the stomach, gunshots to the torso, punctured lungs, etc... Anything that could result in death if not treated promptly.
Boosts: Sometimes players can earn boosts. If that is the case, there will be a little note in the DM post looking like this....
DM Boost: Players may perform a luck check of 13 before fighting. >>>Success: Add 3 to your skill check. >>>Fail: No Effect
Sometimes there will be a negative effect, and sometimes there won't be.
Additional bits may come up, and any confusion that arises with them will be sorted out in the OOC. If you ever have a doubt as far as an injury goes, just ask. I don't bite. Please feel free to ask questions. I don't want you to feel confused. ^^
