In reality, real Velociraptors were quite smaller than those featured in "Jurassic Park", which are much closer in size comparison to Deinonychus. Deinonychus' name means "Terrible Claw" and it was discovered by Paleontology revolutionary Dr. John Ostrom in 1964 and named in 1969. Deinonychus weighed 160 pounds (73 kilos) and was 4 meters (13 feet) in length and nearly 1.8 meters (6 feet) high.

The real life Velociraptor name means "swift robber" first discovered and described by Henry Fairfield Osborn in 1924 in what is now the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. Velociraptor lived in the Late Cretaceous around 67 million years ago. Velociraptor was 1.8 meters (6 feet) in length, 1 meter (3 feet) tall and 60 pounds (25 kilos) in weight.

Found on both Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, the Velociraptors or "raptors" as they tend to be called, are Jurassic Park's most intellectually advanced dinosaurs, hunting in packs and communicating with vocalizations allowing for efficient hunting tactics. It is believed that this version of Velociraptor was InGen's second attempt at recreating this genus to be overall safer for visitors to be around. In comparison with the Velociraptor "antirrhopus sornaensis" this species was more like a pack hunting wolf as opposed to the highly-intelligent and efficient pack hunter version seen in Jurassic Park ///.
