i have ALL of the games except homecoming.. the best i could do to help you, would be convincing you to buy the first game an continue with the series. im not saying this to be a smartass. Its not only one of the greatest mystery/horror games (my opinion), but you would then know the story line better than someone trying to explain it to you with very loooong text...
but in a nutshell, the nightmare town and locals represent the main characters personal demons. which they (being you) have to overcome/fight them.. hope that helps ya

Ive never played the games only wacthed a walkthroughs on most of the games and wacthed "Rex and Wevill wacth Silent Hill" video I suggest it. but the plot is so confuseing I understand the basics but it still dosen't make an sense. Guy goes to town. Town has monsters for no reason and when he leaves they dissappear. Fights a god like thing. Takes baby. Leaves. Some years later Daughter goes to town the dad dosen't care for some reason. Reveals shes supposed to be the god or something. Comes home. Dads dead and turns out hes main character in first game. Dose some stuff and I forget the ending. The games are intersting but to confuseing. Is there any explian how the monsters got there. Sure there inner demons but how did they come out. And most importantly why hasen't anyone done a thing about the town. Nobody lives there just nuke it.

I love Silent Hill. I've played 2,4, Home Coming, Shattered Memories, and seen the movie. Didn't like the movie but I really liked the games. Especially Shattered memories.

It's been a while but I think it was all started through a strange ritual done by a cult disguised as an orphanage. The ritual created a small hell like dimension. I could be wrong but I think that's right. Also I think people still live there some how and since usually someone caught in Silent Hill doesn't get back out no one on the outside knows to do anything about it.

Because it would be a hole in the story if they were just there and noboady did a thing about it.
