I was wondering your opinion on distance running vs sprinting. I understand how sprinters get the bulk of the media attention (Bolt). But I think it's harder for a distance runner's name to be noticed. Do people find it boring to watch?

Sprints are fun to watch. long distance isn't. I can't expect someone else to watch me run 5k when i wouldn't do the same. The only exception is when my girls run. (our cc team is supertight so we make sure we motivate each other) Honestly, if the girls team were guys they'd probably be better than me....

Speaking from a sprinter and distance runner's point of view. I enjoy watching sprinter too cause I find it more fascinating cause there is more adrenaline and people get more anxious on how fast they are running. And from a distance runner's point of view, not everyone likes to watch someone run for a long period of time cause you can't really see their progress and they run by you and you probably won't get to see them for a while lol. Preferably I want to run in the Olympics for distance runners. Sprinters are my favorite to watch but not as much as distance runners. They have the stamina and ability to run longer than sprinters. But I'm both a sprinter and distance runner (a mid-distance runner).

i personally think sprints and distance are both good. like sprinting goes by pretty fast, yes and it can grab people's attetion. but... distance is the same way. when it gets to the end of the race it shows whos best. who can defeat the person ahead. my bro did distance and i do sprinting. so i got a lot of watching both... wink

I like watching sprints because they are tense. I prefere long distance because some one will have a big gap over the person and then the other person passes them. But I run cc and long distance. The cross country team for my middle school and the high school teams are tight.

i think it kinda depends on where you're at.
some meets can be very boring and less people are excited but if it's a very competitive track meet or crossccountry meet more people are excited.
like the XC state meet everyone watching was so excited it was really hard to even concentrate...lol

I am a middle distance runner. (200, 300, 400, 500, 800, 4x2, 4x4, 4x8, distance medley, shot, disc) I suppose you could say I do a lot of both, but whatev. I like watching distance because all of our distance runners are really good. Sprints are good because they teach me how to kick and hold my form at the end of a race. And I watch shot and disc to learn more form.
I like all of track~
