Cassie was not normally a drinker of name brand coffee, she preferred her no name instant stuff to expensive brands every time. However, since she was in the area anyways the young woman had figured it wouldn't hurt to stop by a Starbucks and try one of their fancy drinks. Her parents had wired her some money to help offset the sudden expense of the twins and Cassie didn't feel too bad about spending just a little of it on herself. No one would care for Madison and Mason if she died of stress.

Hence why she was now out on the patio of the coffee shop sipping at some drink with a name she could barely pronounce that tasted vaguely of caramel and mint chocolate. The twins were beside her in their stroller, sucking on animal crackers. It was just a short little break before they headed home after picking up another bag of diapers and more baby food. It continued to astound Cassie the frequency at which the twins ate and how they seemed to not get fat from doing so.

In between shoving little lions into his mouth Mason reached up and tried to pull the elastic out of his long silvery hair. He liked that it touched his face and neck; he did not like short little ponytail it was pulled back into. Unfortunately his chubby baby fingers could not help him free his hair and his mother seemed to have no intention of giving in and taking the elastic out. Madison on the other hand was waving at every passerby she saw. The pink skinned girl looking deceptively male in a plain white t-shirt and jean overalls.

There was something different about a Starbucks in New York and a Starbucks back home in Seattle. Maybe it's because the air in Seattle was permantly permeated with a espresso infusion? Either way, it didn't actually matter as what Kaithala was really craving was a double shot espresso light, something her assistant manager Sanna made rather well. Still, she couldn't transport her bookshop across the United States so cornerside NYC Starbucks would have to do.

Vitaliy was back in disguise mode. After the fiasco at the diner, Kai was a little more weary of people. Not so much because she was afraid of them seeing her child, more because she didn't want to get arrested for knocking some stupid person out. So he was in his jeans and socks, a black shirt, and a fuzzy cap pulled over his head with holes for his ears cut out. As long as he didn't move them very often, it made a fair pass at just looking like one of those fleece hats that were made with ears. The hank of rope was back around his mid section and running underneath his tail. A fact that Vitaliy was not happy with.

Taking her go-cup of not-as-wonderful-as-Seattle coffee, Kai stopped just outside the door of the building coffee in one hand and Vitaliy nestled in the other arm... this was a recipe for disaster. Serious disaster. Re-thinking her plan, she nabbed one of the tables sitting outside on the sidewalk. Setting Vitaliy down on the table, Kai spied another woman with a stroller, and a curiously skin colored child. Frowning, Kai took the seat where she'd have the best angle to watch them. Maybe the sun was playing tricks on her.

Meanwhile Vitaliy was entertaining himself by chewing on his own tail. "Vee, don't do that, you're going to be real sorry when you actually get to the muscle." Kai chided as her boy continued to gnaw at his own appendage.

"Eeeeam" Madison flung an animal cracker at the boy up on the table.. He was so hungry he was eating himself! Not that the boyish looking little girl had a hope in hell of actually getting the sugary snack anywhere near her target. She had neither the aim nor the strength to throw the shaped dough where it needed to go. Instead it merely looked like she was throwing a fit and tossing food about; a typical baby thing to do since she was smiling at the time. " Screeeeeeam." She insisted and tossed another animal cracker from the small set in her lap.

Cassie choked on her coffee the hot liquid burning as it trailed down her throat. Burned and out of breath she cursed "What the ********?" A small part of her brain tried to point out she'd sworn in front of small impressionable children but the part that registered choking and pain told it to ******** off. Her hazel eyes narrowed as she peered into the stroller at Madison. "What's wrong with you?" She'd never seen her daughter act like this before. Sure Maddy had shouted and whimpered when need be but she'd never thrown things at anyone.

Her eyes flicked over to the ivory horned, how the hell was she supposed to hide those, girl's target. He was.. differentish looking, was that was this was about? She didn't like how he looked?

Mason meanwhile looked at a camel shaped animal cracker, looked at the boy Madison was yelling at and then shoved the sand coloured cookie in his mouth. Sharing was clearly not an option right now for the silvery haired boy. He wanted his animal crackers and he was annoyed about his hair and he only had camels left and he couldn't possibly give camels away.

Kai gave a startled bobble as one of the children in the stroller began tossing what looked like animal crackers onto the sidewalk. Well, it wasn't really that strange was it? Children did odd things all the time right? Curse her lack of child rearing knowledge. And was that? Could those be? No they couldn't, that would be insanity.

Casually, except not, scooting her chair, she tried to get a better view at the child. Yes, yes those were horns, and a rather interesting colored skin tone as well. Kai had little doubt that she was looking at yet another child from Rethe Phonne. Probably another two, dear god this was just the week for it. Unsure about wanting to strike up conversation with the apparent mother, Kai sipped her coffee frowning at her child.

Vitaliy on the other hand was still nigh cheerfully chewing on his own tail, that is until he finally bit hard enough to pinch his own muscle. Giving a quick shrill bark, he promptly let go. Well that was NOT fun. Twitching his tail a bit to try and shake off the pain he set his roving yellow eyes wandering in the twins' direction. That one was throwing something at him, taking it as a sign of threat, he hunched down on all fours and let out a low growl.

"Hey no, easy kid." Kai patted his back almost nonchalantly, it was getting to be less and less stressful and more and more normal to watch him behave like this. "What'd we say about growling at strangers? We don't do it. We keep our strange and neurotic feelings to ourselves until we can properly vent them when we're home." Her sterling parenting skills were obviously shining through. Still, it would be okay to introduce herself, and really she probably should try and get to know some of the other parents... especially if they were going to have to unite against the media at any time.

Smiling, Kai gave a friendly wave to the mother. "Hi, cute kids." See friendly, not completely socially awkward... well... maybe it was. Ugh, she wasn't trained to deal with these kinds of situations. If something like this occurred at the store, she'd just send Sanna to deal with it. "Gift from an orb?" She asked friendly like but rather bluntly.

Cassie nodded and gave the other woman a wry smile, it figured Madison would choose one of her own kind to assault with a snack. Though why her daughter had done so she still didn't know. At the moment though she was a bit more concerned about the boy growling up on the table nearby, he looked dangerous even for one so young. The fact that his mother was used to such well wild behaviour did not exactly reassure her even with some distance between them. " Is your boy" It looked like a boy anyways, " Going to be okay?" Madison had stopped throwing animal crackers so there was no need for further aggression on either side.

Madison's eyes opened wide and the girl giggled, it was almost like that high pitched creepy sound little girl's gave in horror movies before they murdered you. Not that Madison wanted to hurt anyone at all, in fact she was still smiling and now clapping, not at all afraid by this display from the tailed boy on the table. He was making noise kind of like what Caspien did, that must mean he was happy. "Yea" the girl shouted, and look his mother was petting him like she pet Caspien, they were practically the same. She had seen aggression before in Dae but this was not the same, there was no scary magic here.

" Maddy hush," Cassie urged. When the girl laughed it made her shiver, thought it was the same with Mason. Either way Madison needed to calm herself if they were going to get the more animalistic boy to be calm.

In contrast to his twin Mason’s grey eyes were narrowed and his tiny crumb covered fists were clenched tight. Said fists resting on his legs just where the short he was wearing cut off. It was obvious the child was angry although his wasn’t currently being vocal about it. It was all in the way he carried himself, how one black lip was curled in a snarl and his head wings lay pinned back against his head.

Kai gave the woman a friendly smile. Oh dear, this wasn't exactly the best of starts probably. There was obviously a feel of apprhension in the air and really she couldn't blame her. The first few weeks with Vitaliy had been a study of the state of constant panic. "Oh he's fine." Kai gave a quick and hopefully reassuring pat to Vitaliy's back. "Vee here just has to..."pausing for the right word... "adjust to meeting new people, especially younger kids. He's not a bad kid though." Well as long as she was there for him to run to when he was scared.

Okay, she was learning to be a tolerant woman... but that little girl's laugh was just creepy as hell, but at least she looked happy. Masking her shiver as best she could she took a look at the other child in the stroller. They were twins? Huh... she hadn't even been aware that the orbs could produce twins. Taking a moment to thank her lucky stars that she hadn't been saddled with two kidlettes, she frowned. The other kid was not looking so happy about this meeting, actually it kind of reminded her of Vitaliy's response to having to be stuck in room with Amy. "Vitaliy, here's some new people for you to meet, isn't that nice?" Practicing the tried and true formula of stroking Vee's neck, the boy calmed slightly. "So you have twins, how's that treating you?"

Quieting his growls, Vitaliy stayed hunched in his position though. He didn't like the odds... there were two of them and the blue one there vibrated the way his mom did when the reporter had walked in. No matter her reassurances, he knew, KNEW, that at least one of them was looking for a fight. "Play nice." she whispered in his ear and had him whimpering. But what if that other one started throwing projectiles like the clapping girl? And speaking of which, what was she so happy about? Ominous.

" Twins are difficult," Cassie admitted. She reached out to push the stroller back and forth a bit soothingly; she too had noticed the less than serene expression on Mason's face. " Madison and Mason seem to need a lot more time than exists in the day." That might be a twin thing or a general kid thing. Either way Cassie was sure that if it weren't for all the willing babysitters and helpers she had in her fellow circus workers she'd have broken down by now and be in a mental hospital. There was just too much to do, too many needs to attend to and then her job and keeping the trailer clean.

With a soft sigh the woman turned the stroller so she could lift each twin out and place them on her table opposite of where her drink was. She didn't want it burning them or either of them ingesting caffeine. " Do you live around here?" she asked curiously. If so New York seemed to be spawning these kids at an alarming rate. Technically Madison and Mason were born in Yew York even if they'd never actually have a home state.

Mason's fists were unclenched now but it was mostly becuase the boy had returned his focus to getting the evil elastic out of his hair. As long as the fuzzy eared boy behaved himself Mason was content to let this angering behavior pass much like with the magic spark boy the other day.

Madison had taken to waving silently at the Caspien like boy and his mother. She liked being free of the stroller and would hush if it meant she could stretch and wiggle on the table. Still, she did want the attention of these interesting people.

"Me? No, I'm from Seattle, I'm just visiting... a friend?" It was kind of weird to explain why she happened to be in the city. "Sort of, doesn't matter, but no, I'm a firm west coast native. Where are you from?" Kai smiled and sipped her coffee as she watched the mother lift out her twins. Well they were an interesting duo! And look at those head wings. It reminded her of the boy who had the wings on his ankles. Maybe that was normal for the children who didn't come from animals? "Oh, sorry, by the way, I'm Kaithala, pleased to meet you." She smiled and reached out a hand. "And this is my son Vitaliy."

Leaning back, she drew on her very small knowledge of baby small talk. God she sucked at this, hardcore. "So, ever feel like you should've taken the blue pill?" Fail. Open mouth, insert foot, stick a fork in her she was done. Laughing at her own stupidity she tried to correct herself. "I just mean have you run into many situations where you get some negative responses? Ugh, I mean, for example, I had a pretty gross run in with some media with Vee here." Why did babies make her language skills dry up like crusty bread?

Meanwhile, Vitaliy was eying that red one wearily. She kept moving her hand at him the way the deer one had before, and the way his mom had made him wave at Amy. And that blue one was doing something to his hair... maybe he was reaching for a projectile? After a quick nudge and the look from his mom though he shifted his eyes back and forth on the girl one and waved a little clawed hand.

Cassie laughed, this woman was quite the babbler but it wasn't all that bad. At least she wasn't snotty like that prissy teen from the park, why Rethe thought that one was good potential guardian she'd never know. " I"m Cassie." She introduced herself, having mentioned the twins names moments before she left them out. " I'm originally from Canada but I've been living in the states for years. I work for a large traveling circus so for most of the year I'm a bit of everywhere." Though at this rate she was thinking about taking the winter season off and settling for a bit. Letting the twins have some stability during this sensitive period in their life.

The dark haired woman shook her head after leaning back from the handshake herself. " No media for me and aside from the odd glance no real major reactions, but I haven;t had them all that long either." Cassie admitted. " It seems to be old people who give me the weirdest looks." Perhaps the elderly were too old to accept such things? " It's not been easy for sure but I'm glad I have them." Cassie grinned. "A couple months from now," She shrugged. She'd still love them of course but chances were she'd have had much more time to encounter intolerance and let the reality of the fact that this was forever and not just a little while sink in.

Aha the tailed boy had waved back, this was good. Madison couldn't help but giggle again in her glee. They were talking without words, expressing themselves with just gestures. She flicked her head wings backs and forward once, would he move his ears?

" Yea" Mason shouted with pleasure as he slipped the elastic off his hair and freed it. The boy shook his head and long silvery locks settled themselves about his face and back once again. Success !

"A traveling circus?" Wow that was cool, how come everyone had neater jobs than her? Not that she didn't love the bookstore, lord knows that she did, but it certainly wasn't as exciting or as exotic as working in a circus. "How is that? Especially with kids? Does it get extra tiring having to move all their stuff along with you?" Of course she'd said that she hadn't had the twins long, maybe it was really just a very recent development?

Brushing back a stray strand of hair, Kai leaned back in her chair. "Listen if someone named Rodney Macaline ever approaches you about your kids, do yourself a favor and turn around and walk away. He's a greaseball putz of a reporter who is trying to ride sound orb children story to fame and he's not afraid of exploiting children to do it." Okay well maybe not all of that was true, but it was certainly how Kai felt on the matter. "He's the one I've had trouble with recently."

What was she doing? The red one was now moving her head wings and Vitality had no idea what that meant, she made a happy noise so he didn't think it was a threat, but maybe it was a clever ruse to make him lower his guard. Ears twitching by sheer accident he yipped a bit to try and warn her off being a threat, but really the sound he made could be taken several different ways. And then the blue one let his hair loose, was that what he was mad about? Vitaliy didn't know as Kai had never done anything special to his hair except put the detestable headband on it.

Cassie frowned and nodded " I'll keep an ear out for him and try and avoid if at all possible." It would be harder on the city streets where it wasn't as easy for her to maneuver and hide. On the lot though she'd be fine, cliche as it was circus folk stuck tight together and not a one of her co-workers would hand her or the twins over to the man. The reporter would likely be escorted off the lot less than gently.

" I haven't had to move with the twins yet." Cassie would try to move back to more pleasant conversation if possible. " But it's not easy or fun having to hand them over to someone else when I have to perform and I'm not sure how well they're going to take to moving." It was something that only time could tell her. " I'm kinda glad they don't have that much stuff yet" she admitted. What was necessary for them just as babies barely fit in her trailer as it was. Adding more stuff might be impossible, well unless she could toss most of what she had now. Just the thought made her down another mouthful of her coffee.

Ooh! now he was shouting and wiggling his ears back. Madison could not have been happier if she'd tried, this was almost as good as playing with Caspien had been. It might even be better if only she could touch him, sadly he was far away on another table and crawling to him would mean falling. The overall wearing little girl contented herself with continuing to make various hand and head wing motions. They could talk like this for now.

Mason's eyes narrowed at the yip and suddenly he was on all fours and staring intensely at the yellow eyes boy. No aggression yet but he was wary. "Never" he murmured softly to himself.

"I'm pretty sure he said he works for the New York Post, or some other local newspaper, so it's just around here that I'd be worried. Though I'll bet after a time every reporter around the corner is going to be trying to get a scent on these stories." Kai huffed out a breath with a disgusted look, "I know it's their job to report and all but it makes me sick knowing that my kid's just a tool to them." Scooping her drink off the table, she took a long sip. "Sorry, unpleasant-ness still there about it. Moving on."

"I wish you the best of luck with the moving, I really do." Kai smiled and saluted the girl with her cup. If either of her kids was half as much trouble as Vitaliy was while traveling, she certainly had her work cut out for her. Though Kai was beginning to get the feeling that she hadn't really met anyone with quite the same predicament as herself. No one else was base enough to break their orbs... Brushing the thought out of the air, she returned her attention to Cassie. "Do any of the other performers had kids around the same age? I imagine it'd be hard to have kids on the road like that but wouldn't it be nice for your kids to have some playmates." Look at her, talking like she actually knew what it was she was swaying. Why was talking about children so difficult for her?

Vitaliy was not in the mood for that blue one. And if he could get down from the table crawl all the way to the other side, get up the stroller and into his face he would've shown him just how not in the mood he was. For now he merely propped up on all fours as well, snarled and bared his teeth, tail twitching furiously. And he didn't like the way that red one was trying to be nice, she must've been the bait! Trying to make him think they weren't threats when they really were!

"Vitaliy," his head snapped back to look at his Alpha, surely she would put a stop to this. "Don't make angry noises, try and be a well behaved nice boy for once." What!? She was always siding with the enemy. Letting out a quiet whine he stared at her, and by stare I mean his eye darted around her face without focus. "Vee, you listen to me." With another pitiful whine, he plopped down on his butt and let his tail and ears droop sadly.

Cassie wasn't bothered by what the other woman was saying about the reporter but she was willing to let the subject drop before either of them got worked up about it. No need to potentially upset any of the kids. Madison at least responded to upset tones of voice very badly and she seemed good at reading peoples emotions for a little kid. As it was Kaithala's son seemed seriously on a hair trigger although admittedly it was initially Madison's fault. Cassie still wondered why the normally friendly pink skinned girl had been chucking food at him.

The brunette nodded and grinned though in response to one of the other guardian's questions." Several of my co-workers have children that travel with us and a couple are just a bit older than the twins."It would allow Maddy and Mason to socialize while on the road a lot. "They won't quite have play dates so much as a lot of friends with whoever's offering to babysit that day." She'd never looked into it beforehand but Cassie had discovered that the circus had a rather elaborate sort of child care system worked out amongst it's parents. It truly was a whole village raising these kids.

Maddy pouted and went still, she knew what that kind of look and sound meant. Fuzzy ears was unhappy and that made her unhappy as well. She had been trying so hard too, with feeding him and waving and being very nice. Maybe, silver eyes glanced in her brother's direction " Nay." She frowned at him, she wasn't supposed to make people unhappy, that was bad.

Startled and somewhat distressed by this reaction from his sister Mason gave a small baby sigh and closed his eyes simply blocking the world out.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 02, 2009 10:16 pm

Okay that was entirely unfair then. This girl had a whole network of people to help her with her kids, and not just other people, other people who also had kids. Immediately Kai felt like she needed to find one of these support groups for herself. If only there was a way to make Vitaliy feel safe with other people, than she'd be able to get a baby sitter or a day care, or any manner of other useful normal parent tools. And if she could do that, maybe she'd get to go out on dates again. Ah sex, how she missed you.

"Well that's a nice set-up you have then." Kai punctuated her words with an assenting nod. Digging deep for anything she could remember Searenity saying to her, she repeated what she thought she'd heard, "Kids at that young of an age need a good community of friends. It leads to a really good social development." More than likely Cassie already knew all of that, but as was her usual, children and talk there of made her flounder.

Also, after saying such 'sagely' words it reminded her that she needed to get Vitaliy some friends so he could be come socially adjusted as well. Though given the boy's personality there was pretty much a popsicle's chance in hell that that would ever happen. Still, he'd yet to actually physically hurt another child, so that was... not a step in the wrong direction, wasn't exactly a step forward either.

They were tricksy, yes they were. Look, the blue one was playing dead to make him think that it'd be okay. He had their attack plan alright, but he couldn't do anything about it, since his alpha was making nice with their alpha. Ears and tail twitching he kept his eyes darting between the two other children waiting for them to strike. Tilting his head back slightly he let out a lonely howl.

"Hopefully you're right." Cassie gave a small grin. Really though she couldn't be sure that it would all work out. The twins would never have cause to be lonely but they'd also be raised around children with very unique outlooks on life. It was so hard to guess what the future would hold. Still Cassie was determined to be as optimistic about it all as possible, really no parent wanted to think they were potentially setting their child up to be scarred or screwed up for life. the last thing the hazel eyed woman wanted was for either twin to need therapy in the future because of choices she made for them now. The very thought made her down another mouthful of soothing caffeine.

"I'm more worried about the rest of the world though," she shrugged." Eventually they'll grow up and have to go to college, get jobs that sort of things" Although that seemed pretty far off considering they couldn't even walk under their own power yet. " How many of them will there be by then, what will public opinion be?" Gods but she was too young to have to worry so far ahead, how did parents not go crazy?

Cassie knew she probably shouldn't be worrying the other woman with her concerns, that she probably had enough on her plate but what else could she do. The clown woman be out of town in a few weeks and left with only the internet as a way to communicate, it eased her mind a bit to vent with a sympathetic person now.

Both twins looked up and stared at the fuzzy eared boy, what did he want? Mason didn't like the way the other wouldn't settle, it felt wrong in some way he couldn't quite express. Using his long hair as a curtain the boy with his feather headwings tried to hide his face from the one that was starting to unnerve him. He wouldn't show that he was afriad. Madison whimpered and tears formed in the little girls eyes, he sounded so sad and she couldn't do anything and it was breaking her little heart.

Cassie shivered at the howl and her gaze slid from the boy's mother to him. " Are you sure he's okay?" She didn't even know what he could be reacting to at this point.
