This dog showed up on our back porch yesterday, and my father managed to chase it off. I never saw it, just heard the commotion it was causing with my parents. I shrugged it off...
This morning the poor thing was back, just laying against the door. I tried to shoo him off as well, but he'd just shrink down and start shaking...like I was going to beat the poor guy.
I would love to keep him, especially with him being in bad condition (he's bony, and seems to be partially blind)...and I'd rather not seek out his owner if he was being starved and beaten.
The only problem is, Khan (yeah, I named him because he reminds me of him) would be too expensive to keep seeing as my family has so many pets already. He'd also need a vet visit, and likely a flea bath.
The nearest no-kill shelter is full and won't take him. I don't want him taken to another shelter to just be put down later, either...
But I'm open to suggestions. Please help me out in this... sad

Aw. I love animals.
Have you tried asking people you know if they would like a dog?
Make sure he's friendly and maybe feed him leftovers from your fridge to help him to come around.

Well, for now, theres no need to keep him as such, just feed him little bits and pieces and left overs from meals, and give him some water too. Gradually, you could save up to take him to the vet and get him checked out, and if its cold or rainy, especially at night, lead him into the garage and let him sleep there, provided you have one.
Mabey in time you can take him in. If not, you can search for friends who want a dog, or put out an add. Don't mislead people, say that you have an old dog who may be blind and needs a good home. Someone with a big heart will come forward.

Thanks for all the help.
My sister and I are pooling together some money for a checkup from the vet. After that, we'll officially decide on what we're doing with him. For now, he's got a comfy home and food and water. He's still very timid and running into things, but I'm hoping he comes around. I'm going to start asking family first if they'd like a dog, then people I know...

As an update, we're keeping Khan. It's been a while... At his checkup, he had more fleas than the vet had ever seen on anything (literally, you just looked at the poor guy and saw them crawling all over...) *shudder*. He was underweight, and his gums were a very bad color according to the vet. He was so malnourished that she didn't dare give him all his shots...
But now, a while later, he's gained a lot of weight and he's staying in our backyard. For weeks he wouldn't speak, but now he's actually barking at the neighbors cows (he is a cow dog after all). As soon as I get a good pic, I'll post it here. He's a sweetheart.
