☭ Appeal to Authority ☭: Rules and Guidelines


☭ Appeal to Authority ☭ is intended for the enjoyment of members of NCS. Before posting in the thread, it is advisable to read the rules and guidelines below. As creator, I reserve the right to alter or add to the rules within this thread at any time. Questions, commentary, or suggestions relevant ☭ Appeal to Authority ☭ should be posted in the Community subforum, or PMed to Demon Kagerou.


How To Participate

  • Find another user on Gaia Online who has cited the work of a known figure of political science, philosophy, science, or similar intellectual of historical merit.
  • Re-quote the cited work here.
  • You will debate the citation as if this cited figure were a user on the forum.
    • You may disagree, in which case you are expected to support your opinion with a reasonable standard of logic and factual information.
    • If you agree with the cited figure, you should express your own interpretation of the citation and why you agree.

  • If you have something SHORT to say to or about another user, you MUST add it to the bottom of your post and color the text white.
  • If you disagree or wish to expand on another user's interpretation of a citation within this thread, you must quote the citation itself again, and approach it as you would in the first three points.


What NOT To Do

  • Do not quote from another user directly.
  • Do not mention the name of a user anywhere on your post.
  • Do not use the white text to troll, harass or make intentionally inflammatory remarks toward another user.
  • Do not make posts consisting entirely of white text. Take it to the Community subforum.


Additional Notes And Details

  • All cited work should originate from a post on Gaia Online. It does not necessarily need to come from NCS, or even be created by a member of NCS.
  • If you prefer a different translation or version of the citation than the one provided, please link to the version you prefer or name the book/ magazine and publisher of your source.
  • You may cite another figure while debating a cited figure. Please, make it clear that this is what you are doing.
  • It's a lot of rules, and I expect you all to follow them, but remember that this is for fun. Don't take it too srsly.
